cmking - that turned out super!  Really amazed at how well this one turned out considering the quality of the moldings.

I need to get busy with the ANZAC group build.  I've begun work, but haven't posted any photos of progress.  I'm encountering some discrepencies and confusions on the net about the paint scheme.

Also pledged to the 1943 GB when that starts up, and Bish's "Gift" GB.

Checkmateking - somehow I missed your completed 109, it's very good.

I'm back on my little Italeri 109G, and finished the main construction last night. The seams are all OK now, alhough the wing to fuselage join was a mess.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Thanks, taxtp.  And, it looks like you overcame the mess.  Good work!

Checkmateking02: A belated "ditto" from me. That Emil turned out very nicely!

Taxtp: Eager to follow your progress. Looks like a good start.

Cheers,

Stoutfella

Here is the last photo before paint. These Eduard masking sets make it really easy, a great time saver.

OK, here are some more progress shots of the Italeri 1/72 Bf 109G-6..

First, marked up ready for camo.

I was keen to try the Iwata airbrush I got for Christmas, so I decided to test it out and freehand the camo scheme. Not too bad, have to be very careful to keep it tight in 1/72 though. The only masking used was the canopy framing (thanks Eduard) and the yellow fuselage band.

Hopefully progressing to gloss and decalling shortly.

Cheers

Nice. Which Iwata did you get? I got the HP-CS I asked Santa for.

Cheers,

Mine is a HP-B Plus. I am really impressed with how easily it sprays really fine lines.

I've made no effort to verify the authenticity of the scheme, I'm just building this one. Anyways, I've given it the panel line wash, a coat of future and the decals. The kit decals go down pretty well, only one showed some silvering. I do think they are a little over size though. You'll note that there is some whitening of the future around some decals on the wing upper surfaces. As usual, a subsequent coat of Future has eliminated that effect, but I haven't photographed that yet. I will probably delay the flat coat until tomorrow as it's hot again here today, and too hot to spray in the garage. I might tinker with the prop, aerial, undercarriage and ordnance tonight instead.

Cheers

Nice clean build Tony. I take it the white spots are from the setting solutions affecting the Future?

Yep, the white spots are just that. I put a coat of Future over them this morning and they magically disappeared ,as always. I can remember being alarmed the first time it happened though.

Every time I build a 109 I want to build more, but other projects and GBs always get in the way ! I knew a guy who churned out one 1/48 109 per month for years, must have been a stunning collection.

Heh, I just finished 3 at once, and have 1 half done now, getting alittle burnt out on mottling, need to switch to something else for a bit.

I reckon 4 in  row would finish me off too.

I had a busy night then couldn't sleep so I put all the detail bits on it. I think there's the flat coat, some weathering and exhaust stains, aerial wire, pull the canopy mask off and navigation lights and I'll call it done. Apologies for the poor photography, I hurriedly took them before work this morning.

Cheers

Thanks Rigid, I've finished the 109-G6, apart from the filter (?) that goes on the air scoop on the side of the fuselage. I've lost it somewhere in the last 48 hours. I'll wait to see if it shows up, or whether I have to come up with another one. I can vouch that its not on the modelling bench, not in the carpet around the bench and most definitely not amongst all of the gunk in the vacuum clean - yuck.

It's the Italeri 1/72 109G-6, which I picked up for $2 somewhere. Extra work was to add an instrument panel  from resin, photoetched seat belts, drilled out the gun barrels, added the aerial wire, and a scratchbuilt pitot from Microtube. Then I just built and painted it. I also used an Eduard masking set for the canopy, saves heaps of time. I also pinched some swastika decals from the stash, as the kit didn't include any.

It's my first try at freehand camo without masking, it's not bad but the scheme has minor differences from the instructions.

Cheers

Thats a lovely looking 109 tax. Great work on the paint job.

I know plz66 hasn't been around for a while. But seeing as this GB is on going, and i am building a 109 for the 1943 GB, i am going to jump in on this as well.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

taxtp - that built up nicely Yes

As for the filter, those were used on tropical or desert versions due to the dusty airfields (I believe).  Your scheme looks more temperate, or European if you will - so it looks fine without it.

Jack
