As far as I can tell the He-176 was flow with an open cockpit. That may be strange for us but at the time closed cockpit where stil a novelty.

Anyway, het is the progress of the weekend:

the Komet, coated red, futered and decalled:

And the He-176:

With a coat over silver and masking, the silver is GW Mythril Silver, Future and alcohol.

Without masking, taleplane came loose and two pieces of PE:

And with the damage repaired:

True, good luck with the move. Was there any verdict on the canopy for your kit? Like i said, just seems weird to have an open cockpit on a rocket powered aircraft.

Looking good there Borg!!!! Your phone pics look fine to me!!! Toast Don't know when I will get to my 163. Don't really feel like building the carrier tractor thingy, but who knows. Good conversation piece! Have committed to a few more GB's that end before this one will. So I might just get started and if you don't see progress pics for awhile , you'll know why lol.

I started painting. Both aircraft have been given a coat of RLM 2 (Tamiya 22). I have lightned this a bit for scale effect.

The He -176 will have RLM 2 wings and tailplane, so this wil be masked. To mask the cackpit I used some tissue paper, coated with some thinned PVA glue.

The RLM 2 coat on the Komet serves as a base coat and as the interior color on the clear parts. I used an Eduard masking set on the Komet, real easy to use. It saved me a lot of time.

Here you can see the backdated airintake.

I have shot the last two series of photo's with my Iphone and used a Photobucket app to directly transfer them to Internet. Although the quality is a bit lower it saves me time and I do not have to worry about the batteries of my camera (which are always dead when I want to use my camera, causing a lot of frustration) So I think I wil be using that option more often for WIP pics.

Here are some more in progress pics.

I have been busy backdating the Academy me- 163 B-1 kit to a B-0 (pre-production) Komet.

Shortened the inner ailerons.

Added airscoops.

With canopy

And I filled the seams on the He-176

Thanks for your positive comments.

The He-176 did not have (or not always have) a closed canopy. Very little is known of the aircraft, only one photograph excists of it. It shape has been unclear for years, until that one pic surfaced.

Here is a pic of the he-176

Here is what everybodu thought it looked like.

Looking good Borg! Yes  The 176 doesn't have a canopy or you're just leaving it off?

Here are some pics of my recent progress:

The cockpit of the Me-163: With the canopy closed it is going to look ok, the seatbelts add enough, no need for all sorts of other AM stuf:

Side view of the Me-163: You can see a tiny ejector hole in the landing gear that I filled with Tippex. I am going to add an airscoop near the exhaust that was typical for the early production run (B-0 series):

Front view of the He-176: since this is a short run kit it required some test fitting and sanding to get the correct dihidral:

Top view He-176: even with the test fitting, the wing root joint is not perfect at the left wing. Nothing mayor, a little mr. Sufacer 500 will fill this small gap.

the cockpit of the he-176: the pic is a bit blurred but because the He-176 has no canopy it is neccesary to dress up the cockpit.

Overall view of the He-176: a lott of weight is going to be behind the main wheels. And I forgot to put weigth in the front (but there almost no room) Luckily, this was the same in the real aircraft and it was fitted with both front and rear wheels: http://www.luft46.com/prototyp/he176.html

Hate when that happens!!! Glad it's not  a REALLY big issue such as after the fuse is closed!!!! That is the Academy 1/72 right? If so are you building the single or double scoop?

Yes, it is not a big issue, just a minor inconvience.

It is indeed the Academy kit, I wil build it as a single seat Me-163 V14. The V14 version is a little different then the standard B1. It had 20mm cannons which protrude from the wings, different hatches and ailerons. So I will have to make two gun barrels and do some filling and rescribing.

I have had a minor set back. Due to the PE seatbelt the seat of the Komet won't fit. I tried cutting the seatbelt but because it is steel the whole thing came loose. So I have to reglue and repaint...annoying!

I will post some more pics shortly.

I have used generic PE seatbelts on the me_163 and an Eduard masking set.

The Schlepper is almost finshed:

My build is going ok. I have separted and glued some parts for the interior and painted the whole interior with RLM 22 (that beeing the german prototype volor and both aircraft beeing prototypes I thought this would be more appropiate then RLM 66)

Next are the details and some light washes. I have a stay-home vacation for the next two weeks I think I will be able to build and post some pics.

The badge is good, it is the classic Komet rush to the sky...."wie ein floh aber oh oh oh"!

And I like the fact that there is one badge, that wil make it more recognisable.
