                        well it should be interesting if I get my M10 down before March 15, should be nip and tuck.

                        I have to build tamiya's Me262 (clear) and the gloster meteor w/V1 by about the middle of Feb. as well as this GB.

                        Okay, Okay, - I'm in Thumbs Up [tup]


                        Gotta decide between:

                        Kitbashed Fire fly - (started collecting before Dragon's new release)
                        -----MP M4a4 Hull
                        -----Cast-off turret
                        -----AFV suspension
                        -----Accurate armor tracks
                        -----Verlinden - sherman stowage


                        or

                        M-7 Preist w/PE and kangaroo (yes -both - I'll just double everything)
                        -------the kangaroo would be a "kit rescue" - it was started by a neighbors kid - many pieces missing and globbed on glue. The patient may die but it will be an interesting operation.


                        Can't decide - but I don't know if I can attempt the firefly. I haven't pasted SHERMOCOLOGY 201yet . I have been studying and the tudoring is helping but I don't know if I'm up to snuff.


                        Either way - I'm in

                        Mr Viking - re: tracks. I'd use the ones that come in the kit .... any Tamiya track ain't half bad.

                        That's one you don't see everyday. I take it you have a conversion kit?

                        Digger - words of warning .... don't even think it. LOL

                        It's a long way from a Ram to a Sherman ... or vice versa.

                        There's been a couple of conversion kits put out over the years ... none of them great.
                        I have the S-Models conversion.

                        When is the start date? Well… I guess I have started a little early, but I have to because next semester is going to be a tough one in school. The AFV M10 is coming along nicely, but those little bolts on the side of the hull where a PAIN!! 26 total I think and they were each two pieces. That is a LOT of sanding little bits.

                        I have however found an unexpected benefit of building allied armor. I am used to working with the beige Tamiya plastic that accompanies most German kits that I buy. Unfortunately, Tamiya has engineered their plastic so that it perfectly matches one of the many shades of my carpet. OD plastic on the other hand contrasts my carpet quite well and has cut down on the amount of time that I spend on my hands and knees!!!!!

                        Sadly, I fear that this time gained will be spent on the extra work needed to put the suspension together and clean it up. Sherm, how do you do it!?!?!?!?!

                        Beware!!! The "Carpet Black Hole of Lost Parts which are Important" still exists even for builders of allied armor.

                        All I have to say is WOW!!! This is my first attempt at this kind of suspension since my Tamiya M3 Lee about 11 years ago and things have really changed. The AFV suspension housings come with 12 parts each. The best part is that once I have finished this jigsaw puzzle, I will have a working suspension. Did I mention that the AFV Club M10 also comes with an aluminum barrel and the main gun has real recoil action if you push it back!!!! This kit has a lot of little fidgety bits and the plastic is a little on the brittle side, but it is packed with detail!!! I really think I got a good bargain for $30 on this one. I saw this kit on sale for $22 at my LHS yesterday though.Angry [:(!]

                        Edog - start date is officially January 15th, but I fully understand the time constraints that you are dealing with. AFV's Sherman suspension is probably the most fidgety of all the companies ..... have fun.

                        Tom - Welcome aboard, good to hear from you again.

                        Digger - You convinced me so add the Ram to my build list. In addition to the Friefly, I'll do S-Models Ram Mk.II.


                        Chris - I may regret it ...... but add it to the list !!

                        Think I'm going kitbashed firefly.

                        Now help me out here - still boning up on my SHERMOCOLOGY (This what this build is about, right. )


                        With a firefly:

                        Some were M4A1 hulls known as "IC" - shorter than M4A4 hulls
                        Most were M4A4 hulls known as "VC" with V VSS susupension - some were HVSS - but not many
                        --------M4A4 hulls - have to close off front machine gun port
                        Two hatch turret was bumped out to make room for 17# breech
                        Steel chevron tracks
                        Any other sherman variations? - Yeah, usually had british occupants
