WOW you guys have some very nice builds going on.  My has yet to have its baby picture taken yet.  And yes to all you airheads it is a BMP-1.  That's a ifantry fighting vehicle.  A TARGET.

But guess what?  When ours runs out of gas we just hop down and throw out the thumb to hitch a ride.  You air guys sort of fall out the sky and go BOOM!Whistling [:-^]

But seriously your builds are going great.  Mine begins on the night of the 4th.  I'll try to get the unbuilt in the box pictures up asap. Just have to go though the baby pictures.  Yes, my wife just gave birth to our baby girl (Caitlyn) on the 23rd.

Keep up the great work guys.

The only logical choice for this group build!!!

Sorry to hear about the thumb Roy, hope it doesn't interfer with the model building.

Great progress guys and I'm thrilled to see so many of you started.  It's been a heck of a week at work for me so I'm going to decompress for a bit and start late tonight after I go see the bond movie.  Keep on modeling

I got started at 7pm. Here is the starting photo:

So simple the instructions are printed on the box!  I'm a little disappointed  it doesn't have Hellfire missles- this will be a toothless "predator" Big Smile [:D]

First step was to paint the sensor ball- it houses the camera and other stuff and is gimbal mounted. It is free to move so I didn't want to paint it later- painting it after assembly would most likely prevent free movement.

You can hardly tell they are painted- it's light ghost gray FS36375

On mine I'm planning on sticking a piece of dowel in my set of 3rd hands and up its tailpipe. Yours is looking great.  I sure hope mine ends up looking half as nice.  I don't see too many ejection pins that need filling on mine...I'll take a closer look next weekend.

Cheers,
Alex

Coffee, COFFEE, AND MORE COFFEE!!!

LOL Big Smile [:D]

SImon and Jeff- You guys are flying, how the heck do you paint and detail cockpits on a build in 48 hours?  You fellas are CRAZY!  Keep it up, looking awesome so far.

Andy- I am very interested in this kit, as it is one I want to get.  What do you think of it so far (besides the missing Hellfires)?

I just finished my second POT of coffee today, hands are shaking so bad at this point that the mottle scheme was easy to paint.  I just held the button down to release paint and the the shaking hands did the rest! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  All airframe paint is done, next up is painting the new stand.  My bench is a disaster area!  No time to organize!

Alex,

The ejector pin marks on mine were not too bad, most raised so were fairly easy to sand off.  The large blocks that are part of the stand which makes the cradle for the aircraft had large sinkmarks on both sides.  I started filling and sanding, but realized that it was thinning the parts down too much to blend in with the rest of the stand.  Not sure if that makes sense or not, but possibly will when you start on yours.  I'll be looking forward to seeing it next weekend! Thumbs Up [tup]

Mate - it was just a coat of NATO black all over, which dries really quickly, then a grey drybrush to bring out the detail a bit. White on the instrument panel, green seat cushions, picked out the seatbelt in light blue and that was it ! Oh and a bit of gloss yellow on the ejection handles.

Just realised I've painted the drop tanks ( again) before I'd stuck the fins on them.............grrrrrrrrr

Ah, yes...

NATO Black.  One of my all-time favorite colors.  I use it for anything requiring a dark grey, black, or tire color. Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank,

Re the AM 1:72 Predator- so far the fit is pretty good. The wing-fuselage gaps are bigger than I'd like,  but that's always true. Based on my extensive research (i.e., Google Images Laugh [(-D] ) the details look good for 1/72 scale. The cameras globes I've seen on the web are different though, they have a flat area where the viewports are and this model doesn't have that- would be real easy to sand a flat spot though. I'll have more later.

Since you're doing a rocket, do you like the Revell V-2(A-4) rerelease? I'm thinking of getting it.

It's brilliant isn't it ? Black , but not quite black, excellent for tyres.

Gonna peel the masks off soon.

Start time 8pm.  Heres what I started with...

And this is were I'm at...

The fit is terrible and theres sink holes all over the wings and fuselage. As you can see there were a lot of gaps to fill. Just noticed some more sink holes on the wings I'll fill those and then let this sit over night and I'll start again tommorow.

I came close to tossing this but I'm bound and determined to see this through.

Frank,

I can't speak to how it will look when I'm done but, this is stupid easy to put together. I can see how folks can like these 1:72 kits. It's way too small over all for my tastes but I may go with some of the U.S Navy WW II kits in the future since they will be larger. Hell, I may grab some modern kits in this scale in the future. The one thing I learned was to take it REAL easy with the sanding stick. This is nothing like the scale I usually build. (1:48 A/C or 1:35 Armor)
