Soulcrusher - So... you are the infamous Mr Baio! Big Smile [:D] Good thing you're in the western part of CT as the wifey actually works in the eastern end of your fabulous state and I should keep her far away from a cutey-pie like you.  Big Smile [:D]

Perhaps I will enjoy myself here. So far I have done nothing but laugh like an idiot while reading the posts. This weekend I will do a little research on the SM79 and see what I can come up with. I like the idea of being graded (hope there's a steep curve) on my work. The wife won't feel alone in her school work and I'm quite sure her grades will be better than mine which will keep the household at peace. I am currently elbow deep in angriness with my Hind for the Helicopter Group Build... she's throwing an ill fitting tantrum and I'm trying to wrestle her into shape. If there may be any questions as to me posting my progress, pop over there and check it out... they may be tired of all the pictures already. I will keep on track and I will go with the flow!

Scott Baio... unbelievable! Big Smile [:D]

*EDIT*

Nice paint work on the G55! Looks great!

SC that looks great!!! Beautiful paintwork!!! You have to keep 'practising' with your airbrush on this build? That's not a bad thing, love to see a good airbrushed camo on anything and your is looking VERY good!Thumbs Up [tup]

Very grand fine work on the G-55 Guy and SC!   I want so bad to join in but am still Swordfishin!  Spent the last 3 days just painting all the parts in that 1/32 beastie of a bi-plane.

I had a pleasant treat as my Oldest Boy joined us for a pizza dinner tonight and we had a good long family visit. Was good to see all 4 of my kiddo's together as it isn't near a common event as I would like.

sfcmac - It's always nice to have some family time and family photos! Thumbs Up [tup] As I was raised by wolves in the Ozark Mountains, I have neither.

Well... I know you don't want to hear this Guy and I might get a bat to the knees for it, but I need help with my first homework assignment. Disapprove [V] I know, I stink of shame and disappointment.

I can't seem to find any decent photos of SM-79s on the internet. Mr. Soulcrusher, you claim that you have a few to share? I would be indebted to you for all time if I could have a peek! If anyone else here could help me out, I would appreciate it tremendously! Smile [:)]

Here's what the box is telling me to do... if all else fails, I'll run with that.

Sorry so big and blurry!

What no pics of an SM 79 Sparrow? What the heck is your search engine?  Golly! In the early pages of this GB are many many pics of all kinds of Italian birds, If you get bored browse the 1st 10 or 15 pages it is pretty cool!

Guy your wish is my command!  Been working my you know what to death on these birds and still have much to go I am afraid along with the Tamiya one to squeeze in the middle.

It's ok about the pics though. I know it's his fault!!!!

I did see this pic. In fact, I've seen them all... I'm no slacker! I just thought there would be more out there... in color that is. I really like the top and bottom planes in the above picture but I don't think I have the skills to remove and reshape the "hump" on the top one and the lower one is no RA subject. Shame as they're both beautiful.

I did find these that I really enjoy. Like the one depicted on the box, they are colorful and pretty and all.

This one is simple but it caught my eye with the dark green fuselage band.

Speaking of slackers! Guy where is your 1/72 sm 79 you made with all the goodies? Still got some pics of it? It was pre GB so you may have to jogg his memory.

Have you checked Wings Palette? I think these are pretty good, although the unit listed is sometimes a little suspect.

God, I hear someone nagging. Geez, is Mrs Lufty on here?

Jeremy, your choice of paint jobs for the Sm is limitless it seems. In your picture selection, id have to go for the 2nd one down, the tiger stripey thing. Theres some great pcs on the wings pallet (Good man Bondo).

Voidses, Nice prop and in no time as well. I hope your taking notes Frank!

As for the G.55. As has been mentioned by myself. I cocked up big time with the fuselage sides. The kit supplies 2 different types. One for the early series 0 model and one for the later types. I used the bleeding early types when im building the later type. Its just the rudder thats wrong, so i had to cut the right one out of the unused fuzz and join it to the old. Sounds to easy. I just hope it turns out right. Oh i also lost one of the tiny glued on dimples on the engine cowl. The tweezepult was playing catch with the carpet monster. I had to fabricate a new one out of something tiny lol. Ill try to get some photos posted later or tomorrow.

Heres a couple of pics of my SM 79 for your delectation.

and some refs,

Well Jeremy isn't that the most aweful SM 79 you ever saw?

Actually it is one of my favs I have seen and it is in 1/72 scale to boot!   Very well done from a fellow who refuses to read the instructions.  Good thing he has SC to keep him straight. THey make a good pair. Like Lewis and Martin. Bing and Bob! Sanford and son!

Guy you get yourself together and eat a donut!  I have spent all day just rigging one wing!  Think this is easy? I work and slave all day just so you can go about galabanting with your friends doing lord knows what with you know who and I sit here stuck with the kids worring !

Ok that felt good!

Think that is easy!?!

Wassup with Daywalker taking notes? I can't remember writing a tutorial on building props (like he would need it anyway Wink [;)]). plz fill me in.

Truth be told the prop has been laying around painted but unassembled a few months. However putting the parts together was dióne in like 10min.

