Vetteman, thanks.  We had a good time.

Here's some photos of my work on the B-58.  I've completed the foiling and metalizer painting.  Next up is to clean the foil with warm soapy water, let it dry and then put a few coats of Future on to seal everything up.

After that I have to start attaching parts (the pictures below with the wings attached are only slid into place, not glued on) and determine how to attach the landing gear in a position where they are not fully extended.  The B-58 will ultimately be attached to a wood stand via acrylic rod and will be positioned so as to simulate a landing approach.

Most of this B-58 is covered in normal household foil, but I have painted certain areas with Testors Metalizer Steel & Titanium, and a few places with classic Testors silver paint.

Aggieman:

Outstanding work on the B-58. I would like to try thr foil methoed, I will look in to it.

Other subject, Rememeber the SU-15 that I did in the begining, I did not have in work pictures so it did not count. But I was entering it in the Orange County Fair in Ca and I won 2nd place in my division, My wife won first place for a doll house. Thats why I was in a hurry on that build. I lost to a tank.

I just build for the fun of it.

Sherman1111 Congradulations on your win with the SU-15, and hey 2nd place aint too shabby ya know. I have been fighting the flu the last 4 days and havent been keeping up very well here, my apologies for that. I will try and get your TU-128 on the front page in the morning.

Aggieman That B-58 Hustler is looking great a very nice job of foiling it, gonna look awesome when it finished.

I have messed with the P-38 a bit the last few days an I gotta tell ya, the nose on this model is gonna drive me crazy nuthin fits right at all. I think I about have it figured out but will be losing some detail, dont know if I will try and recreate that or not at this point.

Sherman- congrats on the 15, very nice build and dio. The 128 looks great, can't wait to see the Bounder complete.

Smokinguns- The 86 is looking real good. Such a beautiful plane(very "sexy").

Vetteman- The 38 is always a tough kit, Doesn't really matter what kit you choose, but the Mono. is especially tough. "Kick it's a$$, Seabass!!!"

Well I had a very busy week with horse shows, band practice, a late show fri. night, I even wrestled a bull wed. night. That was ridiculous, I was winning till he beat me!!!. Anyway, I got the canopy on and masked last night, and finished getting her ready for paint this morning.

Masked up for stainless steel panels by exaust, with a few panels for the same effect I got on the 86D.

001-22.jpg picture by fermisb

Unmasked, ready for steel metallizer. I normally use post-its to mask over metal finishes, but could not find any, so I decided to risk it using tamiya tape.

003-17.jpg picture by fermisb

For some reason, I did not get a varied shade on the panels that were sprayed over. It has worked every single time before. Oh well. I'll experament a bit later on.

004-18.jpg picture by fermisb

005-13.jpg picture by fermisb

I opted to close the canopy cuz the parts are super clear and you can still see everything. The seat is not correct for a "c" model(it is for later models), but I like the looks of the double ring ejection handles, and don't really care for the look of the older seats.

I must say, this kit is very well engineered, very little seam work. All the sanding on the spine ends up being only about 1/4" wide, very easy clean up, and along the belly, you only end up having to clean up about 3", it's a great kit for an NMF.

Fermis, like the Starfighter, always been one of my favorites.

Started the flying wnig today, buid up cockpit then when you put the wing halfs toghteryou can hardly see anything.

and half of wing, got a nasty joint where the outer wing connects. Should have been molded as one piece.

Fermis That is gonna be one "SWEET" lookin 104 !!!!!!!!! Just a thought here, couldnt you mask those panels again, thin the stainless like you would for a wash and mist it on lightly to get the same effect ?

Sherman Its true and I think kind of sad you cant see all the work and detail in cockpits once it is closed up. I have been working hard on cockpit detail and hate closing them especially the IP. I am finally making some nice ones then poof they are goneSad [:(]

I finally got the nose on the 38 this afternoon and looks like it wont be as bad as I thought, will still need some putty and sanding though. Was a lot of work sanding and fitting on the side panels I will tell ya.

Got the decals finished, now on to the fiddly bits. I was able to vary a few panels by running a buffing wheel in a dremel over them. Doesn't show in these pics, but I'll have more when she's done.

Fermis, that is a beautiful 104!

I hope to have some photos of my 99% completed B-58 later tonight, or, since tomorrow is my anniversary, maybe later in the week.  (While I may be close to finishing and I actually have the house to myself, in the back of the mind is everything that the wife is for me and I have a lot to do to get the house clean so she won't have to think about that when she gets back tomorrow).  Plus having the house to myself means I can watch any DVD with the home theater cranked to window-shaking extremes!

