Julez72

Frank, so how long are you keeping this one open? I still have that eduard A 5 in my stash...

Hmmm... I dunno for sure!  At least a couple of months, perhaps end of January?  By all means, break out that A-5! Toast

sk3tch- Nice work there so far, especially black 7.  Love those schemes, but have never actually tried one myself.  Some great looking 109 kits there in the photo, I would post a pic of my 109 stash, but I don't know if they would all fit in the frame. Embarrassed LOL

Bish- Glad to hear that you are home now, but bummer about having to go back overseas in February.  You mention the Stuka, by all means- I have one of those in mind for that GB as well when we get to it!

Just wanted to tell everyone who has posted finished or in progress photo's, great looking 190's. So many talented builds. Very cool GB Frank, even if I was sidelined. Very inspiring work everybody.

Broke open the Tamiya D-9 figuring it would be a quick build in an attempt to make the deadline, gonna end up waiting on decals.

Frank, with winter getting closer and things slowing down abit, count me in on RDIV.

Evening everyone,

I thought I would post a few WIP shots for you.  I am hoping to get the landing gear and such taken care of this week and with any luck get to the decals this coming weekend.  I am also considering working a bit on the right wing as I am not sure how I feel about the large area I did in  MM RLM 74.  I am not sure if I was tired or just not paying attention but the area covered was much more than I was going for. I have been half arsed looking for examples of a similar camo scheme to justify my 'error' but nothing yet.  I may leave it so I can just get to finishing up.  I figure that the crosses will help when I get to the decals.

Now some of you may remember from my last posting that I have had a number of issues with this build one of which being that my initial coat of primer went on fuzzy and I was forced to strip and start over.  Unfortunately the underside has some rough patches.  Fortunately they are hard to see in the photo(if at all)!

All the paints used were Model Master acrylics with the exception of the preshading and the yellow which were Delta Ceramcoat Charcoal and Delta Straw.  I usually work with craft paints but didn't want to deal with trying to whip up some RLM shades.  I just enjoy trying out different ranges!

Take care

Mike

Rob, Frank, Julez and Sk3tch, thanks guys I'm really pleased you like it so far. Any progress is likely to be slow this week but I will try to keep it moving along.

Mike I like your paint job very much, are those some citadel paints I see?

Sk3tch great progress, look forward to more.

Cheers...

Cheers Frank. I will keep an eye out on any GB's you run, and once mhy bench is clear i will jump in with what ever is running at the time. I would love to get in on a NF build but i reckon i have kits to cover just about any RD build you decide to run.

@Spike,

Yessir, those are indeed citadel paints.  I had some buddies that 'coerced' me back into the realm of things 'nerdy' via Warhammer and Warhammer 40k.  I haven't played at all in a couple of years, though I moved into painting historical miniatures(with an idea of gaming, though hasn't happened yet) and model making(obviously!), but I still enjoy the paints.

I finished the Fujimi 190 A-7/R8 a few weeks ago but between work and football I haven't posted.  Kinda disappointed how this turned out.  The kit is very basic but it looks like a 190.  The reason I built this one was because it had Red 23 in the kit.  That was Bar's back up aircraft he was flying when he scored his 200th victory.  Unfortunately the kit decals were too big and the colors are off.  It's going in the back of the case.

White 13 and Red 23 together.

Out of the box except for the guns and the canopy.  The original canopy was broke so I had to get a Squadron vac canopy.  The guns are Master Model.

Pics are from my Iphone so don't anyone rag on me for the photos, please.  This ain't the Photography Today forum after all. Smile

Mo- Great to see you, it's been a while!  Which decals are you looking for?

Mike- I agree the 74 looks a little off on that wing, perhaps a little touch up?  The bottom looks perfect, very well done on the shading.

Julez- No problem, just let me know!  I am dying to see your Dora!

Bish- Thanks mate, I really appreciate that.  These RD GB's have been an enormous success, and I am so happy to be a part of them.  Rest assured, when it's time for RDIV, I will make certain to find you!

satch- Outstanding, welcome to the finish line!  I updated page one for you.

Well gents, I updated page one to reflect  a new end date, 2/1/11.  I sure do hope to see more work here!  I am hoping to start on my Hasegawa 190 soon, but the bench has been occupied lately with a large scale 109 I started for RDI but never finished.  I was not pleased with how it was progressing, so I tore it apart to salvage the cockpit.  After setting it aside for a few months (and building a different kit for the GB) I decided to try and fix it.  It was a lot of work repairing the damage, but it is now finally going rather smoothly.  Hope to begin painting it soon!

