Guy - I am so wanting that resin pit you built Wow that looks incredible ...  The reference pic I had showed those gauges outlined in red and yellow. I so wanted to do that but I felt I used all my mojo on the dry~brushing of the details.

Slow progress today, got the fuse halfs joined - great fit

Been looking at those cigar shaped things wondering where the pros are and why they are missing from the kit

Dave - I can  blame the scratch~building on Aaron since he is not here to claim otherwise. It all had to do with a simple OOB ship build last month.....

I have not yet begun my 262 but have begun scouring the net for reference photos and have been following the on-going builds here.  From what I've been able to find, the 262 had forward wing slats that automatically extended when it got to a certain slow speed, and these slats were extended when it was parked.

The Tamiya kit doesn't replicate this feature, but I've found the following product at Squadron and Sprue Brothers that seems to solve this issue:

I've never heard of this manufacturer, Wingz USA.  Has anyone used their products for other builds?  The one review I found of this recommended it but said there are no installation instructions.  I suppose I could work without that but it's better to have instructions than not when dealing with unfamiliar products.  I guess I'm also a slight bit hestitant to take a razor saw to a perfectly good set of Tamiya wings, but I've done it before, so I could certainly do it again.

Pretty quiet here the last few days....

Once again I attempted to assemble the 30 mm and got side tracked. Thats how I ended up with a new nose gear well..  Not bad representations of the cannons in the monogram molding. Should show off at least one side .  I grabbed the razor saw and cut the cowling along the hinge line. Gluing plastic to plastic in a open position never looks right. So I thought a groove with a piece of wire layed in it would at least look better. But wait If I am going to add wire why not make it functional right ? So this is where I am at today.

Someday I might get to work on those cannons..

Aaron, sorry to hear about your back.

I've had a bad back on and off for the last 5 years or so, nothing as major as your problems, but I always go to osteopath, who soon gets me sorted.

It was my doctor who sent me to them in the first place, as he didn't beleive there was much he could for my back.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Sean you are definately filling the illustrious boots of the Sarge, on his drug addled time out. Your a machine with these old kits. I loved the work you did on the nose leg and im sure this canon door work is going to be equally great. Makes my stuff seem easy by comparison. Geez, hundreds have probably done what i intend to. Keep it up big boy.

I got the sides on the fuse together and the UC bay goes in a treat,

My work is pretty old school, I just work with what I have in hand. I dont have much luck finding aftermarket goodies, then if I do I get sticker shock

Guy, lovely progress, I'm so tempted by that Aires cockpit but I must resist the temptation! The paint job is excellent.

I know plenty of others have been putting in some great work to. I'm itching to get going on mine after looking through these posts but I'm not getting any bench time at the mo .

Frank - I guess you were not aware of Rule # 7 ~ Anyone hosting a GB must push aside other projects to currently be building the Model for said Group Build.

Sheesch  - I just realized I never posted pics of the Front Well after paint.

And the cannons are painted ready for some solenoid wiring.

DANG!  Missed that rule.   Guess I shall have to rememdy that!  May be a while though, won't have another day off for a week.

Excellent work on the gear well!  Amazing what a little extra work will do.  All eyes are you with this one my friend!  

One more tonight of the Cannons. I painted them (30 mm) with RLM 66 then followed up by coloring them with a # 2 penncil. I used my finger to rub/ polish the graphite to a nice metallic sheen. Too bad it does not show up in the picture. Using some .010" brass wire I wired in the solenoids and the cannons. The black "hoses" also do not show very well.

Sean, thats looking great. The extra effort has really paid dividends. Thats the only bummer with my conversion. The nose is a solid lump of resin. The old Dragon U4 kit had a hatch that you could see a rudimentary gun. Now if i was you and not Tom Selleck, id grind the hole out and add one. Damn my good lookingness,

Hi guys,

I'm watching stunning builds go together here -- Sean, your scratchbuilt detail additions are nothing short of brilliant, that nose gear bay, the strut pivot, you're making that old Monogram kit into a masterpiece! I'll have to do a major read-through and follow up on all these amazing jobs.

I have some progress to report, having finally managed to do the internal detail spraying on the NMF parts, the bulkheads, underside of the cockpit, interior of the main gear bay (now I remember I've not sprayed the nose gear bay, so I'll have to do that in the next session...) plus the engine intakes and exhausts (the latter in a special color mix).

The wing is going together right now, and I should have WIP shots plus more details tomorrow, after the internal detail painting and all is done, and before beginning main assembly.

The Express Mask set for this kit is now on its way, with a bit of luck I'll be at the main painting stage about the time this GB was originally intended to begin!

Can you elaborate more on what you did there? You painted the guns and bay RLM 66 and then colored with a pencil? What do you mean? Did you use it all over or just in spots? What is the purpose to add wear? The addition of wires is a great touch. What scale is this bird?

I just called the LHS and the Revell 1/72 Nightfighter I ordered is in. I hope to go pick it up some time today. 

I was able to find and download the Squadron book for the Me 262 but it had little to nothing on the night fighter and no color photos of paint schemes. Dose anyone here have any helpful links? 

Dirk -  I painted the platform and bulkheads (?) with RLM 02 as it seemed to match some of the color pics for the sheetmetal. (looks better then aluminum IMO) The cannons was painted with RLM 66 a nice dark grey, as black would be to dark. The # 2 pencil I colored everything with the side of the tip I could then used the point for the hard to reach areas.  To rub it out I first used a q-tip which was a mistake as I have cotton hairs everywhere I am still plucking off.  My finger worked better and I rubbed it till it shined which to the eye looks like a natural metal color.

I took another pic to try showing it but it is hard with no natural light. (I live in the PNW - I wont see sunshine till June )

The scale is 1/48

Mike - This is a Great old Kit, I am glad Aaron talked me into building it.. I like these older kits as there are no super expectations when they are built. So anything extra you add is icing for the cake.

Frank -  Still no Me 262 on the bench yet ? Thats gonna cost you 60

Dirk, the purpose of using the pencil is to rub graphite onto the guns.  The graphite when rubbed on gives it more of a metalic look.  I am doing the nightfighter in 1/72 scale as well in the markings of Red 10 (Hasegawa kit though).  I 'll take a look to see what I have for photos and colour profiles.

Guy, saw your mug over on the RA thread.  Dang you're handsome.  Good thing you live across the pond.  As for your resin masterpiece it is awesome!

Guy -  Im with you, everyone is home today here so not much done. I did clip off the engine pieces off the sprue.  I am really surprised with the detail Monogram molded in.

Ok guys, I stopped by my LHS and picked up my 262. Here she is...

The Kit

The Parts. There appears to be some nice detail and the panel lines are recessed. For a 1/72 fighter there are a lot of parts. I didn't take a picture of the decal sheet (Flash washes it out) but there is a ton of very small decals that comes with this kit.

Dirk, can't wait to see what you do with that kit.  I did the Revell 1/72 A-1a kit OOB a couple of years ago and found it to be a really nice build.  That PE set looks sweet.
