Looking good Sarge. I see you are doing some late night modeling agian and I am awake 2AM EST to be the first to see it agian. I got started tonight on the 2a. I sprayed all of the alluminum panels with some Talon alluminum and then I sprayed the interior parts blackgrey. It should be all nice and dry to start cutting and glueing tomorrow.

Wow I go to sleep and 262s start flying all over this thread.

Aaron-Great job on the splinter camo & the mottling. You should have this finished by Monday afternoon.

Bondo-Nice start. Where did you get your info for the wheel wells, hydro lines & wiring?

Okay, first WIP shots, as promised, of the Tamiya A-1a:

General subassemblies -- note some filler under the nacelles, I can't have used enough cya to join them, there was a hairline gap when I smoothed them off. One sanded, one to go. The wheel bay struts are in place, the exhaust flow cones assembled, smoothed and masked, and the cockpit and panel are done:

Photobucket" border="0" />

And a closeup on the pit:

Photobucket" border="0" />

The decals went down better than expected, with plenty of Microsol to pull them over the guages. The lenses were created with Testor Clear Parts Cement, though they don't show in this pic, and probably won't be very visible when the pit is closed up.

Next, some masking over the top of the pit and she can be blown into metallic along with the rest of the internal stuff, then the wings and engines can be assembled.

I'm ordering up the Eduard canopy masks shortly, and will need to source some open white crosses to replace the ones missing from the sheet -- this might be a good opportunity to try masking them.

Cheers, Mike/TB379

There is a lot of great work going on here. I can't wait for my bird to come in Friday so I can get started. They way things are going you guys will all be done before I even get started. Whistling [:-^]

I have to say I had every intention to do do some modeling last night but after a very long weekend of kids, kids stuff, and other choirs that needed to be completed by the time I sat down last night I just couldn't get motivated to do anything other then peruse the forum. Then I saw the progress sfcmac made and got a resurgence. I may not have my 262 yet but I pulled out my JU 52 MS, taped her up and applied the top coat of European Green.

Thanks for the motivation sfcmac

Aaron - Sheesch, your almost finished and Im stilll looking at reference pics.... The Mottle looks Fantastic, nice pattern of the colors .

T-Bolt - That Tamiya kit looks to be the biz, no wonder everyone is going for it. The office and I/P really looks good.

Dirk -  There are still plenty of us not started yet, and as for Aaron - I am sure he will hang around and build at least another Whistling [:-^]

After having a conversation with a forum member last night needed to brave the depts of the Tomb to look for a certain vintage kit. I grabbed my fedora , whip and headed  for the adventure.

Photobucket

Luckily I  had found the "certain kit" before I had the encounter the leaning towers of boxes.

While I was in there I stumbled upon a few different "flavors" of Me 262's

Photobucket

Im sure there may be others but no need to raise the eyebrows on "Teach" too much today as there is no school.. Another day ~ another adventure !

Mike, nice job on the Tam 262.

I always use the Tamiya & Hase decals on anything under 1/32, as they always work out well for me.

Summit, my LHS still has that Matchbox 262 in stock.

Tempting, but somehow I'm I'll sure resist.

Usually around December I always get on a Airfix or Matchbox theme and build up several of their kits. A little bit of  extra work sometimes but loads of fun.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Bondo, Love the extra goodies you added in the wheel wells.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Sarge, nice work on the mottle.  Hope to see finished pictures tonight, Wink [;)]

Jason, is it just me or does that Chenney cartoon bear a striking resemblence to Aaron! Shock [:O]

Mike, Great start on the Tamiya kit.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Sean, glad you were able to get what you needed and get out before your wife became concerned.  Laugh [(-D]

I spent the last day or so filling and sanding seams.  Painted the figures last night and this morning.  All they need is a wash and then I'll mask the canopy and fire up the airbrush.

I did give it some thought as the V5 prototype with fixed gear, but if I go down that route, I'll probably do the Pegasus 1/48 kit instead, as the weakest part of that kit is the landing gear,

Holy cow I almost missed Mike's TB379's Tamiya work! Been waiting to see one of those  to see how they stack up!  Probably not as good as the Airfix kit but sure looks nice! Your rally bringing out the detail Mike!

Aaron, that's some really nice work on the camo, both the splinter pattern and the mottling. I am stunned by the progress you've made - the quality of it does not suprise me though - great work as usual. Thumbs Up [tup]

Bondo, that's a lot of detail you're packing into that scale. Wonderful work so far! Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike (TB379), glad you're enjoying that Tamiya kit. They are gems, and you are bringing out all that detail nicely. Keep the pics comin'! Thumbs Up [tup]

I've been busy helping the wife get her new office up & runnin' now that the new work space is operational, but been trying to make some progress on the Trumpeter kit. Tweaked the engine a little and finally go the fuselage halves buttoned up. The landing gear is next. Here's where she stands so far. The metal paint is Alclad II aluminum, with some of it lightly overpainted with Tamiya clear yellow to vary the shade a bit.

Looking good Mike. I was unsure what color to paint the "onion" on the engine. I see you went with a dark metal color. That was my plan also. I do not have any books on the 262 or alot pics so I am reference challenged right now.Angry [:(!]

Hi Aaron,

Well, if there's a better one by Airfix I must be dreaming... Oh, that was sarcasm? Big Smile [:D] Seriously, the only thing I remember the old Airfix 72 having that this one doesn't was hinged inboard flaps.

Ruddrat -- the detail in the Trumpeter kit is astounding, it makes one consider saving up real hard!

Next job will be some metallics, which means mask the mating surfaces inside the fuselage. With a bit of luck I might be prepping the intakes and exhausts as well.

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Aaron: Thanks for the pics of the Monogram kit. It still looks decent too. And your 262 is looking good. The paint is great! Love the splinter pattern on the wings and the motteling on the fuselage.

