BTW. The guys over at britmodeller.com on hearing of my loss had a whip round and grossed enough funds to buy a better airbrush, sidecutters, spare needles, cleaner and quick release adapters. Those guys restored my faith in human kindness and I cannot thank them enough for that.  Please continue making my eyes sore... I'm inspired! Bow [bow]

To begin; I had to figure out why other builds of the 1/48 Eduard Fokker Dr.I that I have seen did not sit right.  For me this was the first step.

Here is the basic Eduard fuselage with some Aftermarket  additions and one or two spares from the Eduard PE box.

Copper State models PE fret for their 1/48 Snipe in the foreground lends lots of interesting bits and bobs.

Next a temporary dry fits of the cowling to the fuselage to get it right.

Now a bit about the airframe.  She left the factory with a Bentley Br.1 150hp rotary and was much later given and up grade to an Clerget 170hp(?)  This may have actually been an Admiralty rotary.)  To do her with any reasonble accuaracy i will have to build another  Bentley.  Those RNAS  birds usually had them.

It's the 2nd half of the Eduad 1/48 Duel Combo.  There is a Camel in 1/144?  OMG that must be like a fly

Breadner's B6401 was in a set of Aeromaster Camel decals. He flew this machine in late 1917 & early 1918.

Great stuff Stephen. You never dissapoint with your posts. I love em.

I also love us crazy brits. Seat belt anchor points on the most combustable part of the plane. Excellent LOL and it (the fuel tank) also doubles up as pilot armor. Crazy.

Thanks for the kind words. Sorry to mislead you Guy.  The real attachment was the fuselage structure but since it won't be seen after I close up the cockpit I simply tacked it to the fuel cell part.  To be absolutely correct I should have used a lap belt as the Sutton Farm Harness was not used until very late in the war.  Mea Culpa.

Hey Stephen, I had to order the dual combo of the Sopwith Camel after seeing this. The wood grain effects are spectacular! Really excited about seeing the adversaries.

 Luftwoller, LOL.

Thanks Mobius for the kind words.

Now for more on the Eduard Fokker Dr. I kit.  The purpose of this comparison  helps the average modeler understand how different two kits of the same aircraft can be and to spot some errors. In the top image here the kit propellers are compared.  The Dr.I types should be the same length.  The Dr.I was shorter than the D.VII because of the minimum requirements for a propeller blade vs. horse power.

Here the wings from both Eduard & DML kits are compared.  The mislocation of the viewing window in the Eduard top wing is easily seen.  Now what was this window for?  Anyone?

Marc- AAAAACK!!!  You couldn't find decals, so you started on another target? Disapprove [V] LOL...

Thanks fellas for the kind words on the show win!  As promised, here are a few photos of some of the other entries on that class:

I'll try to upload some more later. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey Daywalker, Very nice set of pics. Great looking entries in the biplane catagory. Looking forward to seeing more of the IPMS Sectional turnout. Congrats again on the win, and thanks for posting pics. They are appreciated!

Cool Beans, did that mean that the inspection hatch didnt go all the way through the wing? Or did it?

Frank,

Just catching up again.  It never ceases to amaze me how many postings can show up between my visits.  Congratulations on your award Thumbs Up [tup], and thanks for sharing the photos of some of the other entries.

I glued the fuselage together last evening and put some Mr. Surfacer on the seams.  I should be able to clean them up tonight, and hopefully do some additional painting in the next couple of days.  My refueling outage fun commences on Monday, which will bring my ability to do just about anything outside of work to a screeching halt.  No complaints though, I have to do something to support my hobbies. Hey there Mobious - very nice work on the DH-2 and Nieuport, they look fantastic!  I have the 1/72 DH-2 in the stash and must start it some time...

Daywalker - congrats on the win, that D.VIII looks mighty fine!

Well onto my 1/72 Roden Fokker - she is now finished.  Some trimming of the struts was required but otherwise the rest of construction went smoothly.  In keeping with the OOB rules of the comp I am building for, the rigging was done from stretched kit sprue.  First time I have used this material for rigging - I am glad I don't usually use sprue for rigging as doing it this way is a little fidley.  Anyway, here are some pics of the finished model:

All comments, criticisms and feedback welcome!

Scott, Brad- Thank you very much!  If the work I am seeing here was at the show, choosing the winners would take the judges a VERY long time to deliberate.

Speaking of that, Brad- OMG!  Absolutely stunning!  How can do that ESPECIALLY in 1/72 is beyond me.  The overall finish looks perfect to my eyes, with the staining, dirt and grime.  Well done, that is some beautiful work. Bow [bow]
