Just be sure to use plenty of prop wash so you don't scratch that shiny prop or gouge the nonslip gelb

And don't forget to get a yard of flightline so we can tie the prop down so it don't move and while you're at it we need some of that new cleaner Mil Spec K9P, we will also have to reseal it with a new prophylactic seal, and a new fallopian tube to go in there and a .... Oh I have heard/used them all. Cool

My father was warehouse supervisor at a potash mine up here. Every summer they'd get summer students helping with general maintenance etc. The first rookie task for all of them?

Can you go to the underground parts desk for me? Just ask them for the "long stand".... Underground parts guy says sure, disappears out back for 15-20 minutes then returns to release the newbie, who has now been standing, for a long time...

Great looking cockpit Big-Z!!! Almost makes me want to pick a Dragon kit so I can super-detail the thing. But Herr Field Marshall was in a hurry so I had to go with a quick, cheap, and dirty build on the Revell of Germany kit..... Wink

It's quicker to use an electric pump for the prop-wash instead of a bucket. Someone grab me a cordless extension cord please...

G you are working in braile scale...still can do some detailing....come out of your shell and do it!!!Wink

as an architect I obviuosly spent lots of time at the construction site....we would send the newbies to the materials/tools shed and ask for...

  • the wrench to tighten light bulbs
  • a box of holes for the expansion bolt plugs
  • the extension ladder to paint base boards
  • a couple of gallons of powdered gasoline

Gents, my Ho has wings:

I'm less than thrilled with the fit of the wings and there'll be a couple of rounds of filling to come, but she seems to be cruising right now, and I'm looking at grabbing another kit to do another marking scheme.

Here's a thought, if I did it in Russian markings as a captured plane, would that make it an IvanHo? Wink

Cheers, M/TB379

Ahhhh - the rebirth of a '60s classic! Whas this the version with the string control that you swung around & around your head? PETA demanded a recall because the string was never strong enough. Then it was replaced with cat-gut...

Yes, yes, she does...

This GB is dragging out longer than the $229 thread---ya'll MOJO's never asked for a deadline extension, but considering Vance is still drawing on cocktail napkins I guess I'm compelled to extend one...

Topping idea, what, Herr Feldmarschall...

My Ho has filled jointlines today. Guess I'd better order up the paint...

T-bolt: She's looking good! I had problems with the fit of the wings to the 'fusilage' on my kit as well. I think I'd have been better off just cutting the tabs off since they didn't want to align the wings straight.

Big-Z: Nice cat box. Still a P-51 though??? Seems like they'd have went with a WildCAT, HellCAT, or TomCAT etc, etc etc...

Actually, I'm surprised the agents haven't sent you the most recent roll of microfilm. Oh wait, maybe that was the "ribbon" I saw them playing with on the weekend...

Mein herren, eine kleine progress to report:

Three applications of Squadron White and the top joints will do... For what it's worth, the mounting tabs seemed to encourage a very natural alignment of the wings, very little coaxing was needed. There's a bit more to do on the underside, and I can be working on the landing gear while the paints are on their way. It'll be either a 76/81/82 scheme, or a 74/75/76. Oh, note the engine trunks, a couple of pieces of .010" plasticard, painted gunmetal and flexed into place with CA glue, not perfect but good enough from this angle (but are foreign bodies if you look up through the main gear bay...)

I just won another of these kits on eBay, I have a hankering for a more exotic scheme in future...

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Manstein's revenge

Try to get a few shots with my agent--I mean your cat--in the background...

Cats, err agents, nowhere to be found. They did however tag me with a tracking device of some kind...

Actually, it looked to me like a scrap of styrene stuck to my elbow for about an hour before I realized it was there. CA strikes again. OK, real pics now.

I worked first from the outermost rib. Attaching to the rib with superglue, pressing it to conform to the shape as it dried. Then I tacked it to the wing tip area, using enough tension to add some dihedral.

Working from the outside in - I tacked the next section of styrene to the next rib in to get the right contour, let it cure, then tacked it to the panel from earlier. (oops, this shot doesn't show panel 1 and panel 2 connected. It seemed to keep a pretty good compound curve though.)

Cockpit area.... Manny, this particular sample of the Horten wing was built at the Messerschmitt plant at Regensburg, so some panel sections were "borrowed" from the boys at the Me163 production line.... yeah, that's what happened! the section behind the cockpit can be used for extra fuel in my long-range version. (FYI, these are spares from two Academy Me163 kits, they give you the option of the standard bird as well as the twin cockpit "trainer" version. So no matter which way you build the kit you end up with a spare upper fuselage section.)

Removing the stub that connects to the stabilizer...

And a donation of the nose from a second leftover body - this will be blended into the upper section.
