When it comes to AC I might be a Me-109G/K fan, but this GB has made me quite eager to build one of those FW-190. I'v got a D-9 from Academy in my stash, maybe I'll join if I may. And can get time to finish my current build  (I newer build more than one model at a time).

What do you say? Should I stop lurking around and join?

Guy- See?  I knew it would have some stickers on it sometime today.  I agree with your assessment of Eduard's decals- the best I have ever used!  The teeny tiny ones on my lil' 262 were a dream to put on, even the yellow fuselage bands went on perfectly.  Bummer about those legs, they really do look awful in the photo.  Hopefully, you'll have better luck getting some than I did with a similar problem on my Hasegawa Hurricane.  Contacted them in 2008, and they were looking into it.  I'm still waiting...

Carl- By all means, join the fun!  Say the word, and I'll add that kit and your name to the roster!  Most of us do not bite, 'cept for bondo.  Keep yer mitts off of his mug, and you'll prolly be OK.

Guy, Dora looks great, cept for them seam lines on her legs. Could almost pass for brake lines. Just opened the Tamiya kit and even the instructions show the seam line running across the wing root MG covers. I'd have missed that one for sure, thanks. Best of luck tomorrow.

Guy, stunning work on the Dora. As always.

Those seam lines look like a pig though.

Itching to start my Tamiya D-9 but at least another 2 builds to do first.

Well football was off today, due to some tornament that noone was informed of..Nice. But what that meant was i had a good morning at the bench. I looked in my Eduard 190A box at the U/C legs in there. Must say they wernt pretty either but mucho bettero than the Dora's..So, shes now standing on her own 2 feet. Still a few more odds and ends to finish up but the finishing line is deffo in sight,

Sidure, SC and Guy---You are all moving ahead with some real nice work.  Thanks for the inspiration.  I will be saving Guy's paint on photos as a guide when I get there on the Ta152.

Finally I have made some real progress!  The lower wing is on.  I went with a resin upgrade and it really kicked my a**.  I even picked up a Hasegawa FW190A-5 in case I couldn't figure out the Ta152.

After I had the Jumo 213 and the 30mm MK 108 attached to the framing I tried a dry fit into the fusalge and after the assembly went in it was never coming out in one piece. Tongue Tied  It wedged between the two exhaust manifolds.  Thus no photos of the engine, cannon, frame puzzle.  I have also broken off a half dozen or so little bits from the framing and in the wells that I had to replace with styrene rod and some PE scrap. Confused  Today was good though.  FedEx guy delivered some microballoons and the little mites were just the thing for filling big holes and gaps in the wingroots.  Got some Alcad primer on too.   Big Smile

Here are two shots of the wheel wells.

Now comes another real challenge, surgery to the PCM upper wing to fit the configuration below.

Nice progress Clebode. That is not an easy kit to build and you are doing a fine job so far.

I am on about step ten of twenty in the painting sequence on my 190. I choses the craziest paint scheme and I have used enough masking tape to tie up a couple of hostages already! I can already see the colors are really going to make this 190 really cool. I have been airbrushing for the last two nights and I am about halfway done laying down paint. More painting in a bit. I got al of my killing done on Call of Duty MW2 already so I'm good to go!

Been at the bench on and off all day airbrushing. Still only 75% done! I have to mask the tail to spray it all yellow and I have to mask the black part of the tailband. I'm gonna wait till everything dries and mask them tomorrow. I do'nt think I have done this much airbrushing in the last couple of days ever! Man my hands tired.

Clebode- Very, very clean work- coming along very well indeed!

Crusher- All of your hard work is paying dividends, that paint work is astonishing!  Mottle looks PERFECT, well done!

I worked on my kit this evening, finishing up the sanding and rescribing on the wing.  It's done now, time to add it up to the fuselage and then it will start looking like a 190!

