I'm kinda jealous.  Sittin here at work looking at all the fun you guys are having and having to wait until Monday to start.  There's some great work going on here.  Frank, just got a call from Kermit Weeks, he wants the V-1 back ASAP.  Won't go for the threefer for this build but will go ahead and get started on the Spit and Hurri cuz they call for the same camo colors as the Buffalo.  Hope Monday gets here soon.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.

Almost there...

Here I am so far. Gonna give it a shot of Future in a little while and let it cure over night. You can't really tell but the canopy looks horrble. I didn't read on the back of the bottle until after I painted it that you are'nt supposed to use water based paints. Oh well. The landing gear gave me a hell of a time too. Never tried splinter camo so that was pretty cool.

Any,

Sorry about the crappy photos but, like this build, it's a rush job...Big Smile [:D]

After helping my brother load the truck I feel that old.

I have a question, can I use an acrylic wash on enamel paint without a clear coat.  Want to save some time, it will just be to highlight the ribs on the fuselag sidewall?  Run it into the corners.

End of Day 1...

Interesting bit about this kit.  The toolbox on the rear of the StuG that Tamiya provided left the bottom and back of the toolbox open.  A little scratchbuilt back later, all's well.  Odd, as the back of the kit piece is beveled like there is supposed to be another part for the box, but the sprues are BARE... well, except for the outer half of the return rollers/road wheels/tracks.

First coat of XF-63 German Gray is ON.  Looks OK, might have lightened it a bit too much for scale, but it's gonna get whitewashed tomorrow anyways.  Gotta dig through the figgies and pick out a couple to whip up tomorrow between washes/clear coats, etc.

Here's a size comparasion between a 1/35 Kubelwagen and the 1/48 StuG IIIB:

More WIPics:

Everybody else having as much fun as I am?  Glued fingers together (twice).  Impaled my thumbnail bed with my pointy tweezers (the sharp a$$ ones from Squadron) and rolled my chair over 4 different parts I thought were still on my work area.  THIS IS WHY WE MODEL!

Great work everyone!

Frank, after looking more closely at the instructions, yes, indeed they are backwards. But, you know what? That's exactley how they will stayWink [;)] I had so much trouble with them that I will do more harm than good trying to fix it. I used CA to attach them and already sprayed Future. I'll just chalk it up to a learning experience.

Sprint to the finish starts tomorrow morning. Decals and prop and I'll call this one done.

Jeff

Well the building is done and the decals are a drying! pOST A FEW CATCH UP PICS..

used 4 diff colors of silver to get some effects including the doped canvas on the control surfaces.

Printed some of my own decals. I wanted a Pearl Harbor P-36A and that was not an option in the kit. Has French options but no real US combat version. This one was credited with shooting down the first enemy  Aircraft of USA entering the War. Got one and made it back with like 500 holes in it.

Saw a replica at Wright Patterson but it shows no anti glare panel. The Box Art on the 1/32 version does. HmmmmConfused [%-)] Left it off figure easier to add to than take away in that case.

So there she sits waiting for her last coat of future and unmasking. Add some antenna wires it will be done. Hurray!Party [party]

I'm havin' fun! I am at about hour 3, I've got the parts all separated and cleaned up and the prop assembly and resin (sweet!) cockpit put together, plus the wings.

First big issue came up about an hour ago. This is one of those kits where apparently someone took one kit and popped a sprue with replacement parts, in this case the fuse halves, rudder, gun pods and LG. So... the fuse just isn't gonna set down into its space in the wing without BIG steps on the roots, body side. I looked at notching it down, but the nose and tail won't be flush with the bottom of the wing, so I've marked with a Sharpie what needs to be ground off, and masked the body sides for carving. Shouldn't be too hard, wish me luck.

The 'pit is really sweet, it's about to go into the shop for a dark grey coat.

Everyone elses builds- FAB I'm really jealous, I spent most of today on the road but I'll get caught up tonight.

Fuse ready for scraping, wings, props, LG parts, 20mm pods.

Good looking stuff people. Can't believe how many of you are already laying down some paint.

So here's were I'm at.  The fit of the nose canopy and the gondola under the cockpit were so bad that I had to do some surgery.

I changed it from a Ju88 A to a Ju88P tank buster armed with the 7.5 auto canon. I have to admit that with only a couple of pics to use for reference I took a little artistic license.

The barrel is some stretched sprue that I added a little detail using some plastic strip and some left over PE from the parts bin.

The gun housing is made from Tamiya polly putty. After it dried it was sanded to shape and panel lines and a spent shell ejection port were carved into it.

I should have everything but the painting done tonight. So next pics will be of the finished product......I hope.

Well I got the fuselage closed up, tomorrow morning I'll attach the wings and while that dries I'll work on the LG and while that is drying I will clean up any seams and paint.  I hope to get it all done by 2000 hrs MST (8:00 PM for DaveWink [;)])  I have to say that this is all I'm doing tonight.  I'm just worn outZzz [zzz]

Got it futured and ready for decals - tomorrow morning. Tried an oil wash for the first time today and it didn't turn out so great so I repainted and put on the future. I got the oils for my armor builds. It may be ok to oil wash armor on flat paint (without the future/gloss coat) since the uneven discoloration is ok or even desirable there. I didn't think it looked good here so I recoated. I'll try it again tomorrow, hopefully the gloss will help.
