LOL, Bondo, you are so dead. Dee has yet to grace us with an appearance at this superior GB but when she does, i wouldnt want to be in your shoes LOL.

Ok Sarge, ill give it to you, in some of the pics, he almost looks to be smiling, but then again it may be wind. Have you burped him recently? Looks like you had a great day. Very tropical. Its the middle of summer here and the weather really cant make up its mind wether it wants to be hot or not. Went to work in shirtsleeves and it peed down...Nice.

Voidses, great work there bud. You say that youve finished the pit...it looks like the things decalled as well. Next post will be the Bruummm Bruuumm shots wont it?

Oh boy probably cuz I told her I work in the Chinese GB. Kids may nark him out though.  What's bad is she just told me she lost 4.5 lbs this week.  Couldn't tell it from that pic eh?  She is on a mission to get back to where she weighed before her stroke on Easter. Doing pretty good although still deaf as a door nail? ( What does that mean? Odd saying isn't it?

Guy the boy just left for work but said to tell you if you want a bigger smile from him, better send him one of your bikes! Or buy him a new one.  Said the Ducati would suffice.Tongue [:P]

I think I will sit down today and actually try and build something.

That is one fantastic T shirt. I have several...err...dodgy ones, that Geri hates me wearing LOL. Aah well.

As for my 'dumbass' moment with the lower cowl....'Whats he talking about? There isnt another cowl in the box........oh, there it is'. I managed to fill the undercanon troughs fairly easily with with some similar sized sprue. This was 'Tamiya thinned' into place, left for a few hours and then sanded down,

there were a couple of low spots which were easily filled with Mr Surfacer 500,

Ive since painted some acrylic on the troughs to check its good and it is. Onwards and upwards.

What else do i need to know to fix on the thing? I know the front scoops of the exhausts need fettling but what about wing armament? Theres no mention of wing guns yet they are on the sprues. Oh, problems problems.

Guy I think this Special Hobby kit gets more confusing the more I look at it. I do'nt think they did their research on this one. If I remember correctly you said you wanted to do the splinter camo. This was an experimental camo scheme and as far as I can tell only the planes from the 1st Squadriglia II Group carried this camo scheme. According to the Classic Airframes these planes were equipped with the wing mounted cannon not the under engine guns. I have never seen a picture of a G-55 with the guns mounted under the engine. I looked at the instructions and you are correct they make no mention of the wing cannons even though the access panels are for them are scribed in the upper wing! At this point I felt like I had done you wrong there buddy by telling you to fill the lower cowl in if there were no wing cannons! You could have changed build it as an early version. If you look in the kit Tree letter C part number 17. These are the wing cannons that they instructions foget to mention to install on the splinter camo version. I can not speak for the other choices but I doubt very strongly that they had the under engine guns either. I have found Classic Airframes research to be much more reliable than most other kits and that is how I am building both of mine. The cannons look like crap and I would recomend cutting of the barrels and drilling them out and installing some brass tube. If you look at the walk around you can see how poorly molded the cannons and farings are. I did this on the CA kit and the look much better. Here is the Classic Airframes picture. I also would not install the underwing shackels as they are not shown in the Classic Airframes pics either.

Hey folks!

By brute force, a number of members here in this group build have "persuaded" me to sign up. Consider this my application for enrollment. I've dug through the masses of unbuilt kits and I managed to find only one subject to be deflowered. If you will have me, here she is...

(Gratuitous work desk photo)

I've also been told that a video (of myself) is in order. I honestly don't think that I even own a piece of technology that can do such things... but I know people that do. Wink [;)] If such a video is not posted here by a week after Labor Day, you may thoroughly eject me from the ranks.

Nice choice Jeremy! I have that bad boy stashed away for a rainy day. I had to borrow my sisters camera to make my video so it took a long time to make but I finally did. So if it takes you a while no problem. Remember your already in so there is no getting out. You will just be harrased by Guy until you comply! Since Guy probally has his head on a pillow right now being that he is at 0 GMT I can already prewarn you what your first homework assignment will be. You must post a pic of the airplane you are modeling. It's pretty much standard pratice around here. if you have the time you might have some fun going back through the thread and watching some of the videos. If you find the video of Scott Baio you win a prize!

Finally making progress on the G-55. I have all of colors layed down and one coat of future drying. This kit seems to be really draging on. The complicated camo and a couple of overspay and masking errors added to it but I am getting close. Here is a piccy for you Guy!

Very nice, Crush! Do the national insig.s, the fasces, have a white background? I like to spray down a circle of the lightest of the camo colors under where that kind of thing goes, just to get a little more pop. Also, I've had it where the camo demark line goes through it and you can see that, which looks phony.

Thanks Bondo. This model has the square faces with no white background. Hopefully the CA decals will not silver as there is a large clear section on the faces. I know what you mean about putting a decal over a hard masked camo line and ending up with a visible seam where the two paints meet leaving a funny line in your decal. When I sprayed this model I was very carefull to spray at a very low angle across the mask so I would not end up with the dreaded ridge. It came out nice with no ridge. In fact I was a little to carefull and I did not get enough paint close enough to the tape so I hade to put some tape on the camo edge and spray a bit more paint to cover up the primer that was still showing through. It seems like I have been airbrushing forever on this model!

Bondo, I have to agree with Crushy, you and he have done a stunning recruitment drive. Perhaps i should be the one sending sweeties?

Here ya go Guy. Man with the future coat its hard to take good pictures and it shows every tiny flaw.

Gotta get some decals on ther to cover up some of the ugly spots and get that horrible shine off of it. man it looks like crap up close with the shiney future coat on it.

The reason i ask, is i muffed up on the fuselage sides. I used the ones in the instructions that are for the early 4 gun nosed G.55. The ones i should have are the ones they say discard. The top of the later G.55's rudder should be squared of, rather than on the slant.

I had a feeling when you used the other engine cowl that you might have used the fuselage halves that were on the tree and not the separate ones but I was afriad to ask because I did not want you to get discoraged with the kit if you knew about the incorrect tail. Lets just say it needed a tail replacement due to battle damage and they pulled one out of the scrap pile and it was the older tail. Actually a believeable story because most of the replacement panels usally came from wrecked planes. These mechanics wasted nothing. The engine would not even be cold before they mechanics started stripping everything usefull of off of them. The only exception was the U.S. Navy. They just pushed then off the edge of the deck. here is a cool pick of some Corsairs that have been plucked like a chicken for parts

Jeremy you are going to fit in here just fine. Like I said at the begining  read the first page. Guy is not big on rules and manners are not required for this GB. As for the pic of the plane some of us are modeling subjects that we have actual pic of. If so then Guy likes to see them. If not then you can post the color profile of the plane you have chosen. That way we can grade you later to see how good you did replicating the real thing. If you do not have any reference photos of the SM 79 I have a bunch. Yes for the most part we are a very informal and close bunch of freinds. You will soon find out what an honor it is to be part of this GB and will have made several good freinds before its over. Some of us have more than one name that we answer to. You can call me Michael Crusher or any variation of Soulcrusher. Daywaker is Frank and that is usally name we call him when posting. sfcmac is Aaron but we also call him Sarge or sometimes MacNeal. Bondman nick name is Bondo and our leader Luftwoller is Guy. There are others, my suggestion is just go with the flow. There will alot of sillyness mixed in with the building of models so feel free to add to the crazyness at anytime. I'll speak to Guy and get you a little more time on the viddy. The only one real rule we enforce is post pics of your work regularly. Other than that just about anything goes. Here is the link for the Scott Baio video. Now off you go! You have alot of modeling to do young man!
