I came across a number of different profiles of this 109 when I was researching it, some with the yellow wingtips/lower rudder and some without. One source said that the inconsistencies in markings on the rudder were down to it being replaced a number of times during his career..

I suppose I just settled on one and went with that. The rudder on the kit is yellow, but I went a little too heavy on the stippling there!

Got my 109 E-3 all done!  Its my first Luftwaffe aircraft in over two years.  Now that the plane's done, need to work on the small diorama I have planned for it, hence all the oil streaks and such.

First two are shots from the top the last one is the bottom showing some of the weathering for the diorama

Well I got some more work done on the Lysander. The kit shows aluminum under the wings but everything I found shows a Sky underside on Lysanders by mid 1940 so that is what I did. The wings are supported by the canopy which made for an interesting assembly. I'll finish the gloss coat then on to the decals. Although a little fussy due to the wing assembly this has gone together well. 

Looking good Aaron!!! Is that the old Matchbox kit? I had that one once and from what I remember of it yes it did fit rather well.

B-17- wow the Bf-109 is perfect! I love the weathering on her undersides, looking for to seeing her in the diorama.

Yep, it's the Matchbox kit, now in a Revell box so no funny colored plastic. I got the decals on last night, and they went down very easily, much less trouble than 20 year old Matchbox decals.

I don't recall seeing a kit from Eduard but for such an odd plane it certainly has had a good deal of attention from kit makers, I've seen multiple kits in 1/72 and 1/48, and there was at least one done in 1/32.  

Anyone here know if the 1/72 Revell/Germany Ju88 A4 is marked for the BoB?

Happen to have that kit in my stash and taking a look at the decals/ instructions im afraid i cant tell you anything other than that it provides markings for one A4 and one D1 without any unit information. The A4 is marked 9K+DS with yellow fuselage bands and standard splinter camo.... thats just about it. Sorry.

I know some are doing very specific aircraft but if the type was used and the camo scheme is appropriate how many of us would really know if the decals are correct. 

That's basically what I did with the Lysander, it came with decals for a Lysander from 16th Squadron used in France, during 1940. It just happened that I got lucky and the same unit used Lysanders in England patrolling the channel during the Battle of Britain. I used the decals but updated the paint scheme to what an hour of googling said was appropriate for mid to late 1940. It may not be 100% accurate but it should be somewhat close, however if it isn't I'll leave the research to prove it for someone else.

I got the new Dragon Ju-88A-4 with the Ground crew for this GB and have the same problem.  It would appear that the A-4 was in limited use during the battle time period, making one raid of note in the north of England, but the common Ju- 88's in use were A-3's with a shorter span wing, I think just squared wing tips but not sure of all the differences.  Don't know of an A-3 kit, either.  Gonna build it anyway.

Edit:  Read A-0 and A-1 for A-3.

I looked in the William Green book, Warplanes of the Third Reich, and his take is the A-0, A-1, A-5 and A-6 Ju88's were in use as well as the limited use of the A-4 during the Battle of Britain.  The A-0 and A-1 were the main types used with the short wing span, the A-5 was an interim A-4 with the 5 foot longer span wing and metal covered instead of fabric covered ailerons.  The A-6 was an A-5 with balloon cutter gear, then the A-4 went into production with higher powered Jumo engines.   I didn't see any reference to external changes in the nacelles from the A-0 to the A-4.   It looks like the A-0 and A-1 had an aft cockpit greenhouse with one gun mount in the round rotating window, the A-4 had an enlarged rear green house with two of the round window gun mounts.  My Dragon kit has both of these options.  The A-5 and A-6, according to Green's 3 views, had a two gun mount there but it was different, not in the round window mount.  The three views are below, you figure it out.  I'm going to compare the wings in a cad program, but it looks like a simple A-4 to A-1 wing conversion so far.

The Squadron in action book Ju-88,  Part 1, has a lot of good detail in photos and drawings of the different greenhouses and gun mounts.  Lots of guesses on any one airplane, it seems.

Thanks for the responses guys.  I'll probably pick her up when I go back for the exterior paint for my E-3.  Don't normally build Axis a/c and hate to have paint just lying around.  Should have the decks cleared and construction underway after I get off work this evening.

Hey fellas, a quick update on my Do-24, I have some progress pics but the build is almost done, just a few touchups to do and its finished. Im just a bit behind in the photos due to camera trouble but should have finished pics up soon. Decals  are complete and weathering is almost finished, Im going to make this one a lot worn and torn and well used. I have brought the major sub-assemblies together now also.

I have finished two Hurricanes (which I redid and finished after discovering them with chips in the original paint).  Both of them represent aircraft from 310 Squadron.

Hurricane NN-A was piloted by S/Ldr Alexander Hess, according to the decal sheet, on "31. srpna 1940."  I don't read Czech, so I don't know what that means.  The decals were made by "MPD," Mini Print Decals," and have been kicking around for about 4 years.  On 31 August, 1940, he was credited with downing a Bf109 and a Do 17 in one mission.

Hurricane NN-D was flown by several pilots, including Bohumil Furst, also a Czech, who gained two kills and one probable while flying the aircraft.  NN-D was lost on 16 October, 1940, when it caught fire during a night flight.  The pilot, not Furst, was killed.  The decals were made by ExtraTech, and were a little troublesome and reluctant to settle down and conform.  Some silvering happened.

The models are both Airfix, but two different versions.  NN-D was covered with hundreds of raised rivets, and was boxed as a Mk I/II.  It came with optional rockets, drop tanks, etc, and was the more fussy to build.  NN-A was simpler and seems sturdier when built.

I photographed them on an RAF flag.

I still have a Mk I Spitfire to finish.  Painting was completed today, so decaling is up.  I was originally going to do markings for 610 Squadron, then found a decal set for 19 Squadron (QV-K).  Since there were photo references for this plane and pilot on the net, that's how I plan to finish it.

The Lysander is finished, overall a very pleasant kit to build.

Nice work, Aaron.  The photos made me realize something about the Lysander-it's a Stinson on steroids.  I knew there was something familiar about it.

Its been a long break due to some serious medical issues but I'm back and after spending the last two hours catching up what can I say...

Well after a long break from modeling (around 4 months I think) the missus told me by a new easy to build kit so I get back into the swing of things. So I settled on Tamiya's Bf 109 E3 since I was never happy with Academy kit I orginally fwd for this build and end date is comming up I thought perfect.

So Darren Please Change my Build from Academy 1/72 109 to Tamiya 1/48 Bf 109 E3

Bring to one dilemma...

Markings will be fudged some. I've always wanted to do a yellow nosed  '109 and by the letter the kit doesnt do it, but it does do Gallands bird while he was in JG26, and I know other JG26 E3's did have yellow noses so I'll try and replicate the one of these as best I can with decals provided. But can anybody tell me why tamiya never thought to Black "S" on a shield for jg 26 since it was their emblem?

Since I got this as an easy build I dont know yet if I'll do anything beyong OOB

Started on Bar's E-3.  For those of you who have the ICM 109E-3 kit in the stash, be prepared for lots of parts clean up.  Nothing pic worthy yet.
