Hey Dean, I'm just waiting until I'm finished a few other kits before jumping back into this one. I'll be building this:

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

I also realise that this Group Build is not so popular so I hope anyone with any Russian planes will take part as since the moderator is not with this anymore people have lost interest, but I hope some of you will join as there is some really nice models being made here and some are complete but I think there are many that are not so if you are making a Russian Jet please post your pictures and take part as there was a lot of enthusiasm for this project at the start and I believe there are probably many of you guys making Soviet jets but are not taking part. I committed to doing two other GB's but I think they have fallen off the grid however this is my first GB and I will be finishing my model and posting pictures as often as I can but I have not had any time recently but I will try and keep this thread as close to the top as possible.

Okay I am at the painting stage properly now, I have modified the wings and got it all sorted and I have masked off the various parts so now I need to pre-shade the model before painting, I do not normally do this but I found the pictures of the real aircraft Revell used for this kit and it has definitely seen better days. If you go back through the thread you will see what I mean, so the paint will have to be badly faded, and scratched and chipped, there is also quite a bit of rust here and there, I have no Idea wheather this aircraft is airworthy however it does seem so from the pictures.

Looks fantastic, the detail is sooo small.

Great work on the fresco Mikeymize Yes

little progress, a dark brown washing on both cockpits before to continue details painting

Great interior detail BSYAMATO, "weathering" looks very realistic, also the canopy looks spot on!

I tried the math because I thought I knew what I was doing...   in the end I did just glued on a slab of 1/8" plastic, rough cut to round and glued it all together.

I tend to over-think the obvious at times.

Ah man for me I simply curled a piece of card into a cylinder and pushed it into the nosecone and then glued it into the fuselage.and the gap was filled with filler. No science whatsoever. I dont think I would enjoy it as much if I measured anything precisely to me I like to craft the shape. I did not measure anything when I turned my Su27 to an Su37. I just looked at it from every angle for months while making it.

Should have seen me trying to figure the inner circumference of that Flanker nose cone so I could cut a reinforcing strip..  measurements and math are not my best efforts.   The Mk.I eyeball is much better.

Hmm I see, my method is don't measure use a marker or tape and cut and see lol, more often than not works! Possibly could get more accurate though.

Very scientific, I see.  Stick out tongue

I learned the measure once, cut twice method from my father...

No no just my useless measuring methods which amount to me holding the white plastic card against the wing and drawing round it with a permanent marker.

Ah, gotcha now.   I had thought that you were trying two different methods to the same end...

The right wing modification did not fit quite as well as the left which slotted right in and sanded smooth and rounded as on the aircraft however the right was fine but it needs filling as there was a gap along the seam so I will sand and shape it tomorrow as I like to let it dry completely for a day so everything can be handled without as much risk of breakage.

Well I have got the last necessary part of the wing attached, I just have to clean it up, sand and rescribe where necessary. I had to do this as I am lowering the leading edge flaps.

I say I won't do any more modifications for the kit but I can't resist adding more and more detail lol, I will most likely add detail to the wells, although the nose well is a little shallow by the looks of it however I was going to cut the well out and make it deeper myself but for the sake of progress I decided against it and I am not sure how much further to take the detail as I am not yet finished with the cockpit, I will return to it after the main painting is complete, so thats really the next focus, I usually completely finish the aircraft before cutting the pylons and landing gear from the sprue. There is still much work to do with this model and taking a shortcut is sometimes an attractive choice but it never pays off so I will persevere with the detail, I bet you would have a hard time paying £33 for anything else that would last this long for entertainment that's for sure.

1/48 It's the HobbyBoss kit. I'm doing it for this GB as well as Berny's. The metalizer paint I'm using on the engine as well as the rest of it is challenge but at least if I screw up on this part most of it will be hidden; not so with fuselage, wings etc. Gonna be fun!

Okay I have started painting!!! I have filled and sanded the flaps after removing them all which has been an extremely long and tedious process, I have sprayed the nose and all the dark grey parts you can see  where they are in the pic I have no Idea what they are for but every mig has got them. anyway this is my latest update, also I am leaving the engines out as the rear end of the engines can be inserted and you would never know the difference as I never display the engines though it's a nice option I never use it.

I grabbed it off some site called Wings Palette, however, this particular reference did not include specific colors so I'm left guessing. Which, to be honest, I've never been the most accurate paint colorist in this hobby. I generally eye-ball it and say "good 'nuff"...

Something I learned after the mistake was made.   I like making these color cards for projects as I can look at them under a variety of light sources and play around with the individual colors until I find the right palette.   Of course all the colors look different after airbrushing...

What does that chart reference for paints (if any)?
