Thanks Frankie!

I'll try to get a better pic of the pit before canopy goes on. I was very lucky with the fuse join and wing joins.....very straight and smooth.

Wings and stabes were not glued in these pics......some brush painting and other little stuff to do before the AB comes out!

Thanks again! Gotta run!

Nam, your P-47 is looking greatThumbs Up [tup]

It seems that I'm behind the curve as to building.  Here's the new seat, not 100% the way I wanted but I think it's a big improvment over the kit seat.  Not too bad for my first one, in 1/72 scaleWink [;)]

Now to paint it and dry brush my IP.

all righty guys the builds are coming fast and fursy and are looking great. i started on mine on yesterday afternoon after i got home from black friday. the best thing about it was the women in the store that day that made it bearable. i started the  m151a2 around 1800 and worked till i couldnt keep the eyes open any more and ended the modeling at 2300.  i will began back at 1200 and work till its done.  the weather been not so bad. we have had a slight drizzle and are waiting on heavier rains later in the day and all day sunday. the good thing is a can paint out in the shop. as for the hunting i am glad i didnt go  i have one heck of a head cold. so stay tuned for some pics of my build.

Now that's funny! Laugh [(-D]

Looking forward to your WIP pics Sean!

Robert- Dang!  You've been a busy boy. Thumbs Up [tup]

I added all of the decals, man there's a lot of stencils!  Looking back, I would leave some off next time.  Seems to clutter up the airframe to me.  Letting them dry now, hoping to have time to add another coat or two of Future this afternoon to blend them in.  Then a flat coat and a subtle wash (time permitting) then final assy.  I can see the end of the tunnel now!  Also finished the cart this morning.  Left it with a gloss finish as it most equipment I have seen in shops are glossy.  Added some rusty scratches and she's finished!

I'm at a standstill here! All the detailing and drybrushing I did last night is still kinda wet and tacky! I've given it all night and half the morning here, and still it's pretty pliable. It seems I've hit a kind of work stoppage in that I've gone as far as I can go without. But I can't do the final assembly until it cures a little bit more.

I don't suppose anyone else has this problem here. Have they?Confused [%-)]

Woohoo!!!  Things are moving right along here.  Great work guys... er... I mean elves. Wink [;)]

Was hoping to get started on mine last night but just couldn't do it so I got started around 7:30-8:00am this morning.  Just picking out a few detail in the cockpit before I can close up the fuse.  Will post some pics shortly.

Aaron, no more caffine for you!!!  I can't beleive you and Nam are doing BMF for this build. Shock [:O]

Roy, scratch building?  Seriously, you guys need to give Guy his elves back when your done.

Roger,

Are you using enamels?  They generally have a much longer drying time than acrylics.  I use acrylics, and usually use Tamiya X-20 thinner as it has a retarder in it that promotes slower drying and more glass.  For this GB, I am thinning with straight 91% isopropyl alcohol so it dries almost instantly.  Helps speed up the painting. Thumbs Up [tup]

Doesn't help you much right now, but acrylics are the way to go for speed building IMHO.

OK, 12:30 pm... 9 1/2 hours to go for me.  Glued on the tail parts, engine face, intake, and wings.  Just waiting for decals to dry for Future coats.  Anybody have any idea the minimum drying time for decals applied with micro-set/micro-sol? Confused [%-)]

Got the engine together and painted, little dude and the seat painted and done, and did some pre-shading on the wings.

Also got the wheels and landing gear assembly done before I hit the sack. Now to get back on it before I am forced to put up Christmas stuff!

Wow, some of you all are moving along alot faster than I am. I guess I need more coffee- but it makes my hands shake...

I did a little seam filling on the bottom and at the wing-fuse joint- probably could of used more but I'm keepin' on truckin'. Finished attaching all the little bits- waiting for the glue to dry

Left the prop/spinner off for now so I had a place to hold it. A microscopic probe thing that goes on the nose broke in half- thought i lost it for sure when a peice went on the floor- but miraculously it was found. Has anybody else noticed you can hear where the wayward parts land? That's the only way I coud recover them. Need a very quiet workplace though.

First update from Summit's Airplane Factory, - the pit has rather sparse details

Seat Two seats (?) and a control stick. Not to let my fellow builders down I have been using my "Modelers License" to spiff things up a bit.

Busy

And a scratch built panel , and a few other surprises that I am not going to show yet

Dash Back to the workbench, only 46 1/2 hrs to go ....

Actually Frank, that's exactly it! I've pretty much always used the MM enamels. Good to know that curing time takes longer- I'll have to remember that the next time I build with speed in mindBlush [:I]

It looks like I'll likely not finish under the 48 hour mark. But as it stands now, If I can get to the glosscoat by then, I'll be happy

Roger

Great work everybodyThumbs Up [tup] I see coffee makers are working over time this weekend.