Dave: The B-1a/U1 is looking very nice. I am just curious, are you only putting two long-barreled MK108s in the nose?

Karl: Very intersting. I never knew there was a fixed tricycle geared 262 between the tail-sitters and the retractable tricycle gear.

Bondo: The pit and gear bays looks great. It seems odd that Hasegawa would use a B-1a pit for a single seat version though.

Guy: Thanks for the recommendation on the literature. I am without a very good reference for the 262 and might have to pick that up.

Mike/TB379: Your pit looks very nice as well. The decals seemed to have gone down very nicely.

Mike/ruddratt: Great work on the engine and gear bay. The colors you chose look great!

Frank: That is one tiny 262! Shock [:O] Looks like a prize from a box of Cracker Jack! How in the world are you going to mask that thing? It is amazing how much detail they can pack into such a small kit though.

Frank - I have broken sprue on the Monogram 1/48 kit. Im going to build it first to annoy Aaron. The Revell 1/32 "A" is still in the planning stages (read as hiding from the razor saw) The Revell 1/32 "B" is now in Aarons hands... So you might update your page when you have a chance.

Well all the decals are on! WHew ! The kit may be old but the decals are nice!  No setting solution needed or silvering to be seen even with all the excess carrier film on the balkenkruezies.  Lots of stenciling though as Hasegawa must have really updated the decal sheet (if nothing else)  Now that B 2 seater night fighter version is from 1974 and Mike said this one is pushing 40 years so I must be a glutton for punishment!  Two 1/32 scale 262's and not the trumpeter kit like Ruddratt's!

Man his looks really nice!  All that detail I wish I hadn't seen so well painted wow!  Is all that just OOB?

When things dry I am going to work on what I call the Frankmeisterburger finish abbreviated. Another good coat of future to seal and cover the decals then a final flat coat.  Abbrievated cuz of the time taken. Things dry much slower in Wiconsin! I blame it on the mustard fumes in the air mixing with the cheese smells and beer vapors!  Although it makes for some of the best finishes I have ever seen!

WOW!  There really is some awesome work going on here already.  I am humbled by the talents and camaradiere here.  You gents are the best of the best.  I am having a ball just sitting here watching all of you. Bow [bow]

Brendan- Thanks mate!  Sure is tiny, gonna have a tough time with the subtle mottle finish on this little guy.

Sean- Right!  Page one has been updated. Approve [^]

Aaron- LOL, you're a nut!   Those mustard fumes and beer vapors don't help the finish much, but they do keep the painter in top form. Dunce [D)]  Lovely work, now where's my pics of the decals on? Grumpy [|(]

Oh it's old fashioned kit engineering. The rear canopy for the single seat version includes a bunch of rear fuselage, and there's a filler piece goes in behind the seat on the interior.

Guess what I forgot to put in the nose before I sealed it up?Dunce [D)]! Maybe if I run in a bunch of white glue, followed by sand...Sigh [sigh]

In response to another question abt where I got the well details, I used a nice photo from the one that has been recreated. Hey, it's post war, right?

Frank: I wish you luck with a mottle finish on that! Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup] I would never dream of doing a finish like that on a 1/144 262. I think it is hard enough to pull off a decent one in 1/48.

Bondo: That is kind of strange but if you never see the extension, who knows its there? Unless they have ever built the Hasegawa kit. The Revell is the total opposite though. It gives you two single seat pits with different IPs and such to make the two seat pit.

Alright guys, I just placed an order for some more 262-mania items! Now if I finish my 1/72 Revell B-1a/U1 quick, I might be able to add one, or two, or three more builds. Better get crackin'. Tongue [:P]

Cut yerself some paper and white glue Bondo it's flexible enough to fit in and then paint so no one would be the wiser!

3 Warhammer! Man you got the bug!

Ok Pics of the decals cuz Frank demanded them! Had to let the future dry enough to take some pics.

Just 2 for now as I am still letting her dry!  Can't rush the Frankenburgerieish paint finish eh?

On the scratch side. Ruddratts  detailing pics made me realize I had totally neglcted the whell wells whatever they are?

Made some simple paper frames and white glued them together .  Flexable enough to push inside and easy enough to trom when the glue dries.  add a frw wires and details that I can reach and will have to call that ok. Better than nuttin.

Just like the Old Goose I build. When painted a few rivits with a pin or sharp Hobby knife after painting can give a simple yet convincing framework in a dark hidden but visable area!

There ya go Frank. Where are your piccies>Mischief [:-,]Laugh [(-D]

Definitely like what I am seeing here...!!

Mike/TB379,

I am really liking what I am seeing with your build.. I too am doing the same exact 262 for the build.

The over all kit is fantastic esecially the pit.. Even more so I like the decal for the IP. Do you know what markings you will be putting her in?

Hey ruddratt,

Um ya ok I am totally drooling over your engine and attention to it's detail. Ah so you used alclad for the over all colour with the yellow as a tint.. Very interesting... I am thinking of exposing one engine on my 48th A1-a but I am not to sure yet.. But after seeing yours, I am begining to brainstorm..(Can't you see the smoke or at least hear the sirens?)

Have any pix of the interior?

Aaron,

Long time no chat... I see your right on track with your build.. I have to agree with Randy, I really like how the paint job turned out.

Alright Frank, I have a question on whether or not to use Aires PE IP or go the stock and use the kits with the sa-weet decal..

Not to sure in what I want to do.. Just checked out my previous 262 build and you can see the IP rather well.. However the decal looks good as well.

I think what it boils down to is the work.. lol What do you think bro? And yes, I have begun the build.. Got a few ideas up my sleeve so stay tuned!!

 Flaps up,

Mike
