Josh has just become the Plane Captain, rank tbd.....good eye....heady moves.....and stuff we can use!

Your rank may immediately move upward if you can identify the Author AND publisher! (So that others may acquire it!)

Truly....thanks for that great input!

Thank you, oh Benevolent Dictator, for the generous rank.  I shall do my best to set a good example, Sir. Pirate [oX)]

Your LT and Benevolent Dictator has taken appropriate consonants as a quick tag that we don't mind.....if Darren can be CAG.....I should be able to be BVD......or Nam....as you slacking Sgt's see fit!

My ref about seating the PBY cockpit floor has other options. You might 'notch' the floor sides to fit over the offending brace....or slip a peice of thin plastic sheet behind to take up the slack between seats and stringer.

This will just serve to keep things 'level'. Should you choose to just scrape the offending stringer off, I suggest the drilling tip I offerred earlier....drill thru the rear bulkhead and let the seat rails seat into the holes....otherwise the seats might sit 'pigeon-toed'. Just enough to offend the discerning modeler. (I had to fix it)

The cockpit seats are very tall......the molded belts.....very very thin.....tough to paint.....I will look for PE belts for next build. With closed canopy they should pass, but I'm embarrassed to photograph. (though I have done so).

Kit instructions are too pedestrian with color recommendations.....(everything chromate green primer) I mixed it up with 3 shades of green with some gray and some tan and some white as I saw it in my b/w refs.

I've shot pics and hope to have them up this weekend.

Thanks

Seems I been relegated ta holding barfing Marines over the sides on the flights again, Sir!

Fine and dandy I say and with 23 years on deck, being made a Chief it's about time.

Beggin yer pardon Sir, but how I work for a living, there's rats in the hull and I've got to go get 'em with the .45.

Minding my business Commodore, but as Chief of this outfit, I'd like to remind you that it's a 1/72 PBY-5a from Airfix that will be modified fore and aft and in the engines to be a Super Cat, as used for fire fightin'.

Yours, CWO Luther B(illis)ondoman

After 50 years (or more) of watching, I can do all the WB characters well except Tweedie. Me specialties are Foghorn Leghorn and Elmer Fudd.

Hey Nam, in case I didn't mention it before, my 1/144 kit is from Minicraft, it'll be built OOB with the kit's "Black Cat" markings. I wasn't looking forward to doing a black aircraft in that scale, but lo and behold, there is absolutely zilch in the way of available 1/144 PBY aftermarket decals... not exactly a surprise, but a little disappointing. So "Black Cat" it's going to be!

Oh, and this Marine will be pleased to be known as a Sergeant and not a Petty Officer, if it pleases the Leiutenant, Sir. Pirate [oX)]

She let me borrow a different copy of the book today. It's the original manuscript! Has WAY more info, mainly personal info like boot camp etc. In the book he has also included a parrallel story of a Japanese sailor during the same period and also has the original letters that were written back and forth. The sailors name is Mr. Miyoshi Tamura, and is a former maintenance petty officer 1st class, Imperial Japanese Navy, and participated in air battles in and around the Solomon Islands during 1943-1944. He enlisted in 1941 and belonged mainly to Zero fighter units.

He got Mr. Miyoshi Tamura's address from retired Lt.Gen. JASDF, Masatake Okumiya.

I'll stop babbling now, lol.

Babble on Josh! Very interesting!

Warhammer! I rec'd the Osprey book I ordered about PBY Atlantic operations. I found some info about French and US squadrons operating from French Morocco....but absolutely not one word about torpedo ops!

Some bombing accounts and much info about depth charges.

I went to the LHS today and found a donor B-25 kit for the engines, props and cowlings; the old Italeari kit for $ 10. So if anyone needs Mitchell parts, let me know. This one has the gun ship nose and good looking clear bits.

Can't wait to get started, but two GB's ahead of it.

Ok I'm cheating a couple of days. I finished my Typhoon so I started into the PBY.Tongue [:P] Great lookin' kit too. I have always avoided Revell or Monogram kits, because I was told that they were poor quality. The heck they are - this kit is terrific. Now I wonder what I've missed...  Anyway, on to my question.

I'm at step 2 (Kit # 5617) and I can't decide how to attach part number 39 (cockpit floor) to item 71 (cockpit bulkhead). There are two little "tabs" on the bottom of the bulkhead that I assume are stops or locators for the bottom of the cockpit floor? Problem is, there's a lateral "bump" going across the bulkhead which will not allow the cockpit floor to fit tight to the bulkhead. I assume it's a representation of a reinforcing member. Is it OK to mount the cockpit floor on a slight angle (leaning against the lateral member), or should I file that portion of the crossmember off?

Thanks,

Rich Cool [8D]

Well, it IS the 30th!

I posted a couple pages back about that 'bump'. I cut out the bump flush with the bulkhead to allow the floor to sit properly. I also drilled out the two mounting holes for the outer seat rails (#89 & 90) and they can then be glued more easily from the backside of part #71.

Wasn't sure until done, but cockpit assembly fits nicely into fuselage half.
