ME-262: Reich Defender II 10/09-7/10
Posted by Daywalker on Saturday, September 26, 2009 9:47 PM

After the success of the "109: Reich Defender" Group Build, a number of people expressed interest in a follow on.  Well, it's time for the Reich Defender II: ME-262 GB!  This group build runs from October 1st 2009 through July 31st, and all are encouraged to participate!  Only a couple of rules for this one...

1. Have fun!

2. Post as many photos as you like.

3. Any variants of the '262 is allowed.  This includes the A-1a, A-2a, B-1a, the Avia S-92 and CS-92 (post-war Czech versions), the Japanese Ki-262 and a number of one-off experimental versions.  Also, any of the ME-262 Mistels are allowed, even if one of the aircraft is not an ME-262.  As long as one of them is.

4. Cross-overs allowed.

5. Stalled and partially completed builds welcomed.

The GB badge- feel free to grab one as soon as you sign up.  I will host them for the length of the GB, after that- please save and host yourself.

I would like to get in on this if it's okay.

I've got six 262's that need to be put together and this group build should get me started. Wink [;)]

I've had this kit for years and would like to start off with her to hone my skills.

Oh I'm in.... I'll have to pick up some "building materials." ;)

Put me down for a 1/72 by academy for now... though that might change to a hasegawa depending on what I can find: Hell I might do both.

Right on!  Which version is that Academy kit?  As far as the Hasegawa kit, just say the word and I'll put it on there. Thumbs Up [tup]

That new A-1 kit they came out a couple of years ago.

What I'd really like to find is MPM Me-262 A-2a/U2; it has the glass nose for a bombardier position. I has the kit once when I was 14 or so but didn't have the skills to build it and made a mess of it. It would be sweet revenge if I could finish it.

Ugh.... Not sure how you do it but your the only one I know who can sucker me into doing somethingTongue [:P]

Alright I am in and I promise, there will be no foreseeable divorces in my future either!! lol Seriously though, I have been wanting to do another 262 for some time and have been brain storming since I built the A-2a..

So this what I am bringing to the dance..!!

Flaps up,

Mike

I've got the 1/72 Academy (A-1a) kit too... and a 1/72 Hasegawa B version.  I'll start with the Academy and if time I'll do the Haseagawa.  The Academy kit also has the option for the Me 262 C-1a... Hmmm...

Reporting for duty Captian!Pirate [oX)] Sign me up for the Tamiya 1/48 Me 262 A2a. I bought this kit almost 4 years ago and I just never managed to get it into the rotation somehow. I'm glad you went with the 262 theme Frank. It looks like we have some of the best people in here already. This is going to be a good GB!

Just when i think i am getting my GB addiction under control, you do this.

I won't confirm a kit yet until my other GB's are cleared and i know i can do it in time. But pencil me in. I have 3 262 kits all 1/72nd.

Kapitan Frank said: " I wonder how many different variants we'll see here?"

An Avia S-92 would have looked cool next to my S-199. But it didn't fly til 1948...Or a CS-92; to get even further into Bondoland.

The S-199

S-92

CS-92

I would probably have started with the Academy or Revell 1/72 A-1 or B-1; and used some Czech decals....

You just had to go and do it didn't you?Big Smile [:D]

Put me down for a 262, don't know what manufacturer or scale, but put me down for one.

Could always do the Revell 1/72 with the CMK conversion kit for the 50mm cannon, or maybe Heinz Bar's with the 6 30mm cannon. Yes  you did read correctly 6!Shock [:O]

Read about those the other day in the Squadron 262 In Action title.

See, I'm hooked already.

Hi Frank,

Getting excited about this already, thinking which scheme I'll shoot for, wondering about AMs... I passed on some decals on eBay just last week as two of the schemes were featured in the kit anyway. I might go with OOB, but we'll see.

I photographed the 262 in the museum at RAF Hendon in December 2006, she's not in A-1 condition but not bad either, and there's an engine displayed alongside. I'll scale the best shots and post them here for reference.

Oh, I just posted my Achtrads GB teaser thread on the Armor Forum -- let's see what kind of interest we get.

Cheers,

Mike

Karl- Heinz Bar had a 6-gun -262? Shock [:O]  I have never heard of that one.

Apparently very good for knocking down P-47s.

I noticed my LHS had the Matchbox 262 in their bargain pile the other day.

How masochistic am I feeling.........

......no just buy a decent kit, for once take the easy route.

Hi Karl,

As a matter of fact the Matchbox 262 was rather a good kit, I built one 27 years ago and fielded it as a paired entry with their huge Spitfire 24 in the 1982 Matchbox Model Master contest here in Aus -- won a lil trophy! I seem to remember it assembled quite well and looked the part when complete. I'm not saying it would hold up against Academy or Hasegawa, but for a few bucks it would be an interesting experience in airbrushing.

Cheers,

TB379

Mike, I remember building a few of these as a teenager, and enjoyed every one.

I might end up picking one up for Dave's weekend Madness GB rather than this one, but who knows?Big Smile [:D]

Oooo... now THAT would be cool!

Bondo, Hasegawa had a post war 1/72 scale release with the Czech markings which I believe is still easy to find.  Check here
