Dupe - THAT is going to be one monster build, isn't it?  Good times, my friend, good times...

Yeah, monster would be a good word to describe it...sawing the plastic nose off of the kit to replace with the resin version will induce the most heart palpitations, I'm sure. Sad [:(]

Nice bit o' work there, Arki.  I can imagine that was a challenging little stretch at the bench, eh?

Nah, that was the easy part.  I'm neck-deep in pre-painted seat belts, instrument panels and other fiddley bits now.  Ugh.  There are times when resin upgrades are just so much simpler.

Thanks for the look!

Fairly big progress update from me.  For those on dial-up (dupes), sorry but this is somewhat image-intensive.

I have the cockpit squared away, or close enough that I'm ready to move on.  I agonized over the interior color for awhile.  All my reference material indicated that German aircraft interiors were RLM 02 until November 1941 when the switch to RLM 66 occurred.  The particular kit marking's I'll be doing are a snapshot of the aircraft in 1941, so I could go either way and likely be right.  In the end I went with the RLM 66.  Suffice to say but Monogram's color markings were less than helpful.

I also guessed on the long floor area off to the right of the pilot.  I wasn't able to find any good pics of this area so I assumed this would be a padded spot for bombadier to lay down on.  Thus the leather color.  If I'm wrong...meh. Whistling [:-^]

I also have the fuselage, wings, elevators, main wheels and torpedo's glued together.

At this point the legendary Monogram fit is living up to it's reputation. Dead [xx(] With a wing loosely placed, the underside joint isn't too bad.

The joint on top, however....Banged Head [banghead]  That's about an 1/8" gap at the widest point.  And the other wing is exactly the same.  <sigh> It's always something.  I'll have to use some styrene strip to fill that distance.

Anyway, slowly but surely.

Cheers Make a Toast [#toast]

As an aside, seems rather quiet in here lately.

Arkii, that's some awesome progress going on there with that He 111.  That cockpit looks amazing with all those upgrades.

It has been quiet in here.  I guess the switch back to the full year deadline has a lot of us procrastinators busy with other projects.  I had better get cracking on the Snowberry soon though or I'll be in trouble.

Those of us around for the first IMS still have our scorecard noting the missing Snowberry.  Dang skippy we're watching and waiting for you to finish it this time.  Big Smile [:D]Evil [}:)]

Sigh [sigh] Yep... it got voted on in the first IMS GB but I was way over optomistic on my ability to take it on.  Blush [:I]  I've cut back on my GB commitments this year in anticipation of completing it this time! (I hope...)

Thanks Arki...yeah, she suffered a major stroke on Tuesday. Just left the hospital a while ago, still unable to speak, but she's getting some motor control back in everything but her right arm. It's going to be a slow process, but hoping for a full recovery! Approve [^]

I need to find a way to get some modeling done in the hospital...I don't think they're too keen on me bringing the compressor and airbrush, but maybe I could talk them into some X-Acto knives, sandpaper, and glue...? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Quick progress pic.  Sorry for the mess in the background! Whistling [:-^]

Wings and fuselage are together, using styrene strip to fill in the largest gap.  I'll smooth it out with putty later.  I can tell already this build will be a filling and sanding monster. Dead [xx(]

And on top of crummy joints, there are ejector markings in obvious and difficult to sand areas.  Like the gear doors! Angry [:(!]

Ah, good times. However, I am pumped to watch that classic Heinkel shape come together.

Dupes, that's terrible news.  I hadn't heard.  My Sister had a stroke two years ago and it is amazing what they can do nowadays with the recovery process.  She was lucky that it happened while at work and they got her to the hospital very quickly.  She has recovered well and has full mobility  but it takes a lot of energy for her to do simple tasks as she really has to focus.  I wish your Mom all the best and a full recovery.

Arkii, there is just nothing like the shape of a heinkel is there.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Dupes, best wishes to your family.  Sorry to hear the bad news.

Arki, your 111 is realyl shaping up nicely.  All that canopy work is going to pay off big time underneath that vac-canopy.  keep it up.

Hey, thanks a lot fellas. Mom's doing alright, but is going to have to undergo surgery to clear some arteries (ugh) in order to get full functionality back. Not much fun.

Looking good Arki! Neat Heinkel. Thumbs Up [tup]

I think the one year duration has got a LOT of people pushing their IMS builds back a bit...I know I'm guilty. Disapprove [V]

Progress report:  All quiet on the western front.  Just fillin and sandin, sandin and fillin.  Dead [xx(]  Actually, I did manage to get to the point of putting down Mr. Surfacer 500 so I'm much closer to finishing the seam work than I was.

Arkii, very nice progress on the Heinkel. I have built it before and it builds up nice once you overcome it shortcommings. With your update cockpit it should be a real stunner.

I started my JU-52 a few weeks ago but not much to show yet. Been buisy with life and such but hope to have some progress pics soon.

Gentlemen,

Here's some photographic evidence that I am indeed participating in this group build.  Sorry for the delay getting pictures up, and sorry there's only two.  I took more, but the others turned out too blurry to use.  Quick recap, this is Czech Models 1/48 Yak-15, as selected by this esteemed group.  Just about got the fuselage ready to button up.  Test fitting reveals a requirement for putty in great quantities, but this is one of CMs older kits, with old-school limited run issues (large sprue gates, thick plastic, etc. )  The resin cockpit actually fits pretty well, requiring no carving or sanding to get it to fit between the fuselage halfs.  You can see I've added some extra sprue reinforcements for several of the pieces.  One of my greatest fears is getting everything buttoned up only to have a major internal piece break loose.

More pics to come.  Great work on these other builds previously posted.  Look forward to seeing more.

 Cheers