I just saw a few old replies to my earlier post that I didn't respond to, just wanted to let you all know I appreciate the comments.

Jeremy, judging by your avatar you'll fit right in with this nut house.  Welcome aboard and don't listen to anything Aaron says.  It really is his fault you know!!

Voidses, Frank kept us waiting for nearly a year for pictures of his prop.  Okay, not really bt it seamed like it.  He's been known to redo a prop paint job ten times until he deems it perfect... and it usually is.  Wink [;)]

Guy, I remember that Build.  You're Aces and I wish you were my Daddy.  Bloody brilliant build!!! Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]

Aaron, what's with the doodoo bag on the park bench?!? Confused [%-)]  I could post some pics of the hairball our cat coughed last night if you're into that sort of thing. Yuck [yuck]

I have been picking away at the CA 311 and I amabout to closeup the fuse.  I have no reference picks of the inside so I improvised with misc. bits from the spares box to busy up the lackluster interior.  Wash is kind of messy yet but I'll clean that up a bit before I close it up.

Nice work Dave. Plenty of quality Gizmology going on in there. (Thats the official word for the work that goes into filling unknown modelling voids) I like the windows. Are they tinted orange? How the heck did you do that? Is the huge front greenhouse going to be tinted as well? Also, Guilo Guido and Guiseppe look amazing. To think they are 1/72 as well. Bow <img src=" border="0" width="29" height="15" />

Aaron, Im intrigued by the green baggy. You get more and more random by the day. Are you turning into Bondo or is it te Stringers are driving you more nutty than usuall? My money is its a baggy of...err.....medicinal back meds Whistling [:-^] Dont take too much. you know what happened last time.....

Football today but im hoping to get to the bench. I may go up now and take a few pics to show you all where im at.

Here are the photos that i promised. Not a lot but the thoughts there LOL. This kit has seems to be giving me gip. The wing root on the L/H/S had one hell of a step so i spent the best part of last night sanding, smoothing, sanding, rescribing. Im calling it ok, that is unless you reckon i should attack it some more. Its the paintjob that will be the thing to look at, im hoping,

In the last pic you can make out the Supercharger inlet. This had its end opened out with the dremel and i intend to put a circular butterfly in it. In the next pic is the bumpy bit that i replaced. It almost looks like it was made for the kit....i said almost LOL,

and heres the pic of my disaster. I call it a disaster as ive realised that i used the correct one originally but then for some reason, thought that i need the early tail, so cut the perfectly good one off. Aah well. Heres the reshaped tail and the styrene that will have to be sanded to the right shape. The only plus side, is that the tail will look 'Right' without looking moulded onto the fuzz, if you understand me?

anyhoo, football time. Wish me luck.

Guy, that is a STUNNING SM.79!!!! Excellent work with the AB!!! And in divine scale to boot!!Thumbs Up [tup]Approve [^] Is that the Italeri kit? Nice work on the G.55 as well!!

Dave, excellent work on the interior!! Divine scale as well!!! Approve [^]

Guy - Very nice build on the SM79! Hopefully I can come close to that kind of quality. Looks like you're tackling the G55 pretty well also.

Dave - Thanks for the welcome and I've been well instructed as to who's fault it is! The 311 is looking good. Can't wait to see you handle the greenhouse on that monster! Lotsa fun!

So, I've made my decision, and I'm going with Guy on this one. I'll be shooting for the "tiger stripey thing". Big Smile [:D]

I also found out that my camera does moving pictures!

This is for all of you at the RA Group Build II !

Be kind as I'm very nervous... puked twice before I finally got in front of the camera. Yuck [yuck] Wink [;)] Next one will be better... promise!

Woo Hoo, I win. Jeremys been with us for such a short while and we squeezed a video out of him already. Im soo good.

Great choice Jeremy on the colour scheme. Thats deffo the one id have gone with. Plenty of colour. As for your English Chums comment, a 'Plonker' is a derogatory term used by Del boy in the series 'Only fools and horses' Very very funny and well worth digging out for a laugh.

Did i mention that ive started a diet today?

Didn't know it was derogatory... although I should have guessed! He just told me that if I'm speaking to a fellow Englishman, he would enjoy the term.

*EDIT*

Research should come first!

"The term plonker started out as a reference to someone who was forever drunk on cheap wine (cheap wine is nicknamed plonk) this person was usually a homeless person, or poor person."

Guy that baggy is for your diet! Yuck [yuck] I am afraid to ask what your eating now! Laugh [(-D] Probably a straight liquid diet of Ale and Porters! Make a Toast [#toast]

Michio it's just Frank has this,... well fetish with 109 props!  Takes him months to get one finished as well and it just reminded me of that. Laugh [(-D]

Jeremy if it is a derogatory term and you called Guy it , I'd say it is a safe bet it more than likely fits in some odd way or other. Whistling [:-^] Sounds like some term from a Harry Potter movie to me?  Nice Video but You look more like the chap on your shirt than Scott Biao?  Where is he anyways?  Probably has that G-55 super glued to his bum by now.

