Well, Casting- not so good.   We have a new plan, and in the meantime, I finally painted the verdammt thing!   Fritzi?

Excellent work, Chuck!  Aren't Legos wonderful?  So much better than the old scraps-of-wood or half-a-milk-carton methods.  Good for making jigs, too.

Can't wait to see how the other half comes out!

A brief update, as I'm breaking, for me, new ground.  My pressing off the kit canopy had some serious flaws, so I've decided to make a vacuform- using a female mold!  We can trust Hauptmann Hannah to lead us down this perilous path, can't we?

Nice job on cleaning the spinners. They looked brand new.

Another possible solution is Parafilm M.  Flexible and seals tight at the edge.

Hey Chuck,

I know you tried a circle template, but have you tried one of those Verlinden scribing templates?  They're paper thin and very flexible.  Should create sharper lines than the plastic template you were using.

Here's a link to one from Megahobby http://www.megahobby.com/scribingtemplate1-48verlinden.aspx .  It's 3 templates, but they come attached, in one unit, kind of like a fret of PE.

I have a suggestion for the spinner problem.  After you mask with the tape, brush a thin coat of Dullcoat around the edge of the tape.  After the paint has dried, score the edge with a new blade to break the seal.  I have produced very hard demarcation lines with this tecnique.

Howdy Chuck!

I have an idea for masking the spinners - don't give up on masking tape discs, just cut them larger than the intended white area, them make one radial cut and shape them like a cone over the spinner. You know, so that the mask and the surface to be painted are parallel at the edge. That should take care of the overspray. If you like, I could help you calculate the exact cone, but it's easy, so you can probably tackle it yourself.

One more thing - you might want to pigment the tailwheel's whitewall a bit the brown side, I've seen them age like this on german equipment. This also depends if there's somethin iron nearby - like the wheel or the reinforcement wire in the tire itself. Then the whitewall gets a little rusty really soon.
