Good afternoon, Gentlemen, and Happy Thanksgiving. I hoe all is well with you guys, and that time with your family has been very well spent. Know that I send my best wishes to all of you and your familes- wherever they may beSmile [:)]

Now, let's get down to business. Shall we?

Because of my scheduling here, I've decided to move up the start time ahead of schedule. Mostly because this is the first build I've done in the last year or so. But, I've got the bench set up; ample supplies and provisions; an execution order with clear cut objectives; and the local Micheals and LHS close at hand for support.

Gentlemen- The local time is 1700h MST, and I've got the green light.

My time starts now

Warmest regards,

Roger

Awesome Roger.  I expect progress pics before you go to bed. That's if you plan on sleeping that is Wink [;)]

Next on-line should be our Ozzie friends Big Smile [:D]

I expect to start either very late Friday night or very early saturday morning.  I'm going to need time to recuperate from work before I tackle my kit.

Oh, but of course! I will definately be sleeping tonight! Haven' had a good long sleep in weeks, and it is my weekend after allBlush [:I]

Just a short pause here. I've already started painting some of the smaller parts. Halves have gone together and am working on puttying/sanding the wings and fuselage. Looking to start the major painting in the morning, so at least so far I seem to be on schedule.

One real downside that I've learned is that research material is pretty limited. Most all the pictures I came across in books and the internet of the SPAD are in black and white. So, it seems that I may have to take a few "artistic liberies"Whistling [:-^]

I'll post pictures before bedtimeWink [;)]

Warmest regards,

Roger

My camera posts a time stamp.....the day and month are accurate, but I believe the year is always 2010!Laugh [(-D] No kidding! My own personal time machine! The camera knows how fast I build.

Dave is correct. Besides, it's not a race. I want to finish a fairly simple kit by the deadline and compare my final progress with that of the other GB members.

My plan is to start 6-8pm tomorrow. I'll take a photo of my 1/48 Mono P-47. I just need to get with Aaron or Frankie about posting it for me.

I hope that those celebrating had as wonderful Thanksgiving as I had! Stuffed, baby, stuffed! And home with 3 platters of leftovers!Dinner [dinner] Managed to beg off the bowling date the relatives have planned for Saturday.....but may have to go to the movies with them Saturday night. We'll see!

Glad to see you're off and running Roger!  I'll be watching for those pics. Thumbs Up [tup]

Nam- If there is anything I can help with, do not hesitate to ask. Wink [;)]

I took a couple of photos tonight of the Eurofighter, and then opened up the bag in preparation of starting tonight.  I cut off the fuselage halves, canopy, and wings to check the fit.  OMG, it's absolutely HORRENDOUS!

Fuse WAY too narrow, needs some spacers added.  Canopy looks to be from a different kit, 1mm too narrow and 2mm too short plus wrong shape to fit fuse.  For now, I am going to scrap that project and go up to my stash to find a replacement kit for this GB.  Dave, I'll post which one I will do later when I get it sorted out.

Bummer, I was really looking forward to the Typhoon but it looks to be a major undertaking to fix.

Sorry about the revelation, Frank! But it looks like the V-1 will o very nicely! A pretty unusual build, so that looks like will be an really exciting build!

Stand by for the pictures, guys. I wanna let the CA cure enough to pull the clothespins offBlush [:I]

Roger

This looks like a really cool kit, I have been contemplating getting one myself.

Sean- I remember that, next time remind me that I should have listened to you all along! Blush [:I]

It is a nice little kit, pretty simple with 17 parts but nicely detailed.  Most of my time will be spent filling and smoothing the fuse seam and the mottle paint job.  I love painting mottle!!! Big Smile [:D]

Thanks Very Much Frankie!

This is the OLD 1/48 Mono P-47D....some parts off sprues, but inventoried by the seller.....all there! I will use the kit decals if they are useable. Just OOB.

I'm unable to post pics right now, but Frank and Aaron have graciously offered to help me out! I will try not to burden them!

Starting building tomorrow!

