John - The B-1 is such a cool plane! I can't wait to see your progress.

I noticed that your kit comes with alot of cool nose art. Here's a picture of the nose art from the B-1 that frequents our air show here...

Looks like I'll be building this monster...

I hope you folks realize that the box art is not the only painting option!

Wow you're already on the piece, John.

It appears I'll have a 1/72 Mitchell in my future.
I was thinging about making a "cut-away" model to show the interior ... let's see if I can find a decent way to do it.

I opened the Airfix B-1B box and cut some of the larger pieces from the sprue

I'm thinking of glueing the top and bottom halves of the wings together first and then airbrushing the camouflage scheme before fitting the wings to the fuselage .

Airfix list Humbrol paints in their instructions ; I usually airbrush with Gunze acrylics ,

Humbrol 66 = Gunze H-78 Olive Drab 2

               32 = Gunze H-301 [FS.3601]

              125 = Gunze H-305 [FS.36118]

              53 = Gunze 78 Burnt Iron [exhaust]

Are these the correct colors for the camouflage scheme B-1B Bone ?

There's lots of options on the decal sheet

I like the "Lucky Lady" decals from the 96th Bombardment Wing , Dyess AFB , Texas 1988

I found some additional info in my aircraft magazines ,

The B-1B seats a crew of four bt airfix only supply the front cockpit section with a pilot and co-pilot .

The camouflage patten on the underside of the B-1B in the last pic seems to match what's in airfix's instructions , so I think the overall patten should be close to what was on the real bird .

Thikn yourself lucky, i have to figure out how to convedrt a J to an H Censored

I plan on trying to build the top 3 kits in order. I try to stick to one kit at a time but then as i build Dios i can work on the base and figures while i am letting things dry. But for the sack of getting my GB list cleared, i haven't been doing the dio's lately, and might just try 2 at a time.

Paul's correct, as long as the #1 most-voted kit is started everything after that is just gravy.  Building the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. in the vote order certainly meets the spirit of the GB more throughly.

Gamera

BTW: does everything have to be directly in order? I tend to work on several models at a time, say a Second World War aircraft, a modern jet, and a tank etc. My top six models were all aircraft/spacecraft. Um, may I skip down to my top AFV - the Aussie Centurian and bump it up beside the Reliant and P-47 so I'm not entirely doing flying stuff at one time?

I think as long as the top voted kit is being built then everything is ok, it doesn't matter what else you choose to build alongside it.

Personally I will have the top voted kit (1/48 ACH-47A) on the bench alongside a 1/72 CF-18A and the 1/700 IJN Shinano. Once the CF-18A is done then I will put one of the 3 tied runners ups on the bench. i tried having one kit on the bench at a time - it didn't work. When I found myself waiting for things to dry or set and would pull out a random kit and start test fitting and putting it together.

And this one for so simple even I couldn't screw it up!!!

I think....Wink

Pulled out the Reliant and the P-47, popped the boxes open and started devising a plan of attack. Have New Year's Day off and with the long weekend should be able to push some stuff off the work bench and get started soon.

TIE BREAKER VOTING REQUIRED

I have closed the polls, but there were 2 ties this year.  Tie breaker pols have been created for 'BALTA1' and 'Got Hinomaru?'.  Please go back to the vote system ASAP and conduct final voting for these two gentlemen.

Yes, progress photos are posted in the GB thread.

I'll be posting progress photos on this site and on Kenny's forum since he is hosting this GB across both forums.

I'm not surprised the E-2C Hawkeye won, but I am surprised by how close it was.  Only 1 vote over the A-10!  Those two kits and the third highest, Tornado F.3, I have been wanting to build for awhile so I'm quite happy with the voting.  Won't be able to start for awhile, but that's okay.

Happy New Year everyone.  Here's to 2010. Toast

I'm surprised at how close the group selection is to what I was thinking about.  I was trying to decide between the P-3C Orion and the F7U-3M Cutlass and now it is decided with the F7U-3M winning out.  That airplane has always been a favorite of mine just because it is a really neat looking aircraft.  When I was a kid there was a F7U at the local park/playgorund by where I lived in Jacksonville Beach, Fl. and we used to play on it all the time.  I picked up the EA-6A at the local IPMS convention, SYRCON, in October.  Looks like a real nice kit with fine detail and dry fit says it will fit good.  I plan to build all three this year and the sequence the group selected.

