Ugghhh - Dead [xx(] I had better looking pits back when I had just a paintbrush. I really was not happy with the "Russian Interior " color, to make matters worse it is a gloss instead of a semi or flat finish. My gut feeling was to mixed and sprayed some last week, but I wanted to do this build by the seat of my pants.   Oh well if the clock was not ticking I would have stripped it and used a German color I am familiar with.. Just about to marry the fuse sides....If it aint in there - too bad Taped Shut [XX]

Pe.2 pit

That's what it's all about Rog.  We learn with each one and especially for you after a forced abscence from the hobby.

True enough! Like everything else, It's a process with quite a learning curveBlush [:I] It's not just the forced absence, but the fact that I've built only a couple of kits over the last 20 years or so.

Patience is definately a virtue hereAngel [angel]But hats off to you guys who are the real experts here!Bow [bow]

I'm at a standstill here! All the detailing and drybrushing I did last night is still kinda wet and tacky! I've given it all night and half the morning here, and still it's pretty pliable. It seems I've hit a kind of work stoppage in that I've gone as far as I can go without. But I can't do the final assembly until it cures a little bit more.

I don't suppose anyone else has this problem here. Have they?Confused [%-)]

Go the hairdryer Mate.

I tell ya, Simon! That was the first thing I thought of. Sadly enough though, the Wife got custody of it though in the divorceDisapprove [V] I've basically been relying on the Arizona sun hereBlush [:I]

I'v been running into the same problems I always am.  Airbrush problems and hand brushing problems.  Colors I want to use are custom mixed.  The AB likes to clog up and not spray for no apparent reason (though its sat in thinner for a few days before this and been throughly taken appart and cleaned as much as possible).  And when handbrushing, the paint is to thin and doesnt cover.  each time I try and put on a new coat, the thinner in the paint makes the old coat plyable again and just spreads it again, argh.

Don't be discouraged Roger! Never met a Biplane that didn,t fight to the end!  I like what I see so far!  Actally really amazed by everyones stuff! A good variety of subjects and techniques all in one GB! Great things are happening. Printed my decals and letting the film dry. should be done by midnight tonight. What am I gonna do with the other 24 hours? Hmmmm!

Smeagle sometimes a good old dot brake fluid soak can get those airbrushes working like new again! Also may try a clear coat to eep your colors from interacting and reacting.

Now I am confident I will finish but not enough to go bowling? I have to go back and review all the stuff that is happening when this build is done. Really moves fast!Cowboy [C):-)]

Sean- The photos don't show any evidence of trouble, looks perfect to me! Thumbs Up [tup]

Dave- Sounds like you'll be painting in no time.

Roger- Sorry you're having such trouble with yours.  If you don't mind, here's a couple of things that might help on the next one.  Some are things I knew, others I have learned here.

1. Have a plan.  For instance, I knew I had to let the glue on the fuse dry overnight so I started the build late enough to allow for the gluing session, but also gave me enough time today for decalling, Future coats, final coat and assy.  Needed to have paint done last night and Future overcaot for decalling session first thing this morning.  Needed to overcoat decals this afternoon to allow time for final coats.

2. Pick a subject you're familiar with, and a kit you are comfortable with.  Less shock later in the build process.

3. Acrylics for speed of painting, Future for clears as it sets up quickly.

4. Learn when to say "that's as close as I can get in the time allowed".

Not trying to be a know-it-all, just thought I would share.

Just sprayed the satin coat (8 parts Future to 1 part Tamiya flat base) and when that's dry in an hour or two, I can add the final piece (generator prop on the nose) and I'm finished.  I decided to go with a satin coat as these aircraft were built, then sent off on their one-way mission.  Not much time to sit around and weather.

Pics soon! Thumbs Up [tup]

Mine is not getting done by the end date.  My paint is no changing colors in the jar, my custom mixed pink has gone from a bright and pull pink to almost white for no reason.  My ab still isnt working right (I dont have any motor oil) and one of my pieces cant seem to get any paint on it without accumulating a massive amount of dirt and crap though, it doesnt move an inch.

Also, my index finger has gained a problem again that I used to have as a baby, the tendons swelled up on my right index finger (im right handed) and I cant even grip a paint brush, or press down the button on my AB

FINISHED!!!

I went back to look at the clear after my last post, and it was already dry!  Probably due to the dryness in the house from the heat running. Thumbs Up [tup]

SWEET Frank!

Here is the latest. Underside is painted and the topside just needs some splinter camo. I masked the canopy using Micro Mask for the first time. No idea how it's going to turn out.

Jeff

Well Done Frank!!!

Well, as of 10 minutes ago, my deadline has ended. I won't go too much into detail. I'll let the picures speak for themselves...

Pardon all the clothespins- between those and the straws, i've got everything kinda supported until I'm sure the glue has cured completely. After which, I'll throw down some future for the glosscoat and prep for decals. I didn't nearly get done everything I wanted to. But I think the hardes part is behind me. Just a little touch up paint, and installing the engin/prop and landing gear wheels, and I'll be wrapping it up!

I'll admit, for a little while, the round filing cabinet was looking pretty good. But I'm glad I stuck it outWink [;)]

Warmest regards,

Roger

Alright Frank!!!!  Nicely done my friend!  Cool [8D] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

I've been feverishly working away at the engine and cockpit of the Bf 108 Taifun.  Here are a couple quick photos right after I had applied a burnt umber oil wash to the cockpit and an ivory black oil wash to the engine assembly.  As you can see things still look a little wet.  I have two of my lamps hovoring over the assemblies along with the fan running in my spray booth to facilitate drying.

This is a nice little kit, but I'm less than impressed with the mold quality.  There is a fair amount of flash on the parts which is requiring a lot of cleanup.  The two fuel tanks are comprised of 2 parts each.  I didn't like the seams on them at all, so I took the time to fix them with a little Mr. Surfacer and some sanding sticks.

I'm off to the showers for a little break, then I'll get to work on the wings and fuselage.  I didn't get near as much done yesterday afternoon as I had intended, left my cell phone at a buddies house by accident Thursday night so I went to pick it up yesterday afternoon and ended up drinking a beer while helping him put a wood frame over the top of his Unimog.  Then wifey poo had me run to the store to pick up some last minute things we needed for our dinner party last night.  We had a blast, but I'm paying the price trying to catch up today!

edit:  I did some more checking on the color of the extra fuel tanks and straps.  I found a build that Bret Green had done and he had painted everything RLM02.  If it's good enough for him, then it's good enough for me.  He knows more about Messerschmitts than most.  Make a Toast [#toast]

Rog, keep the pictures coming.  Looking good so far.  If you could it would be great if you took another picture once the clothes pins come off for the official entry.

Scott, funny how the best laid plans get ambushed sometimes isn't it.  Looking forward to more progress.

WOW there is some great stuff going on here.

Frank, congrats on the buzz bomb, looks great.

I use enamels 99% of the time and I never had a drying problem, I brush or AB the paint and it's dry in an hour or so.

Not once did I bump my fingerBig Smile [:D]

I'm off to get cleaned up and get back in the game.  I have till 2000 hrs MST to finish.