Ok, guys. I've shut down the shop for the night. Zzz [zzz]Here's what I got so far:

Mostly assembly this evening. I've got the lower wings attached and the fuselage together. I've even got the landing gear struts attached and prepped for tomorrow. I'll be starting tomorrow off my breaking out the airbrushes.

Thanks Andrew!  4 or 5, eh?  YIKES!  Painting and decalling will take me most of the 48 hours, need a simple one to assemble. Wink [;)]

Nam- Glad I can help!  Let me know when your next batch of photos will be ready. Thumbs Up [tup]

Roger- WHOA!  You're tearing into that kit with a vengeance.  Well done!  I have painted the inside of the exhaust, and am currently gluing the fuse halves together.  Pics in a bit!

Laugh [(-D] Yes Sean! I have a new keyboard still in the box! This old one gets a blowing out every so often. When it quits......out it goes! The PC tower itself is much better protected! Nice of you to notice!

This build WILL be my first completed kit since I started in again!Laugh [(-D] (part of the reason I joined this build!)

Rog: Great quick progress! Hope to get off to as good a start!

Raptor, you haven't seen frank work his magic.  It will take him four or five hours just to detail the exhaust cone.  Wink [;)]

Roger, great start.  Can't wait to see some paint on it.

I'm loving all these start up pics.  I'll try to get mine on tonight before I go to bed.

Aaron, glad to have you back online and thats a great looking kit.  I hope Dee put the hammer away for the weekend.  ...and why wouldn't I trust a recruiter??? Confused [%-)]

Here's my start up pic.  The sprue on the far right is the tractor that comes with the kit.  I'm going to attempt that with my build as well.  The kit also comes with all the parts to do a two seater version as well so there are a lot of parts shown that won't be used.  I intend to do the single seat B version as I've already built the two seater.  I also stole some of the extra parts for another project so there is some stuff missing off the sprue that wont be needed for the build I'm doing.

LOL, I took a look at the exhaust cone and I'm thinking I can get it ready in two hours! Big Smile [:D]

Aaron, Dave- Those are sweet looking kits!  Looking forward to seeing you get started. Thumbs Up [tup]

Quick progress report from me:

I sprayed the exhaust inside then glued the fuselage together.  I removed the tiny propeller on the nose which is molded onto one half as after the halves were glued together, it was not centered on the tip.  Also removed the tiny pitot tube molded into one fuse half and will replace it with hypo tubing.  Filled and sanded all of the ejector pin marks on the stand, approximately 30 of them.  There are fairly deep sink marks in the thinker part of the stand, not sure whether to fix 'em or let them go.

Thanks, Guys! I just stopped in for a moment to check in with ya. I'm going to be prepping the compressor here in a moment to get started on the paint. I didn't think of it before, but after about 12 months of the compressor and airbrushes being in storage, I'm wondering if they'll have some issues. Guess I'll find out...

I gotta tell ya, Sean! It's good. But a little bit eerie. Ever wake up on your day off and feel guilty? I am. It's the first actual weekend off I've had in weeks, and I can't shake the feeling that I'm doing something wrong. Irrational, I know. But it i kinda strange. But as far as the new bench, i'm finding a few challenges I didn't anticipate. I ended up tripping onto the swivel chair I've got there, and broke one of the wheels. So now I've got a rocking chair of sorts. Not a big deal. Just gotta remember that when I get into some of the finer details. Ya know?

But all in all, things are going well. I'll post more pictures by the end of the day. I'm looking to have the majority of the painting done by then.

Warmest regards,

Roger

Note, like I said earlier, I already took both the fuse halfs off along time ago. The decals look pretty nice so I will see how they go.

Sigh [sigh] How do I envy thee, to be that young again ...  Andrew - looking forward to seeing your work again. Last GB we shared was the Classic Kits and seems like to me you were the resident "Speed Builder " there. This will be a piece of cake for you Thumbs Up [tup]

Nope - Never - But I use to get a similar feeling when I was at work. Thinking "There has to be Something Better I could be doing other then being here"

All I have to do is see pieces of Hvy Equipment being transported on the Highway or Drive by a Mining Operation and I get Nauseated Dead [xx(] !