I was thinking about doing the silver finish on the F7U because I've never done a silver finish and to practice for building 3 Anigrand models, C-124C, C-141A and C-133A, of aircraft that I used to work on when I was in the air force.  After looking a lot of finished F7U Models on the internet I like the grey ones better.  Oh well, more decisions.

I'm looking forward to the build and seeing what everyone else is doing.  I'm wondering if we post progress photos here or somewhere else?

Happy new year to everone.

John

I just looked at my results. I admit I am rather surprised. I never thought the Hokum would be tied for first and I was positive the Vultee would get a lot more votes due to the awsome nose art. And what's with zero votes for the Tabby? Well I have been looking forward to building that A37 for some time now so I'm set to get too it. Uh, assuming it wins the tiebreaker that is. ( insert old style "wink" here) I'm just glad that the Ho-Ni didn't win. I do have 4 tanks and 2 trucks in the stash but I just don't build targets. I threw it in cause I couldn't decide on one more aircraft. Thank you Murphy for passing me by this time.

I'm looking forward to building the Airfix B-1 Bomber .

I'm also reasonably confident about the second and third builds , I moved some finish aircraft models around and into other cabinets , leaving me a nice clear space on the bottom shelf and base  for at least the top three choices .

So I shouldn't have any excuse's for not finishing anything .

I'm a modeler. Do you actually think I READ the directions on anything??? Tongue Tied

Anyway again, sorry. And I won't make the same mistake again. And you can believe that, I seldom make the same mistake twice- I'm so creative I'm instead finding totally new ways to screw-up Embarrassed

Guys, just let me know if we need a tie-breaker vote- I'll try not to screw it up. And if Kenny wants to cast the deciding votes it's good by me. I only ended up with one tie for third place here.

I'll admit to being a little surpised to having the Reliant end up at the top of my list. I just stuck it on there to keep everything from being aircraft and armour. I did buy over fifty bucks of fiber optic cable and LEDs for it and then while waiting for that to get here started on another kit and the Reliant ended up stuffed in the closet with the parts and forgotten. Finally I have a good solid excuse to make me build her.

Well i haven't built a ship in years, and then it was one of those cheap Airfix ones, though i did once do a Revell U-Boat that turned out ok. But i have been thinking about another ship kit, maybe the Italeri 1/35 Schnellboot or a 1/72nd Revell U-Boat.

I was betting that i would be building the Panzerwerfer 42, but the top 4 in mine are all aircraft. O well, mine wingy stash is alot bigger than my armour one, will be a chance to even them out.

I'm actually looking forward to building the Schnellboot though I would have preferred the Tiger I. But that's what its all about isn't it, to build something that everyone else would like to see. I am so thankful that it wasn't one of those wingy things! Don't get me wrong, I love to see them built up by guys that know what they're doing and there are some really cool looking ones on this GB that are going to be built. I just haven't built one in a long time and then it was crap.

Its you and gamera that have only have 23 votes. I'm not sure if admin can see who has missed you out and give them a prompt. But one vote wouldn't make a difference on his top 3 anyway. I am really glad yur Schnellboot is the winner, looking forward to seeing that.

I just checked mine and have 23 votes. The missing votes on mine won't make any difference as the Schnellboot is a clear winner. The second and third place might change on the 2 missing votes though. Is Bondoman still in? There was a thread in odds and ends that said he was leaving this site. I hope he stays with the Group Build, he had some nice choices in his list and he does some very nice work.

For some reason I could not vote for Balta1.  Not sure what happened, I did get my votes for the others.

My vote is for

1. x -wing

2. b58 Hustler

3. jaguar t.2

He does have the same amount of votes than the rest, 24. There was a period yesterday when he had one more than the rest, was for a few hours. Is it possible you voted for him on an earlier visit. Either that or somone has voted for him and no-one else.

Got Hinomaru?

Shouldn't a tie be decided by the person who is actually going to have to build the thing picking the one he likes best?

Nope, since the entire point behind this GB is not having the builder pick the build.  It's up to the rest of the GB group.

IL usually knocks together the tie-breaker vote table quickly if needed.  Of course, the tie-breaker vote has ended in another tie before, in which case Kenny picks one and that's that.

Getting very close now.

Cheers

Hello fellow stash builders!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I tossed in my vote last night. Shouldn't a tie be decided by the person who is actually going to have to build the thing picking the one he likes best? So far it's been fun watching the votes come in and seeing what kits are floating to the top. I havn't looked at mine yet to keep it a surprise but some of the voting has been very close. Just 1 more day and we can get to it, which is good cause I need to clear out some space for all the kits I got for Christmas......... ( insert old style "Big Smile" here)
