Great work, Chuk.  I find it funny, though, that the dive flaps had to be trimmed, oddly enough, int he exact same spot on the 1:48 ones, that I had to trim on my 1:72 ones.

The fires here have rendered things murky and strange- a shadow fell acroos the bench as I was working yesterday-

-and quickly grew more ominous!

Aiee!  it blots out the sun!

Ash has been raining down, fouling everything, and reminding us of the tragedy unfolding for our fellow Californians who have lost so much.   Give 'em a kind thought, won't you? :(

Back to lighter things, I've been reducing the parts count on the Beast- get ever closer to the elusive all-in-one....

Here's Eduard's web site.  You can find all their products, usually see a photo of how they fit in the actual kit , and also pull up all their instructions.  The color stuff is really nice.  It has a great finish and depending on the cockpit comes in layers that you can build up.  Give it a look.

Also, while searching through Spruce Bros. website, I found the photo etch I need from Eduards, but what is the difference in some of the photo etch that they offer, and the photo etch that is called "Eduard Color Photo Etch Zoom."  I am trying to figure out which ones to purchase for the (ACM) SB2U-3 Vindicator, and the (ACM) Dauntless that I just purchased.

Thanks guys!!!

Also, I found the Vector Engine I need from Spruce Bros. as well.  Only 2 left!! wooo!!!

Thanks to both Dave and Chuk.  I order alot from Squadron, and have just started using Spruce Brothers.  Chuk, does the Military Shop have a website that you can order from online?  I look forward to the new installment tonight when I get home from dinner.

Chuk, not even a little hint?  1/48, 1/72, Aircraft, Armor???

You can also get the Vector engines at Linden Hill Imports and they cost a little less there too.  I paid $16.00 there and Sprue is $17.99.

Hey, Snake- I picked up various bits all over.  The engine at the NATS, PE at The Military Shop (I'm headed there today!), True details stuff from Squadron (don't buy the wheels- they don't fit!), Stencils from Squadron (very nice)- I guess that's it.  Sprue Bros carry the Vector goodies, they'll get more of my dough.

As for the next project, I ain't tellin', but Abe and company will be along for the ride.  I'll be posting an update later- I've managed to get some work done.  Gotta clean the house, tho- company's coming for Thanksgiving!

I love these engines.  I am trying to find one for the Accurate Minitures 1/48 SB2U-3 Vindicator, or the 1/48 Dauntless Navy Version from the USS Yorktown at Midway, from Accurate Minitures.  Just picked up both and I am trying to gather parts and resources for the future builds.

Chuk, where did you order most of your aftermarket parts for the HD?

If you were waiting for the Vector Engines R-2600, Linden Hill Imports has them back in stock.  I picked up mine today.  Thanks for the lead Chuk!

Give us a clue.

Well at least we have something to look forward when this is finished. I'm assuming Lil' Chuk and Old Abe will be along to help guide us.

Just following yer example Chuck! Like I said you have ruined me. Can't look at a parked aircraft the same way ever again!.   So glad you got your next subject! Should be very exciting and just as much a thriller as the HD has been.  Don't worry though I'll keep it under wraps. Wouldn't want to spoil it for everyone now! Mischief [:-,] The new Shushana She NA NA  character you are going to introduce is priceless though! Thanks for a great party! Party [party]

Many thanks, fellas!   Sorry, but no update this week- we had friends in from out of town, threw a big party and had tons of fun. Party [party] Got a bit done on the turtledeck, but had no time to do all the cartooning and such.  I think I have chosen the next project, tho- and my lips are sealed until the 'Diver is done.  Evil [}:)]

BTW, I added that tube a while back.  It's a dump or drain of some sort- I actually found it by tracing a long stain back to the tube in a couple of wartime photos.   It pays to pay attention!  Thanks again to sfmac for another great pic!

Being aviation maintenance officer for 20 plus years I do not think it is a breather tube. Breather vents normally would not stick out that much, if at all because all they are performing is a vent to breath. I also do not think it is a dump drain tube because normally dump drain tube are on the bottom of the aircraft. I surely am no expert on this aircraft but it sure does not pass the common sense rule for being a breather or drain tube. It almost looks like a tube to insert some type of hand crank, but I do not know if this aircraft would even have one unless maybe for turning over cyclinders when the prop is not installed. This is definitely one of those things that makes you go Hummmm! Confused [%-)]

BTW, Great..outstanding...terrific..beautiful..etc..etc. Model and I have loved your tutorials throughout the build.

Actually I should have turned the photo 90 degrees counter clockwise to get the correct perspective on the cowling view. The tube is just aft of the cowling centered on the fuselage. Just not sure what it is? Anyways the pic is a good ref on how Chuck did some fine work on deviling out the engine details that show in the cowling gaps.

With the proper resolution I am thinking he even added the casting numbers to the tiny actuators. Big Smile [:D]

Just aguess here, but could it be a p*** tube?  I don't even know for sure if they had them on WWII a/c, but it's center ventral location makes me wonder.....

Superb as usual chuk. YOu're in luck! The Helldiver in this month's FSM is 1/72!  Yours is different...in a great way with all the oodles and gobs of scratchbuilding you have done.  ANd I still really like the tail stripes of the USS Randolph

Chuck...have you ever done work with re-storing old war birds...you approach modeling like many of these air museums approach refurbishing great planes...your attention to detail is mind blowing..goes to show what you can turn out by not rushing your work...looking forward to your next project..

For this entire build, i think i can say, hand on heart, that you have entertained, amazed, astounded, stunned and made me feel rediculously useless in the modelling game. All of which, i thank you.

Whatever you do, keep the posts and builds coming. Bow [bow]