On another note, I am discovering how difficult it is to find markings for a standard 190A-8 in 1/32.  Most of the decal offerings are A-8/R2 or A-8/R8 (Sturmbock) variants.  I found a profile I like in a book I have, but am having difficulty verifying the scheme as accurate.

Satch, great work well doneYes I hear you regarding the pics, i have a camera and i still can't take a decent photoToast

Frank, Mate with an extension of three and a half months it's a given, i'll cut sprue on the Eduard A-5 in a couple of weeks...It's that open engine bay that makes me want to get it doneToast

I'll keep an eye out for the 109 you have on the go, one of my favourites...I have the Zvezda 109F in the stash that i'm hopeing to do next year in desert camo again....

Well i'm still having photobucket issues and can't upload the pics, i tried to upload a previous wip pic under a new tag but that wouldn't upload either...It must be a site problei guess...I did manage to get one up on image shack but it doesn't look right, i'll try photobucket again later...

Anyways here is the imageshack pic.....Sory for the poor quality, i'll get better ones up soon...

Frank -- I look forward to seeing that 109, I remmeber you having problems with it.

Well, with an extended finish date I'm sure I can get some more planes to the line. I have canopy masks for my three other 190s on their way, and the weather is definitely trending into the warm end of the year now, so hosing on stinky enamels outside is a distinct possibility. I'm looking at preshading for the first time, on the Hasegawa 1:32 A-8, and seeing how it comes out. I'm really looking forward to finishing this beast, it'll be my first in the scale in many years.

Cheers, Mike

Julez- Excellent, I love it!  The Doras in the black-white-black RD bands are my personal favorites, and this one especially with the spotted nose.  Very well done, looking forward to those additional pics!  I certainly hope you can get the PB working so we can see them.

Mike- Thanks mate, I certainly am glad to be making some progress on this one again! Propeller

Frank, I was looking for a set from Eagle Editions. I've put in a commit @ Sprue Brothers for the set I'm looking for and will get an email when they are available.

More great looking 190's everyone!

Mike, Hugh.. Thanks gents i'm glad you like her....

Mike, For panel lines i use water colour pencils, you know the ones the kids use to colour in a pic and then go over with a wet paintbrush, i break open the pencil and crush the pigment into powder before mixing with water...

Frank, so mine is the 22nd finished for this group and i find myself wondering what the record is for completed builds in a GB...Any thoughts???

You know, I have wondering the very same thing!  The most I have had in any of the group builds was 35.  Those were from the Knights of the Sky II GB.

Mo- Great news!  Glad that your stickers are on their way.  Which bird are you doing?

dupes- PICS!  WE NEED PICS!!! Stick out tongue

Randy- No worries my friend!  I haven't made any progress lately on my F-86 for the NMF II GB either! Embarrassed

Daywalker my 190 is on the bench and the airbrush is ready to paint the pit and gear bay in the morning, bout time huh. Got finished pics of my MiG build up so now its full speed ahead on this one.

I want to do something a bit different so I think I will build this one a 2./SG4, in Northern Italy 1944 in tropical camo. I havent been able to find the correct color but made a guess, I don't really want to be mixing my own colors, and am trying to get away from Tamiya paints as base colors. Anyway I figured I would ask the experts here if Model Master SANDGELB RLM  79 would be the correct color to use as the base. Here's a picture from the box of what it looks like.

I think is a cool looking paint scheme

Randy- You got it, RLM 79 would be the right color.  The bottoms of those Tropical planes were RLM 78, and the green splotches are RLM 80.  Hope that helps!

Randy, awesome scheme on that one love it....I used MM RLM 79 on my 109G recently and had to lighten it with some white to get the right shade...MM have the right colour but under that sun it faded quickly....

Looking forward to seeing some WIP pics buddyYes

Randy -- great choice! That's the same kit I built and I really want to do the famous Black 10 one of these days too, as soon as I can find another example of this kit on eBay. She builds very cleanly, you'll fairly rip through it compared to the ICM MiG. Yep, RLM-79 is the base colour. Can't wait to see her go together!

Cheers, Mike/TB379
