I actually started on the Saturn V this week. The rocket booster consist of 5 pieces. I lost some of the detail where they attached to the tree so I stretched some scrap and replaced the lost detail. (gray color)

Sat 1 As you can see this will be a pretty big model when finished. Still tossing around several ideas on how to display it.

Sat 2 I have also contacted several people who have built this kit and asked questions. Does anyone have a copy of the June of 06 FSM ? I believe there was a build up of the same kit in that issue. Mine is MIA.

OK - so I retrieved the Sea King from the stash, and after reviewing all the resin conversion bits and the three sheets of etch, I renewed the search for the Swordfish.

Surprise, surprise, in a box with a catalogue label bearing the entry "1/48 Swordfish 1" I found it.

Not too many comments please, my wife has already had a field day, the words 'boy look', as in 'you only had a boy look' have been bandied around freely. Anyway I have the kit now, and will post pics shortly.

Wish I had a dollar for everytime I sent my 14 year old to look for something and he couldn't find it even though it was staring him in the face.

Glad you found it Simon.

I'll try to post some pics or the Snowberry soon.  Need to clear some lots of space first.

My Eduard detail sets for the Hind came in yesterday from Great Models and I had a brain fart Confused [%-)]  I should have also ordered the russian interior blue/green paint for the cockpit. Going have to do that next and deal with another shipping charge Banged Head [banghead]

Hey, talk to me about those Eduard sets - how do they look? How comprehensive are we talking here? I'm just about to place the CC order for my AH-1W, was going to snag their Hind updates as well...interested to see how the Eduard PE compares to complete resin replacements. It certainly would be cheaper, I hope! Thumbs Up [tup]

I was looking at ordering the cockpit set from Cobra Co but than I would have to either paint the instrument gauges or...order the Eduard cockpit set anyways. Knowing I would most likely have to shave/cut off sections of various instrument panels so to apply the Eduard details, why spend big bucks on the cockpit resin set? I also purchased the exterior set #32127 which has a lot of tiny detail parts to dress up the Hind. I'm off Weds and Thurs and can scan both instruction sheets so you can check it out. Also got the Hind Mask set, first time I would ever try using one of these to paint a canopy. All 3 items came to what the Cobra Co Hind cockpit would cost but I think I might be getting more bang for my bucks.

On Eduards homepage you can view the sets and instructions.

I've just ordered some xtras to my Bf 110.

On Azgaron's advice I checked out the instruction sheets on Eduard's website (thanks Azgaron!). I'm wondering now if you need BOTH the CC and Eduard exteriors to have a "complete" build. Hmmm. Going to have to do more research.

The only problem I think I have with the Eduard interior is the pre-paintedness - may be tough to match the rest of the interior color with the panel's color. Let me know how you're going to swing that!

Bonus of the CC interior is a lot of crew compartment stuff...if I'm going to build this monster, I may as well go all out and superdetail the interior as well...Shock [:O]

A couple years ago, I bought the Eduard 1/32 BF-110 interior set and it looks pretty good! Would have been using it on this build had my BF-110 came in first. Looking forward to seeing how your cockpit looks after you're finish with it.

I got my new wheels in for the build. You can see in the pic that they are slightly larger, also the tires are a bit shorter. They look much better. The kit wheels were much to small and it didnt look very realistic.

Lucky for me I have a 1:1 version to see whenever I need it haha. My buddy owns this same car and its actually gonna be a gift for him. Hes having a son in a few months and hopefully he can display the car in his boys new room!

Wow no posts for a whole 24 hours.. interesting. I will just update this post rather than make a new one haha.

Got one coat of primer on the body today. Tamiya sets pretty nicely. I used Poly S plastic prep and it actually didnt work to well. made the paint fish eye in two spots. nothing I can sand down and fix but eh.. decent start

Hey, IL!  I just went back to the voting site and noticed all the votes are cleared out.  Dude, I wanted to write down the vote order so I could work through them over the next year.

Were the vote counts logged anywhere?  I think the Dolphin was second in my stash, but after that it gets fuzzy.

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%

Upcoming:

1/48 Revell F-14D

Slowly getting started here. Thought I'd take some before shots of the cockpit area before I paint it and apply the eduard details. No luck so far on finding any reference pics of the Hind cargo cabin area.

I came across a lot of the cockpit photos but that's an angle shot I haven't found, thanks! What I'm looking for is something showing the aft cabin/cargo area if I were to open up the left/right doors, the eduard set does offer some detailing of the walls around the windows that looks good. Wonder if there's a HIND Walk-around book out?

Getting ready to start on the Bullfrog. I found a resin upgrade at cobra and the BigEd pe set from squadron, now I need to find who sells the Black Magic masks for the fusalage. I figured that since I quit smoking (New year's resolution) I can use two weeks worth of ciggies for am parts.

Hi, my first update of the USS Essex. These 2 pics were taken last weekend with just the uper and lower hulls together, a bit of filler, sanding and a dash of primer. Since then the hangar deck and foc'sle have been installed. I am hoping to do a bit more today but it depends on how my day goes.

The hull is approximately 15" long. I am currently reading the Squadron book 'Essex class in action' and it's quite interesting. The Essex class were not really that good as carriers as built and it wasn't until after the war that a lot of design problems were corrected. They were very cramped and top heavy. One critical torpedoe hit and they would roll before damage control could get things under control. Two torpedoes and there's only one end to the story. Luckily the biggest threat to the Essex class was kamikaze attacks which of course didn't cause damage under the waterline.

Archangel - Oops, missed your progress photos.  Cool beans, but it looks enormous!

Paul - Cool beans part 2, and yours looks enormous also.  Jeez, 1/700 scale and still 15" long.  Darn shame it wasn't 1/350. Whistling [:-^]Big Smile [:D]

Some nice progress pics guys! Thumbs Up [tup] Paul that Essex is a build that I'll be following with great interest.  I built the Hasegawa offering a few years back with the full eduard PE set.  The kit had a lot of inaccuracies so I want to see how the Dragon kit stacks up.

I won't be starting on the Snowberry for at least 3 weeks as my bench space has been temporarily commandeered.  I'm working on a couple of smaller builds on the kitchen table in the meantime.  Lugging all 33" of that hull around is a bit too much.  Rather keep it in one place.

Paul - That hull sure looks a lot bigger in the pictures. Nice bit of History you posted, I never knew that about the Essex class carriers.  You got much snow up where your at ?

Steve - I cant wait until you start on your Junkers. I have the same kit hid away - I might have to crack the seal and take a peek at it. You have stirred my interest.

I am still plugging away or shall I say "Carving away" at the Saturn V. Lots of mold lines that need to be cleaned up. I did recieve my aftermarket decals in the mail last week. One of the fellows here on the forum who has built this model before recommended I replace the wraps completly with thicker styrene sheet.

Mr. Dupes

You and I Both are waiting for Cobra Helo parts. I am also waiting for the Big Ed PE set to come in. Earlier this year, ModelExpo had an EtchMate on sale. Good thing I got it, It looks like i'm going to get a lot of use out of it right away.