Thanks Frank. There are a couple of ugly spots but so much of the fuselage is going to be covered up with the doubl;e tailband painted out markings and then the cross and plane number it should break it all up. Oh and of corse the entire tail is going to be yellow with only a small patch of camo for the swastika. I can't wait till all of the painting is done and see how cool it looks with the NMF on the undersides of the wings!

Frank, SC thanks for the encouragement.  SC I agree with Frank, great camo job.

I got over confident last night.  After dropping the elevators went off without a hitch I decided to tackle the wing surgery.  Unfortunately I confused the lower half with the upper and took out a small piece on the leading edge before I realized the mistake.  Bang Head

Really learning a lot about the 190 and all its variants in this thread. Can't wait to get my current project finished so I can tie into the Edward F-8!

Clebode Do'nt wory about it. Nothing some superglue and sanding can't fix.

Guy here is the colorplate. I am building black "10" It has a non standard painted underside/fuselage color of RLM 84 grayblue. The back half of the wings are NMF underneath and the front half of the underwing is painted grayviolet. Here is the plate.

Thanks Ritchie. I am looking foward to unmasking everything with all of these crazy colors just to see how it looks too!

SC ---You are right of course but I have been supergluing and sandling forever on this baby.  Don't forget the microballoons!

Guy--The base kit is the Pacific Coast Ta152H-1.  Frank suggested an AM caster named Jerry Rutman because the PM kit reproduced the BMW power of the Fw190 D series and JR had cast the accurate Jumo 213 used inthe TA152.   Little did I know you really can't see much of the the powerplant without fiber optics. The resin is from JR and I must say the wheel wells were much better than PC's.  JR's main spar is prettly nice too.  The JR prop blades and spinner also look better.  The 20mm 151s are AM from JB Models.

Can you give me a lead on where to obtain spinner spiral masks?

Clebode the best way to paint thoses PIA spiral spinners is to cut very thin strips of Tamiya masking tape. Start by painting the spinner white first. Then mask the white area with the thin strips of tape until you get it to look the way you want. When you do it like this you can keep adjusting it until it looks right to your eye then just spray the bleck and you are good to go! Make sure you only use Tamiya tape due to its ability to stretch around the curves and stretch a bit. Very thin strips is the only way to go. Forget the spiral decals they are next to useless because they are flat and the spinner is round. It just does'nt work 90% of the time unless you are Frank and have his majical powers!:wizard:

He speaks the truth you know. Frank does have those mystical powers with the spinner decals. Crushers way is great and fairly easy to do, but ill use Eduards spiral masks from now on. They rule and reproduce the curly bit in the centre superbly,

Hey Everyone!  I have enjoyed watching everyones build. I have learned alot in this GB from Aircraft colors kit problems, and finaly I have WIP pics to share I started on the Ta152 engine. This is a dragon kit and building the engine so far is like building a kit within a kit. Nice detail but parts dont fit well. Hope you all enjoy. Big Smile

Nomad, nice work on the engine mateYes I'm definatly looking forward to following your build progress......Yeah what is it with Dragon? Apparently their armour kits are first class but everytime i've touched one of their ac kits it has major fit issues.....

Nomad that engine looks good. So now you are going to have to build it with the access panels open to show it off.

I do'nt know what Dragon does but I'll never understand how they can box cutting edge armor kits but can break down a 1/48 scale single seat fighter in such a way as to make it an absolute nightmare to build.

Thanks Julez and Micheal for your comments. I am going to try something different with the lower engine cowls. I feel bad for Art and the problems he faced with his Dragon kit but he is sending me his extra lower engine cowls. I am going to try and have rods attached to the cowls at the top pivot hinge point. and glue small brass tubes in the open top fuse so I can change it to open or closed or both. Hate to see such a sleek airplane with open panels all over. That is going to be a challenge will post pics of that after I get the office built. I live out here in the sticks and have found Group Builds the only source of interaction I get with other modelers and enjoy seeing your work guys. Thank You Big Smile

Hey Damon that is a good looking engine you have there I like the way it turned out. What colour did you use by the way I might want to try it some time
