Just catching up on this thread and saw mention of covering the inside wing filet area.  I trimmed up the wing mounting tabs a bit and used some available thin plastic and detailed it with stringers.  Shot of my scratch built bomb bay area with lifte raft compartment up top for a visible side I planned to scallop paint job revealing the inside detail areas but covering less detailed areas.  One of my many unfinished projects waiting on retirement!

Your detailing is looking great!   Here is a shot of my detail for the top of the radio room gun mount for an  "F".  Interior structure would be the same for late "F's" and "G's".

That looks great Melgyver.  The "G" I'm modeling does not have that gun.  I wish it did now!

Started the right fuselage today.  The nose is almost complete, radio and waist continue, but again, I ran out of styrene.  I bought the last 2 packages from my LHB.  I just ordered 8 packages from Tower Hobbies.  Should be here by Tuesday.  (I hope).....

Thanks guys.

I tried out a new air brush yesterday with some zinc chromate.  I'm not sure if these areas should be this color or not, so it's back too the books.  I'm thinking the Life Raft Storage and inside the vertical fin are OK, but the stringers might be bare aluminum.......

Wonderful work Bow DownToast! I like how you did the cutouts , very natural looking , and leaves intact the the clean lines of the aircraft, exellentYes.

Wish I had done that with my B-24J Witchcraft. I'm tempted to add the Revell 1/48 B-24D to my stash and detail up the interior as I did with Witchcraft. I would have to use your idea of removing certain panels to reveal the interior.

As far as the color of mentioned areas , aluminum stringers would be a great contrast. Most of what I've read on the subject of the various interior greens and aluminum of the day , a good study of references and an educated choice( guess)  could very well be correct. If it looks right?2 cents

Looking forward to seeing more of this incredible buildEats.

Nice work.  What size stringers did you use?  Now I'm tempted to do the same thing on my next 17

Wow, rob, I'm getting caught up with your latest work and it's outstanding!  I like your cutout method, too, it almost looks like panels removed for some kind of maintenance.

What did you use for the decking?  Is that balsa or basswood sheet?  That's a great idea, and it looks like plywood in that scale.

Yes, outstanding job!

Best regards,

Brad

The Right fuselage is almost done.  I started adding the waist gun window last night.  I'll finish that and add the radio room window tonight.

Man, you've got way more patience than I've got. I dig the idea of having all the stringers where the cutouts are....awesome!!!!

I needed to fill the gap on the inside of the fuselage where the vertical fin joins the fuselage.  Using the old fuselage, I waxed up both halfs, mixed up some bondo and applied it too the fuselage halfs, then put them together until the bondo was just starting to get hard.  I opend the halfs up and let the bondo cure for another hour or so.  Then I popped it out of the fuselage and I had a perfect plug.  I cleaned it up a little bit then CA'd it to the fuselage.  All I have to do now is add the stringers.

I started the waist gun supports and wanted to make sure everything lines up, so i built the Aires .50 cal guns.  The supports have been installed to the fuselage waist windows and I started the .50 cal mounts.

Aires .50 cal Machine gun

Aires .50 cal gun support

Aires .50 cal completed gun

Thanks for looking

I spent the majority of the day working on fitting the rudder, rudder trim tab, elevators and elevator trim tabs.  I wish I had fitted the rudder before I started the stringers.  Oh well.  It's done and looks good.  The batteries died in the camera and my son has the charger up north salmon fishing.  I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

He's up near Macinaw at his buddies place.  The only thing he caught is a trout and a cold!  He's driving home right now.  Ya I got the P-51H a while ago.  I'll build her after I finish the Fort.

I take it you didn't go to K-ZOO contest!