Nice work gentleman....Keep the pictures coming....

Here's the latest on my 1/48 B-58 Hustler.  Everything is finally covered in foil.  I am painting a few areas like the elevons.

I had my trial spinal cord stimulator installed last Thursday and I'm finding myself wanting to do more finally.  I forgot what it was like to be almost pain free.  Life is good.

Cheers

Rob, your B-58 looks great!  I have that same kit hanging from the ceiling of my workshop but I did it in MM metallics, not foil.  Having just completed the 1/72 kit, I shudder to think of all that additional size to cover in foil.

Tonight has gone well for me.  I remain at 99% done on my B-58, with just a bit of touch-up painting and a finishing job on the display base to go.  I managed to get my house clean so the wife will be surprised and happy when she gets home for our anniversary tomorrow, and having the house to myself, I've been afforded the privilege of big action movies playing with full home theater.  Aliens was first, now it's The Empire Strikes Back.  Love these movies, and I love the rumble from the subwoofer.

Rob, PAIN-FREE? What's that??? Glad to hear things are getting better. I got a get well gift for you. I'll leave it in your dads hanger this week, if that works for you! Oh yeah, the 58 looks great, now that you're gettin better....finish it!!!

Anyway, got the 104 finished this afternoon. Again I say, it's a great kit, I added Eduard color PE to the pit(just cuz I had it), and a true details seat(again, cuz I had it), not that it needed any AM. A good kit for O-O-B. The decals looked super thick, on the paper, but turned out to be nice and thin and settled into the lines and rivets with only the smallest amount of micro-sol on a couple of em. I left of the multi-colored stripe decals. I never liked the looks of them on any bird from that era, they just don't match, and look a bit silly.

 No more BS, here's #2

Thanks Fermis.  Your 104 is awesome.  HOW DO YOU BUILD SO FAST AND SO GOOD???????  I'm really impressed....

I'll tell my dad to keep his eye open for something in his hanger.  Thanks.

I should be able to wrap up the B-58 this week....(I hope)

Thanks again

I jealous.  I love watching movies like that......I've been watching "Band of Brothers" while working on the B-58.  I should fire up the Star Wars DVD's....Ya...That's the ticket...Star Wars....

Wow is all I can say... the f-104 and B-58 are soo good. I will be gone for a while soon. In Feb I had back surgery #3, and they put 12 screws in, something is not right and they are going to remove them and fuse another level. Last time I was in the hosipital for a week. I dont know what to expect this time, but the pain has increased over the last 6 weeks and i have been loosing the feeling in my right leg. I will finish the Bounder and flying wing when I am able next month. So I am in a holding pattern until I get the date for surgery..

Sherman1111 Sorry to hear you have to go thru all that again. We will be pullin for ya bud, and please let us know how its going.

Fermis

Now my chin hurts thanks sheesh. A beautiful build my friend !!!!! As a side note my Dad worked at Lockheed and worked on them when they were under devolopment, he had the honor of recieveing an injury that the 104s were famous for. They called them a missile with razor blade wings. They started putting pads on the leading edges of the wings so workers wouldnt cut their forheads.

She's done.  1/48 B-58 Hustler covered with household foil, clear coated with Future Floor Wax.  She was built OOB with the exception of the aftermarket Exhaust Cans and Elevons.  I also added some lead weight to the nose.

As Fermis said...No more BS.

Thanks for looking

Rob, excellent work on that beast!  The only negative, well, actually, only two negatives I see is ... you missed a spot of foil on the forward tip of the bomb pod, or at least that's the way the photo appears, and ... I'm getting ready to post photos of my completed 1/72 mini-beast that do not look nearly as good as your's!

Not to be totally out-done, here is my smaller B-58.  The only remaining task left is to put some varnish on the base.  I tried to make the landing gear appear to be in a retracting position as this display is of the Hustler as it blasts skyward.  I'm not sure if I actually got the gear to look like that, and to be frank, I wasn't even sure how the nose gear would retract, which direction, etc, and never found any photographic evidence.

B-58's and F104 are great builds, I am out classed...

Preaty much done with the bounder, going to have to hang from cirling to get more pictures, but with my back out i can't climb a ladder. and still no word from the doctor.

She is a big beast, looks like a flying dart. The Soviets sure made some good looking birds.
