Ditto! Sad [:(] sorry to hear that camo- I know it was a PITA to attach in the first place, but don't worry, you wound up making it look great the first time- maybe there was a drought and a the palms a little skimpish- 6 leaves is better than 2 or 3, it'll look fine. And I agree with model- maybe now you can find a way to really get them stuck in. I think I read somewhere modeling is more about how you deal with and fix mistakes as opposed to how perfectly you can put together a build. Or maybe I’m mixing cheesy self-help quotes, I don’t know.

Well ... sh*t happens ... Sorry to say it, but it does ...

Look at it this way. Maybe this is the chance to figure out a way to better secure the leaves!?! Is there a way to drill a small hole into the leaves where they attach? That way you could put a pin through them and secure the pin to the trunk ... or whatever the hell they're attached to.

BLUF .... don't get pissed. That's how things get tossed across the room and then you end up w/ a Huey's tail boom stuck in your wall ....

...not speaking from personal experiences or anything. Evil [}:)] Just would hate to see a 4' tall building sticking out of your wall ...

.... so maybe play by grown-ups has it's place too.

I thik they call that ... paint-ball. I don't know ... ask Psst! HAHAHAHA!!!!

I think that most here will agree that my "playing" comment was just in fun. I, personally, strive for perfection in all my builds, as to me ... I'm portraying something in real life. I know that sometimes my detail-ness drives Camo nuts! (and that might just be another reason why I do it too. hehe)

Camo, on your truck ... dude its your build. I have faith that you'll do it "right". I think that you won't let it go any other way ... besides you haven't spend 9 months so far just to give it a crappy finish. ... Hey .... 9 months ..... its like having another kid!!!!

HAHAHA!!!!

no problem indy. there are so many more things in this world to worry about than something so miniscule as your words "affecting me", so no big deal. i joke at just about everything i can just because its my way of not letting the little annoyances of life bring me down. so you will see i put alot of different smiley faces after my sentences (usually) to avoid people misunderstanding my words. doesnt always work out and if ya have an ax to grind your going to do it regardless. but if you can limit it that's all im trying to do!

as far as my dio, by all means let me know what ya think and what i can do to improve it. i take all critiques as best i can. i mean if its something like a chin strap or something, cant promise i will necessarily put one on. not because i dont want to listen to what you have to say (probably more over that its not likely its going to a show for judgement anyway). besides things like that are little and can be done at anytime so, i dont see it as "pressing" in the grand scheme of things! also, since this is my "first" dio, i dont care too much about it in terms of there was alot i would've liked to have done with this but the hind sight always bites ya after the fact! anyway...let's see what else is on t.v. Big Smile [:D]

Ok CJ, good awnsers... all of them.. Thanx. As a matter of fact-your words came across before as kind-of upset(to my perception), but, you're right. I need to get to know you, fair enough. As for my words being (less-than-clear) in my critique, yeah, I admit I wrote that in a cloudy fashion on purpose,as I didn't want the convo going (all wongy)as the Brits say--and it did anyhow!! My bad <<Pirate [oX)]   As for art being subjective, it really isn't. Art is anything that fits that description I gave, and nothing that doesn't, that's why it is a really good one. What IS subjective is the quality of any artpiece, it's percieved value, beauty, and the degree to which the artist HAS managed to communitcate what he/she was attempting to.

In our case, Modelchasm, if this all amounts to "playing with toys"(and I dont' agree)maybe what some modelers do, others shoot for something alot more interesting, importaint, realistic, and captivating to a wider audience than other modelers. I for one tend to reject perfect, shiny, new looking, stand-alone models as toy-like, and prefer dioramas that are so well thought out they appear as 3-D artworks. That said, musicians often call thier "work" playing, as in "playing a song", or " playing a gig" so maybe play by grown-ups has it's place too.

yeah, the doors are painted tan. i know your just saying, but i dont want to touch it until im done with the figures. (but i know u know that). your right too, it wouldnt be much to repaint the hood. although, im not sure if any of it will make a difference since its going to be "dirty"! that said, i will make it look descent. anyway, yesturday and today are lazy days...not sure im gonna do anything with this right now. need a little more motivation. AHHHHH..... tossin' around hate like babies and puppies!!!! Laugh [(-D]

... I think the second cup of coffee was a little much this morning...

But seriously .... to get back to your build. I was thinking about your HMWWV and was trying to visualize how you were going to weather it. I don't know. Something about it just doesn't sit right w/ me. I know that we talked about (or maybe it was in another HMMWV thread) the colors you saw on trucks during early OIF. IMO I think that your tri-color is a little much for the time frame. However, I think that it's easily fixed especially at this stage. I know that the doors weren't there on the last post, but I'd paint them tan (if you weren't doing that already). Then, I'd do the hood and the truck lid in OD. Everything else, the base pieces of the truck, should be fine in the NATO colors. I'd also paint the wheel hubs tan, w/ maybe one being black.