Dave! Remarkable work as always! Thumbs Up [tup]Bow [bow]

You all have got me noticing scale a lot more with that 1/72 stuff.  Those bombs look huge to me.  I have really been keen to notice how a lot of the 1/48 PE is really closer to 1/32 scale as well in the quest for ultimate detail but what ya going to do?  I'll let others worry bout it.

Mmmmmm, i dont know whats in the baggy, but its got me feeling hungry. The diet im on allows me a milkshake for breakfast, another for lunch and only a 600 calorie meal for my evening meal. Its only been a day but i swear, if either of my dogs gives me any hassles, thier waffles!!

Ive finally sorted the tail dilema,

ive got the guns on changing it from a series 0 to a series 1, you can also see the supercharger butterfly in the en of the pipe,

Ive opened out the shell and belt ejection ports,

and painted a prop, YAY,

As the beast is nearing paint, Yes, nearing paint. Im a bit squirly about the paint job ive chosen. The multi colour splinter i want to do on the destructions is for the series 0,

on the AM decal sheet ive got, I cant tell if its for an early or late machine. There doesnt appear to be lower gun troughs, yet there is wing canons,

Soooooo, can i model the splintered plane as a late model? Help.

Right here Sarge! Reporting for duty. I was out at the rifle range all day shooting my Mauser 98k and my freinds Mosin Nagant M1944. I have the bruises on my shoulder to prove it too! Man both of those rifles kick like a mule! Just finished cleaning the Mauser and thought I would check up on everyone. I ask someone to catch me up but there has been so much posted in my absence I do'nt think I have the time to respond to all of it so if I miss your post sorry.

Jeremy looks like a great camo scheme to me. Do'nt be afraid to ask questions as the Trumpeter instructions are full of inaccuracies. Going to watch your viddy after posting.

Dave looks like you are making some nice progress on a tough kit. Well done. You might want to borrow some of Aaron's meds to keep from going crazy when it comes time to mask all of that glass. Probally why my 311 has been resting peacfully in the stash pile for two years.

Guy a diet? Say it is'nt so! No more chocolate cake or has Mrs Lufty grown tired of the unwanted emissions that come afterwards? Looks like that Special Hobby kit is really messing with your head. Are you sure someone is not swaping the parts around on the bench when you are not looking.  Funny the only bad spot on my CA G-55 is right in the same spot. The rear of the left wing root just does not want to play nice, I filled and sanded it three times and it still is a little rough. My thinking is the same as yours. The airbrushing is going to make or break this kit not a seam that is a bit wonky.

Old Sarge is on a stringbag tear! After looking at all of those pics I had to go to the stash and pull out my Tamiya 1/48 Swordfish. Man there are alot of parts in that kit. Doubles because it is the clear version. I'm not building mine until I track down the photo-etch for it. I would have payed the ten extra buck for the kit if they had put them in there. It has to be the dumbest thing Tamiya had done in along time not including them in the kit. Mine is definetly going to be painted in the Bismark scheme when I get around to it.

As for my G-55 the Future is nice and dry so unless I get real lazy tonight t(it had been known to happen) there shall be decal going on. I am really wanting to start the Special Hobby Kit that good old Sarge sent me so I need to get moving. Mabye even some pics tonight!

I found out about the inaccuracies already! The Trumpeter instructions tell you to paint the interior italian interior green with light gray rudder pedals, light blue control sticks and silver yoke centers. No mention of the seats but I believe they should be silver. STORMO! says the interior should be blue grey. I mixed a couple of paints until I thought I had the correct color. One of the paints I used was gloss and one was flat. Well... they mixed fine but they didn't lay down too well. Fisheye! Angry [:(!] I covered it up the best I could and hopefully a nice flat coat will do it some good.

The interior has almost zero detail. Fitting the fuselage together kinda showed that there won't be much to see inside anyway. I added some wire looms and some actuator rods behind the control yokes. Probably horribly incorrect but at least it's a little busier inside there.

I also added some throttle levers to the hump below the Instrument panel. Again, probably not correct but looked better than nuthin'.

One queston I have for the pros here. Should I give the interior parts a black wash? There's really not much detail to highlight and the surfaces are pretty flat. I didn't know how well a wash would look on such flat open spaces.

Guy - How did you make the supercharger butterfly? Nice effect!

That splinter camo looks soooo cool that I would paint it on anyway! I'm all about the cool factor... not so much accuracy! Wink [;)]

Thank you sir! My wife says that I don't talk or act like myself in the short video. She says I sound too cocky! Believe it or not, I was very nervous! Had plenty of pictures taken of me but never a video. The wife has played parts in several bad horror movies so she has experience. She wanted to coach me... sheesh! Can you believe that? I'll make another one for you guys in the future and this time I'll let her coach me. Should be some good stuff! Smile [:)]

How 'bout it Lt. Cmdr. Richie? Do you have a video? I'm lovin' this! Big Smile [:D]

I've seen SC's vid, Bondo's vid and Frank's vid (even though we haven't been introduced yet) but the biggest browbeaters of all haven't steered me to their's yet. Of course I mean Guy and Aaron!
