Did someone say arty build next year?

Sounds like we are going to get a pretty good cross section and representation of the Sherman family. This is getting exciting. Can't wait to see everyones projects.

OK just got back from the LHS and got myself an Academy 1/35 Israeli Medium Tank M-51 Super Sherman. Looking inside the box I can see lots of detailed parts in 6 sprues and a pair of rubber-band type tracks.
It also includes 3 figures, tank ammo and some crates and bags.

All in all I think I got me a cool Christmas gift.

Note you won't believe what you can get for 12 bucks (US$) a piece:

Academy 1/35 Tiger I with full interiors
Academy M-10 Wolverine / Achilles
Dragon Panther D or A
Dragon T34-85

BTW last night I got an Academy 1/35 Humvee Troop Carrier for 3 bucks and Academy 1/35 Mutt Jeep with Trailer for 2 bucks. But these will be going to my other nephews.

Not really mark. Just Christmas sale I guess. Besides, Academy is from Korea and Dragon is from Hongkong or Shanghai. These places are just 2 to 3 hours from Manila and with the lifting of trade tariffs the prices could really go down.

But of course don't forget $8 in the US is peanuts while here its about 3 days minimum wage.

I voted Sherman too.Cool [8D]

Now I have a question for you, what would be the best 1/48 scale model for a Sherman? If I do Kelly's heros on railroad tracks that would be easier for the tracks.

I may instead do a new Sherman on a flat bed being delivered.

dostacos - 1/48 Shermans .... not the easiest order to fill. Your best bet is probably the old Bandai kits .... they appear all the time on E-bay.
IIRC, Tamiya is venturing into the 1/48 armour line too. But when the first releases (and what they will be) hit the shelves ..... only Tamiya knows.
Other options of course would be resin kits ... but unfortunately I don't know who would carry them.

QUOTE: Trevor - Unfortunately the M12 is based on the M3, so I'd have to say it's a no go.

That's ok. I'm a slow builder and if I remember right the M-12 has some interior and that would push me over the deadline. So I think I'll just go with a simple Sherman.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

dostacos - Actually with the number of 1/35 kits available, I'd stay in that scale and scratchbuild the R.R. tracks. Might just be less effort than trying to track down a 1/48 Sherman.

Plastruct makes I-Beam that would be perfect to simulate the rails and some balsa wood can be used to make the ties. Both are readily available at most hobby stores.

Hope this helps a bit.

Yes;the way things are going,I would have to say the Sherman or theTiger.I will give and ending time soon on this poll.Ending time will be posted before I leave out on monday the 29th.I will need your help in how to post my pics of the finished kit[which ever wins the poll]on my computer. If you all want to know which kit I will build.then I guess I could end the poll sunday evening and then post the results sunday night. If not I will wait until febuary when I get home.I will leave the choice up to you all.So go to the poll and let me know.

To dostacos;you can use match sticks for r/r cross ties.Just cut of the heads and glue together or use as singles.Depending on the size an scale you needSmile [:)]Cowboy [C):-)]Smile [:)]

For those who wants to get the Academy 1/35 M-51 Super Sherman, this is what you will get with the kit:

The box, of course with the kit inside it:Big Smile [:D]

Not that we need it but I appreciate it that Academy includes a tube of glue with their kits. They come in handy sometimes.

Overall, I think the molding is crisp and with little clean-up to do. The rubber band type track are well detailed too.
