To Anyone:

BARV Paint Question?

What is a close color (prefer official FS number) for Royal Navy "Light Sea Grey"?

I would prefer either Tamiya or Model Master.

Thanks.

Bill - DML has released so many Fireflies, I'm not even sure which set came with your kit. Tongue [:P]
I believe it comes with the T62 style, which is the composite chevron with the three rivets on the face. Personally .... I'd use them. I've probably seen more Fireflies with the T48 Rubber Chevron than I have with T-54's. I don't really recommend the Fruil Sherman tracks ... they're nice but aren't worth the expense. You might want to try a product called RHPS. I've heard very good things about there stuff but haven't tried them myself.

Gave my Ram it's bath last night .... no matter how many times I say that ... it still doesn't sound right !!!!

Robert,

I got one of the first sets which RHPS made. They are the T51's.

I am not that happy with them. They have a sink mark on both the outerface and the innerface of the track block. This is on just about every link.

Maybe I just got a bad set.

Nooooooo! Things keep going from bad to worse. I took out my airbrush and compressor to work on a school model, it was either corroded or sabotaged by my mom (she says that it's too big and makes too much noise), but it wouldn't hold air. Black Eye [B)] Just MY luck. But the other day I did notice my local hobby store was having a sale on NEW compressors. Big Smile [:D] But even if I do get a new one, I can't build my M10 until next the weekend. I have to study for finals (all next week) and have two major projects!! AAHHHHDead [xx(]

Well I got back early from Vermont today and it was so nice of them to turn the heat down for my visit (below 0 the whole time I was there)
Now I hope no one gets too mad but I started a little early (like monday).
My only excuse is that it is very boring sitting in a hotel at night.Sigh [sigh]

Am I fogiven?

Only got the lower hull done, if that helps. Shy [8)]

Not much progress here...I painted the wheels and looked at the individual tracks....nice detail but I hope I don't lose too many teeth in the building process!

Latch - was looking at a couple of ships tonight that were painted in Tamiya XF-54 Dark Sea Grey. That one looks pretty close to the colour you need.

I just found this web sight that has great photos for almost every tank used in WWII. There are tons of photos for the Sherman and its variants.

I need some help with specific markings (reference photos would be extra nice!!!). Ofcourse, I'm still working the lower hull, but I like to do my research before I need it. The Sherman I'm building is for a vet that was in 5th battallion, 16th division, company C out of Camp Chaffee from early '43 to late '44. I'm also adding an M5 to the diorama (should it be an M5A1?) and some help with those markings would be much appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance!

I had a very funny occurence, I did a lttle bit of painting (white), and I didn't like the way it was coming, so I cleaned it all off with thinner. I then washed it with water (and a tad of soap) and when it dried, it frosted the plastic completely white, except for where there was a bit of glue hanging around.

what caused this?

also the funny thing is: its the perfect color too. Wink [;)]

Thanks Robert,

Started on mine. The DML M4A4 has some interesting extra parts. Open rimed road wheels and closed rim road wheels. 2 versions of the drive sprocket, a round interior face plate and a scalloped interior face plate. After going over all my references I found the right wheels and faceplates to use.

Had to fill what looked like sink holes on the drive sprocket center plates.
And found one fo those cool detail reference pics that just scream for detail scratchbuilding (happy, happy, joy, joy) a tension spring on the forward hatches. (I love finding stuff like that...). Kind of anticllimactic start (spent my time referencing and filling) but I did manage to glue a couple of pieces tonight.

ROBERT! You've cracked me up twice here already this morning. First with the 'Principal's' carLaugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D],

THEN with the FS number quote.... reminded me of the bandito in the Treasure of Sierra Madre "FS numbers? We don't need no stinkin' FS numbers!"

Brought glue today, but might not get to build. I have gotten a lot of the resin ready, done some cutting to open up the access plates and get the turret ring to be closer to the right diameter for the interior and dry fit a lot of stuff.

WAIT! I'm IN for the study hall schedule today!! I think I'll bring the kit to study hall and put bogie assemblies together... the glue smell drives the kids nuts, which gives me a real warm fuzzy during the last class on a Friday! (take a class kids, not a study hall! moowahahaha!)...

Frosty,

I've told students that model making is great for study hall. I think it builds spacial (spatial? spacl...??) perception (can you tell I'm not an English teacher?) and helps with a lot of other cognitive processes. Model making is great for the brain... if you're not sniffin' the ol' glue! My best art metals students are often model makers.

Hey, that e address... is that to the MOMA as in Museum of Modern Art? If so very, very cool place!!

Robert, this is part of the review of the new DML Firefly posted on the Perth Military Modeling Society site:

QUOTE: The track is entirely individual links with the end connectors separate, you also get alternate end connectors with duckbill extensions although these are a little on the thick side. The tracks appear to be T62 steel block with the three studs on the face as well as a pin ejector mark on each pad. You could convert this to the more common T54 Steel Block by removing the studs at the same time as dealing with the pin mark, in any case the tracks are going to take a few hours to assemble.

I just hate dealing with ejector pin marks. I'd do just about anything to get away form that. Oh well. Thanks for the reply!

Frosty,

Last off topic for me here, apologies to the rest of y'all. Last time I was in the MOMA, they had an 'Art of Industrial Design' display. I asked where the tank was... The docent chuckled and said, "This isn't a military museum." "hmmmm." I replied (small 'h' and all).. "Form follows Function. Looks like your curator skipped a beat here."

Oh well, so much for modern armor being considered art. Wait a couple of centuries!

Ron

Study hall's next! Model is ready! Stay warm! The coldest I've ever been in was -35 degrees F, with a -60 wind chill (8 hours of solid airport line work... yech.). Summer compared to what you have out there from what I've heard!
