Roy - I am not a user of acrylics but I have heard Windex works real well for removal.

Here is a pic for your Wife, I had my Daughter just take this in jest to Aaron's Garden pics.

Nice one Summit!

Finally! My X-15 is done! I didn't worry too much about the lost panel detail since it will be hung from my ceiling. I just took my losses and made the best out of it. Please, ask any questions that you want! Enjoy all!

(Note, Wyoroy, If you wanna put a pic on page 1, use the last one. It's the best of the lot!)

Graham aka Boba Fett

(note:Triple celebration for me today! Approve [^] Approve [^] Approve [^] I hit 500 posts, finished this, and got my braces off today after 2 years!)

Graham, nice work on a cool looking aircraft.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Congrats on the braces and the 500 posties.  Keep at it.

Sean, I feel all wimpy all of a sudden.  My two feet of snow on the ground pales in comparison.  The snow has let up for now and the forecast for rain tomorrow has been revised.  However it is still supposed to get up to +8C (46F) so things are still going to get sloppy.

Got a bit of time at the workbench and bit the bullet to try a temp winter camo scheme.  For my first try I dont think that it turned out too bad, am sure that I will get some pointers for the next time.

I also snapped a pic or two of the UH-1C that I finally finished.

Roy: thanks for the motivation (ie this group build) I am making great headway through my unfinished kits.

Matt

I need your help guys.  The P-40; I have sprayed a coat of future.  Mixed a wash of thinner and oil paint (Winsor & Newton).  I apply the wash to the panel lines and it does zip along but then stops.  So I touch that spot with the brush and it moves the rest of the way.  So now the lines are highlighted but there are spots where the brush touched.  When I wipe that off it removes most of the line highlights.  What am I do wrong?

Matt, Fantastic buildsThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  I think the winter camo came out great.  How was the Huey build?  Like I said before I have the same kit with the Eduard PE set.

I updated the roster page for you.

Roy,

What are you wiping the wash with?  When doing panel lines I will do everything that you have said, then let it dry for about 10-20 minutes.  Once that time has elapsed, I use a q-tip with a bit of thinner on it an lightly run it along the line until the excess has been removed.  I wouldnt worry too much about the little dots as you are applying the wash.  Just take your time and a bunch of Q-tips and it should be ok.

Hope that helps

Matt

I built that huey in a big hurry, think that it took about two days.  Looking at it now, I would be more carefull and add some styrine to the interior roof so that you cannot see down through the transmission area into the cabin.  I would also point out that the chin bubble glass is very thick and the fit is horrible.  If you take your time and watch the seams it can turn into a nice little build.

That's what I have been doing except not waiting 10-15 minutes.  I will give it a try tomorrow  when I have more time.  Need to spend some time with the familySmile [:)]

Sounds like it needs some drying time before cleaning off the excess. Oil paints are very slow to dry and like to cling to each other so it must be pulling off the stuff you want to leavr behind. I'd give it some drying time then try it out. Gotta go to work! Booo!  Hope you get it solved!

Since my X-15 is done, my next goal is to finish up on the V dub. I managed to get the water as nice as possible, so now I just have to add trim to the base, some more weathering on the road, and then I'm done!  I also want to start in on the B-17. Anyone know how to sand seams when it's raised rivits galore? I don't wanna rescribe and I like how it looks. Think of it as a high-detail (to a certain extent) desktop plane. I mean, I gotta use that huge stand, right?

After many moons I am calling primary construction of this kit done. I am gonna move on to major painting of the tracks and running gear next. I replaced the kit turret with one I had that was an appropriate STZ build from one I had, although I did have to modify it a bit.

I will possibly get some of the painting done over the next few days depending on weather here ...Propeller [8-]

Graham, all I can say is to cover the detail with tape and try to sand only on the seam.  Take your time and I'm sure you will do a great job.

Carlos, the T34 looks great.  What color green is that?  Plus is that sreen I see on the back vents, very cool.

For my next project I will be tackling my unfinished RoG 1/72 Su-27 Flanker-B.  Here is how it looks now:

And here is an idea for the weathering that I might add to this bird.

Some very heavy weathering on this "modern" bird!!

Roy, I used a Gunze Mr Color Russian Tank Green (one of two Russian Tank Greenshades they make) sprayed with my old Badger on the few parts I did paint so far. I posted another thread about it here awhile back wondering if it was the so called "tractor green" used on some Soviet tanks. The interiors of the fenders I handbrushed with Humbrol medium green. Under sunlight and incandescant light both are very similar to my eye, but here with the flash they look completely different. Yes that is screen on the rear deck, a fabric screen that came with the kit so you can see the armored shutters beneath. This kit has so much potential save for the horrid molding. I did save an OT-34 flamethrower nozzle that came with it as a sapre/unused part. I'll probably buy another old Tamiya T-34 and use it there just to have that variant.

How 'bout a bi-annual GB? I'm sure that a year of building would lead to plenty of unfinished stuff.

Dave - Canada Post is pretty slow at getting into the US. My Daughter has a friend in Fruitvale she snowboards with and they exchange letters - typically 2 weeks to get here. Less then 60 miles across the Border from here.

Dave, when did you send the PM?  There is nothing there from you.

Sean, I haven't been able to get any work done on my builds this week.  How about you?  I hope to get a little done today.

Roy - not as much as I had hoped. I have spent more time shoveling the white stuff and chopping ice of the eaves. I still have a T-plate and 6 screws in my right wrist so they kind of vibrate like tuning forks with that type of abuse. Makes my hand unreliable to do anything modeling wise. So just mainly sorting through kits in the stash. Trying to organize by Countries and era. (WWI & WWII)

Have you had any better luck with your washes ?  That is my biggest handicap with modeling is weathering.

I hope to have some time today to give it a try.  I have done a few trial runs on scrap and so far so good.  Now to apply it to the P-40.  I'll post some before and after pictures.

Roy I replied to an earlier PM dealing with your address.  I'll shoot you another but the card I sent was "returned to sender".  I double checked with the addy you sent but it checked out.  The only thing I can think of is they read my handwritting wrong (wouldn't be the first or last timeDunce [D)]).  Resend your addy and I'll check it again and maybe type it out this time on the envelope.  Sorry about the delay but at least you've got lots of other builds to keep you busy in the meantime. Wink [;)]

Sean, got your email last night and just might take you up on the offer. I'll shoot you an email later tonight if I can fight off the wife and kids for the computer.