Could'nt sleep so worked till about five this morning putting all the sub assemblies together and filling all the gaps and sink holes.

Just wondering are the Revell kits usually this bad? Poor fit. Sink holes. Canopy that you cant even see through. Thinking about just painting the inside of the canopy silver.

Well I'm going back to the bench and not stopping till the 88's ready for paint.

Frank, looks great! I have no idea how long you need to wait, hope its less than 8 hrs. Maybe a little heat would help speed it along

I've no idea either Frank.  I usually give it over night to be safe but I would think tht after a couple of hours you'd be good to go.  maybe try a test shot in an inconspicuous spot first before you go to town on it.

Enjoy seeing everyone sweat on this build.  I'm about 5 and 1/2 hours in and I got it all ready to close up.  Need to take a little break though and tend to the family for a bit.  Here's a pic of where I am at.  the only thing scrached is the seat belts from aluminum foil and painted.

I also mixed and painted the yellow on the tractor.  Not sure of what the actual colour is but I mixed RLM 24 (? yellow) and 66 to get this colour.  Figure that's what the airfields would have had on hand.

First update.  Started around 11:40AM Central Time (US) so about 2 1/2 hours ago.  Basic construction is done, no major fit issues except for the front where the die cast part meets up with the upper hull.  I have to install the tow brackets, so don't freak out at the big holes.  The fighting compartment isn't glued in yet, as I have some blanking to do inside.  The kit is tiny at 1/48 scale...about the same size as a 1/35 Kubelwagen.  I had to blank off some areas underneath the upper hull that were showing light through and you can see them on the shots of the running gear.  I'm trying a different approach with the road wheels and return rollers.  Instead of gluing them all together, then putting them on the lower hull, I only CA'd the inside portions of the road wheels and return rollers.  That way it "should" be easier when painting (and faster) and then just a quick dab of flat black around the outer portions of the wheels.   This is also my first time with length and link tracks, so I'm doing all the painting and weathering while they are still on the sprue.  We'll see how that goes.

So far I've only CA'd my fingers together twice and installed the gun mount elevation assembly upside down.  About par for the course for me.  Anyways, enough of me talkin', here's some WIP shots:

Thanks guys for the input.  I'll give her until 3pm for the Future coats, that should give me just enough time to spray the final flat coat tonight when it's dry.

Great progress pics!  Looks like you both are well on your way.

Dave- Can't wait to see your lil' Komet, sure is tiny in 1/72.

Hi ALL! Just got home from an afternoon of relatives and..........BOWLING! Ugh! (Hopefully that alone gains me some grace!) You should've seen me hurrying everyone!Laugh [(-D]

Mine isn't NMF......the silver is for priming as I also want to learn while I'm building! I laid some MR. S 500 on before I left. Dry now.....gonna sand and glue the wing parts on.

Ship will be overall olive drab over sky gray.....nuthin' fancy!

Great stuff showing up here!

Frankie, what model of Cadillac is that V-1?

Ugh where am I?  Why is there silver all over everything? Looks like I even oversprayed on Nams P-47! Every thing looks great. Had to let the paint get some drying time in. Time to make some decals! Awsome work everyone! Cept Frank? Where is the pit? Where is the pilot? Oh dear! Where are the gull wings? and WP engine? That's not Frankie tis an imposter!Bow [bow]

I'd believe it wasn't you if I didn't see the sticks!

Bowling?

Nam- You stumped me on the Cadillac reference! Confused [%-)]

Aaron- Glad you saw the sticks, I did that just for you! Wink [;)]

Fellas- Looks like 4 hours is sufficient drying time for decals and a Promodeller wash.  Just sprayed a few coats of Future to blend in the decals, and everything went well.  A couple of hours to let that dry then a flat coat and add the tiny prop on the nose and she is finished!

Time to go start the second pot o' coffee...

2 hours until the deadline, and this kit has definately not been my friend!

I've started the final assembly, but attaching the upper wng to the lower has ben an absolute nightmare! Just getting the wing struts to keep standing under the weight of the upper winghas been driving me nuts- can't support the weight with wet CA. The fit is kinda an issue too. I'd done a fit check earlier, and it all checked out. Seems with the whole kit and kaboodle together at once, the fit doesn't week after allSigh [sigh]. After jerry-rigging something, it seems it may stay up there fine now, but the strut alignment is still off on some of them. Oh, and it looks like some touch up paint is in order too.

It probably wont be the prettiest gal at the prom, but it has been quite a learning experienceBlush [:I] But I think it's gonna quite awhile until I even attempt another Biplane againWhistling [:-^]

That's what it's all about Rog.  We learn with each one and especially for you after a forced abscence from the hobby.

Major assembly is done,  Going to let the glue dry while I go out and run some errands.
