Making good progress and she's lookin' great. Yes  I like the orange/red color

I see a little T-6 in the left of your photos. Are you working on them at the same time? I would like to see the Texan too when you are finished with it.

Hi All - Long time, No post! I've been very busy outside the modeling world the last few weeks. I am still in this build though, my Natter is sitting on my bench just waiting for a little glue...

I haven't decided if I will have it on the launch tower or if I will have it in a maintenance setting. Having never done PE before, the PE on the engine looks a little less daunting than the PE on the tower so I may go the maintenance route. We shall see.

Mikey and Jeremy, very nice beginnings! I am looking forward to seeing these progress.

BTW, nice looking badge! I will have to load it onto my photobucket account and start displaying it!

Ok, photos as promised. So far the only filler ive used on this is thick paint. A few seams needed to be filed back. I had to cut the locator pics off because they were useless and ended up making it a bit wonky.

Flash washed this photo out a bit. sorry. Ill have to fill the forward hole in the fuselage because this is for the gun pod slung underneath but because im doing an aerobatic version ill be putting the centerline fuel tank on.

Hard to see. but its all black down there with drybrushed silver to pick out the high points.

In the process of making some seatbelts for it. seat was a little spartan so im just using some making tape to make some belts.

If you make this one bigger you can see the detail on the control panel. Just a bluey green drybrushed black to pick out the instruments.

This was the biggest gap. you can just see it at the front of the vertical fin.

Other big gap, sorry washed out again. was just along the base of the ventral fin. filled with white glue and tidied up.

So shes coming along rather quickly. i look at some of the pics and notice mistakes here and there. but itle be ok. Working on the fiddly bits now. so frustrating. Especially since everything is just not quite fitting flush. Hopefully i can get the main construction finished this weekend. But ive got a flat inspection on tuesday so things might go a bit slow for a few days.

Almost forgot this one. this shows the paint scheme ill be using.

Ill be using the markings for 76. But i was thinking of raiding some of my other kits to create a new Rego for it. Skyhaws were 62 (NZ6201 etc) Machis were 64 i think. so im thinking of using 78 (NZ7876) well see what happens

good idea. thanks. just looking at it i might go up from the leading edges of the horizontal stabilizers up to the spinal hump. and then do the whole spine red along with the vertical stabiliser. photos of my current progress shortly.

Paintshop? whats that? do you mean photoshop? i cant get my head around that. too confusing.

Scorpiomikey

Shes all assembled. just tidying a few gaps up. Ill post pics this weekend. Still trying to work out where the red should start on the tail because the harvards start under the rear of the cockpit. but if i do that with this bird itle all be red. so im thinking Ill start it at the trailing edge of the wings.

Or maybe the start of the leading edges of the horiz. stabs??? I would put a scanned side view or something into paint shop and see what looks the best. 2 cents BTW thanks for the PM Mikey, won't start till after the middle of next month probably.

Hey Mikey... I've been a little busy but I promised some pics of the progress up 'till now. Not much but here it is...

If you remember, I fixed the shape of the rear fuselage with alot of sanding and shaping.

Hard to see from this view but the corrected half is on the left.

With both sides finished, I hollowed out the rear. Like many planes of the era, the XF-91 had the engine tailpipe in the fuselage surrounded by the outer sheet metal.

And from what I can tell, the F-84 tailpipe should be about the right size and look to use as the J-47. If not, we'll always think that it should have been. Wink

I just need to figure out how I want to mount it in the fuselage and add some internal framework. Everything is rather rough right now but it will all come together eventually. Yes

The Natter would be a cool build! Doesn't the Dragon kit include the launch tower?

Sweet, im happy to put you in with the Natter and the X-15 but for the TA-183 youd need to put the optional RATO pods on. Otherwise sweet as, send me the details on your kits and ill put you up on the list

nice work so far, I just found this GB!

would like to join if possible, even though won't be able to start building for a bit. Candidates are the Tamiya 1:48 TA183A W/Kettenkraftrad, the Dragon Natter, or go 'modern" with the Revell X-15 oldie.  Will figure it out down the road ;)

I'm stalled at the moment while I try to figure out how to mount an engine. Doing my homework and comparing exhaust opening sizes, I'm pretty confident that I can use the tailpipe that came with the F-84 kit. I've been real busy these last couple of weeks but hopefully I can get some progress pics up sometime this week.

Well, she drew first blood, managed to slice my thumb open and paint the exhaust peices blood red. 2 reasons for this, 1. im an idiot, 2. i should have spent more time getting used to the plastic before i started cutting TOWARDS myself *facepalm*Bang Head

ok i started the mig this morning, this is what ive got to work with.

The plastics odd, its hard enough that the knife takes a bit of effort to cut through, but its soft enough that if i try and scrape a seam it just peels goes all weird.

This is where im up to so far. the cockpit colour is slightly off but i dont think many people would see it lol.

Ill have more updates tommorow
