Rand,

Gonna have to put the Ali Cat on hold for a bit as Squadron is out of the decals at the moment.  May come back to it in the future, will keep looking.  Thanks for the sites.

Constructor-I know what you mean by the number of decals-that will be a couple day affair-I don't think I could handle the 1/72nd decals-1/48th will be hard enough.

Reasonably priced too, I might add-$24.-  The same LHS also has the Monogram 105F/G 1/48th kit that has been calling my name, so I think it may find a home after Thanksgiving.  Now I just need to decide which kit to build.....Also, there is an Acadmey 1/48th F-16A at the Hobby Lobby that would look good in IAF markings and I do have a 40% off coupon.....

I guess we took these Revell 1/48s for granted when they were aplenty. When we see some of them now we opened our eyes and see how good they are.

Lew,

Basicly the only decals you need are the IRIAF markings and the BuNo Number of the aircraft. I wouldnt worry to much about squadon or unit markings. I just looked at the acig Iranian victories data base and in the third column from the left, lists the unit or squadron the aircraft was assigned to.

Here is some more interesting info I found about IRIAF F-14's:

I hope this helps with your build.

Good Luck!

I came back from Abu Dhabi last night and I just opened the box of my Revell F-4C 1/48 Phantom just for a look-see. It looks like a simple build but decalling will be something else. It has more than 170 or-so decals to apply! But the kit looks good with all those tiny rivets. It will need a very thin coat of paint to bring out all the surface details. Am starting tomorrow after I worked on my shoot in UAE. Would you believe, there's no model shop in Abu Dhabi. There's one shop but all for RC!

I dont think I am going to get to start my "C" Bug until at least February or March. The Super Bug is going real slow due to the weather. I hope to get a heater soon for the workbench and then maybe I can make some progress and get my Super Bug done before Christmas or after New Years. Then hopefully start my "C" Bug.

Thanks Paul.  With a little luck, the Roden kit will have the correct S/N....or at least the correct combination for a mix & match.  Not sure of other decals out there for the Mohawk-I know that Two Bobs (anybody named 'Bob' has to be alright Wink [;)])-not sure of any others.

Worst case is that I will go with the F-105F or F4-E, both at my LHS-a chance to support the local economy.....

Hey Bob,

I found the OV-1 Association website. I emailed the sites historian for any info on a MiG Killer OV-1....I'll let you know what it comes up with.

Hey all-this is a very knowledgable group here, so......does anyone have detail info on a OV-1A Mohawk that downed a Mig-17 (I think) over Vietnam?  I've done a couple of quick searches, but can't find the detail info-i.e., unit, number, etc.

Thanks

edit-well, I found this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OV-1_Mohawk

Provided the pilot's name, Capt. Kevin Lee, but no other info, i.e. S/N, unit, etc.  So now I think I'll shift gears and look for something else.  Probably gonna be either an F4-E, F-105F or maybe an F-16.  I plan on doing some shopping over the holidays next weekend, so I should be able to come-up with something.

I got some work done last night on my Eagle.

I completed the main fuselage assembly, gotta fill and sand now, and there are some real doozies!

I am pretty impressed with this kit....it may not be up to Tamiya standards...but considering I bought it for less than 20 bucks at a show last year, you can't beat it. THe only downside is the canopy....the kit I have is the one that came with the ASAT missle, and the canopy is super dark....and the Eglin triple killer is clear.

Lew,

Sorry about that. I just wanted to have everyone present a Mig Killer that wasnt indentical to another participants build. It is perfectly OK for two participants to build the same type aircraft just not the same aircraft with same identical markings.

Just a couple new rules;

WWII Combat Aircraft used in the Korean War are allowed.

Participants may not build same type aircraft with identical markings; example... two F-4J's built as Showtime 100 will not be allowed. Cross-over's from other GB are allowed but aircraft presented must be a MIG Killer.

Rand,

I didn't know you weren't going to allow more than one person to build the same a/c.  Since Big Smitty's already started his, I'll change my entry from the Trumpeter Sea Fury (which had the 802 Sqn Mig Killer markings) to a plane to be determined later.

Thanks Rand.  As far as the F-51D, the GB that I'm in is not allowing cross-over's and the plane is 70% complete at this point.

Again, I have to take a look at my schedule before committing but I'm gonna try to build something for this one....I need something without a propeller in my collection....Big Smile [:D]

Rand-I'm still on the sidelines-not committing yet but very interested.  Unfortunatly, the one kit in my stash that qualifies, a Korean War F-51D, the Buckeye Express IV, is already a 'build in progress' for an other GB.  That being said, I'm searching & depending on my schedule, will try to jump in.  One question-is there a rule of 'no duplicates', i.e., two people building the same exact plane?  Won't effect my final decision, just determine which kit to chase after.

Thanks

Bob,

I am going to allow crossovers from other GB's. I have no rule against two or more partcipants building the same type plane but, no two people should build identical planes with same markings, example being no two participants build F-4J's as Showtime 100. However, you can do two planes that belong to the same squadron because the marking will differ between the planes. I am not going to allow MIG on MIG kills. I think the best thing to do here is a bit of research on your plane. I dont think anyone here is doing the F-51D (aka P-51D), which would count because the type has a MIG kill record in the Korean War. I have noticed no one has selected the F-82's, F-84's, F-80's nor the F9F Panther, even the B-29 which has a few MIG-15 kills in the Korean War.

When your ready, let me know. We'd enjoy having you here. Thumbs Up [tup]

The 1% is the fact that I entered that kit as one of my 15 in the "In My Stash 3" GB...but there's a lot of other juicy stuff on the list - don't think I have to worry too much about that getting voted in.

Dupes,

An A-4C Mig Killer it shall be! From my understanding that is the only A-4 to get a Kill.

Again welcome aboard.

To be honest I really dont mind it. It just so darn tedious and takes so long to do. On the average it takes me about two weeks to rescribe an entire model, But the results are worth it

I am getting closer to finishing my Super Bug and just as soon as that is done I will start on my "C" bug. Rescribing the Revell 1/48 F-18 Blue Angels kit is going to be the hardest part as this kit is molded in blue and not gray. Yuck [yuck]

Constructor,

There are 4 badges, go to page 1 and look and choose the one you like best. Then go to the top of page 3 and copy the HTML code for the badge you choose, now go to your fsm profile and in the signature section paste the HTML code there and SAVE your settings.

Any trouble, email me. Big Smile [:D]