Again ..... all just IMO. HTHs.

indy, ya have to get to know me to know that none of what i said was "ill tempered" towards ANTHING you said buddy. im not one of those guys, and i dont take offense to critiques of my work. its just that some of your "wording" was hard to follow but i think modelchasm straightened it out for me. he and you, are right. i know the figures and the humvee have to be "weathered" and "blended" better. my figures also need (some) chin straps, all need slings. these are details that i will add to my figures. but right now those details are not a concern to me as of yet. i have bigger fish to fry with this thing. i more than appreciate you pointing that stuff out to me. the overall update shots were just so people could see the whole thing again but by no means is it finished...although im getting alot closer. trust me, i DO look at all my work objectively...lol, ask scott and everyone else. i am my own worst critic and never feel like its ever "good" enough.

do i agree with you that this is an art...art is subjective, we use the right side of our brain for anything art related, so yeah, i do think this is an art form. however, i'm no artist...and would never claim to be. but that's just me.

Your Buddy kinda said it there ^^^^^       Look CJ, sorry I didn't get back to you until now, away all day at work and all.  I don't go posting replies to be a buzzkill especially to someone I like doing work that I like. You have a nice little following here and these guys love your figure painting so if you just don't want to hear it fine, sorry man. On the other hand, if I said your photos suck using nicer words, while suggesting an easy way to get better ones, well, you shouldn't be bothered as you already said pretty much the same thing. I don't think anyones model figures look too good with a direct flash, but in the case of your pic's, the U.S. personel look bright & shiny-- like action figures. It's a huge contrast with the very-real-looking backdrop. Honestly the Arabs look alot better to me, better integrated. Now i'm not taking the time to tell you this because I want to burst your bubble, I actually think you are on your way to being a world-class modeler, but not there yet(who is?) The thing is, if an artist is 70 o/o toward an ideal with a work and people come in and say--"Oh man thats awsome/amazing,ect, sometimes that artist will neglect to go the other 30 o/o having already gotten the kind of reaction he'd been after from a few onlookers, but never having met his potentional. This is a common artistic tragedy of sorts. Now, would you agree with me that what we are involved in with diorama building is an artform? I don't think there's any doubt about it. And my friend,,,,,,,,,,I know what art is,,,,,,,which is no small accomplishment. Something I have enjoyed doing over the years is going to art opennings and meeting the artist(all kinds, all mediums)If I get the chance, I like to ask the artist a really common question in such circles, and usually get pretty mundane, milky, incomplete awnsers. The simple question :"What is Art?" Usual awnsers include "Art is in the eye of the beholder" or" art is anything"or "art is the beauty of life",blah, blah, blah,"ect, ect well I will tell what it is.......Art is an expression, shared through a medium. That's it. always. Any kind of expression, any kind of medium. And, for the artist,   Art is always a study in contrast and consistancy.  (You have to have both) this is the secret to creatiing a good, effective work-a good balance of both.

So what I was seeing was something unfinished, and you have to take with a grain of salt all the comments you get(good & bad) and do as you feel your work needs--while trying to look at your oun work objectively, which is really difficult to do, because as you said-this is your baby, you've been developing it for nine months! I just saw these figures that were very thoughtfully painted, but not quite finished(to me)and showed up too well against the backdrop(much too much contrast) trust me I wouldn't take this kind of time for someone I didn't like. doing work I don't like. I just think that you need to be encouraged to reach your potentional, not encouraged to feel you've reached it.   until next....................Indy

We are always our own worst critics ... the only thing that I can say is to do the best you can to sit back and LISTEN to what the audience has to say ... and then take it for truth.

Local IPMS huh!?! Does this mean that there's show in the future for our dear Camo!?! HAHA! As I'm sure that you saw there, as you would at a show ... models of all kinds and levels are there. Some great. Some ..... well, nice. But like YOU always say ... I'm sure that THEY are happy w/ it.

As far as BLUF .... Bottom Line Up Front ....

your right scott...i plan on dirtying things up and making them "match" their surroundings. ummmm, as far as what to do with it, i dont know, hadnt thought any more about it other than my local shelf!! Laugh [(-D]. i do appreciate your praise on it scott, as well as everyone else's, but i know i could've done things "better" and maybe because of that, i can incorporate those "ideas" into the "next" one! i dont know. Confused [%-)] Wink [;)]

well, i went to my first ipms (local chapter) club meeting last night. kinda interesting. only a couple of guys with models...though not everyone was there. one guy had a ww2 dio, that while good, wasnt really. ya know what i mean? one guy is scratch building a 1:192 p.t. boat for some museum...that, looks amazing. they meet once a month and seem like nice people. im going to bring some of my stuff next month. we'll see what happens.

btw, what is this "BLUF...very impressive"??? Big Smile [:D]

If I'm reading it right, I think it might just be that they are in-progress shots. I too think that it looks a little funny, but its only b/c your HMMWV looks right off the showroom floor, and all your guys have "starched" DCUs. Besides the building ... its all very clean.

BUT .... I'm not worried though ... you're a master in my book and I know that you'll do this one right.

Here's something that you might not have thought about yet ....

What are going to do w/ it when its done? Hummmmmm!?! Sure, its an AWESOME dio and I would love to wake up every morning, stretch, and drink my coffee while watching the US duke it out yet again .... but don't you think that it should be shared? Is there a museum around, or maybe an ROTC department that has a display case that might like to display it for a year?

Anyway, just a thought, but the question still stands....

BLUF ... very impressive.
