Did some spotting to add a little more depth and weathered with the prismacolor pencil and weathering powders....

It will be in a small vignette with this PTO Mustang eventually....

Wow, what can I say, some great looking builds and maybe some people that could be classed as certifiable two weeks in a row (ok maybe not quite certifiable just enjoy their modeling hardcore).

Both my kits are together just paint and decals to go. Well considering I did pick up the Hobby Boss 1/48 F-111C today next weekend hmmmmm... Ok if I did I'd prolly end up the same place as Brett LOL.

Spending a few minutes plowing through the last seven pages...some GREAT builds, guys!

Dioramator - that Panther looks wonderful. Really surprised how well that filter you applied toned down the pinkish-brown.

So when we last left off, I was off to the spray booth to lay down the base coat - here's what she looked like then:

Things were moving pretty fast at that point...not many pics worth posting. Didn't get to come into town to post them anyway.

Sooooo, the finished product is below! Done with about 3 hours to spare. Small mishap when I sneezed while applying dry transfers - ended up hand painting a couple of markings as a result. I really need a new camera...just not seeing the model that I'm looking at in these photos. May try a re-shoot with a different background to see if some of the contrasts show up.

Can't wait for the next one! Think we can squeeze in a dead-of-winter version? January? February?

Sweet looking M1, Dupes. Great job to everyone who made it under the wire. To those that didn't, it was a great effort. Keep plugging away and get her finished up.

Since I see that Bondo isn't starting until next weekend, I'm taking my 40% off coupon to HL here in a little while to find something to build along with him. The XF-12 needs some sort of escort. The wife is taking my mother in law to a craft show that I am not required to attend so It's just me and Nick all day Saturday. Yes, gentlemen, we are doing it again

Was poking around Lucky Model for 1/72 accessories...turns out Legend has a stowage seat for this thing that might make it feel a bit more "complete" - seems a little bare to me. Think I may have to round that thing up, as well as reducing the iff panels from the 1/35 DML decal sheet I've got to 1/72 scale and throwing those on. Maybe a more involved base, too...heh.

alass.. my P-38M did not get completed intime.. my dealine was 9:00pm, EST.. at 10:45.. I pushed away.. a small headache had set in..

I did get it to the paint shop, she's all black and anti glare panel on nose done. and natural metal area around the superchargers done..( ps., in 1.5 hrs.. I sprayed the natural metal areas, and flat black on the nose,masked them, and sprayed gloss black, in that time frame.. no lifting, no issues..)

the only other problem I had, is that when I grafted on the RO piggy back, I set it back to far, I ended up with a 1/16" gap between the side windows, canopy top, and the windscreen..

Can't do a V-2 because I don't own an optivisor.  Besides I'd have to deal with Mac and I make it a point to not deal with grumpy retired sargents.

I have been lurking this build all weekend and all I can say about the builds here is

AMAZING WORK ONE AND ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quality was not lost in the speed of these builds, and I just cant get over how fast you all built. My hat goes off to each and everyone of you. Simply awesome. 

Dupes:  Great build and the photos look great to me!  I'll update the front page as soon as I get a chance.

Jules:  The Staff car is awesome and looks great with the Mustang.  Would love to see the Kubelwagon.

I'll be all done tonight after work, I should have started Thurs, but didn't get going until Friday night which meant I lost a good chunk of Sunday since I had to work.

Still I almost made it, and technically the crash truck was done only an hour past the deadline. It was the decals for the ambulance I had to wait on, I just couldn't see trying to rush and putting them over paint that hadn't had time to dry properly.

I am really amazed to see the kits some of you managed to squeeze into 48 hours.

Alright, I finally have a few moments to sit back and reflect/comment on the whirlwind that is called Weekend Madness... well, at least for week one.

Of the 22 participants who began their build this past weekend 14 of them (including Kugai though I am waiting for his finished pic with masks removed) finished pretty much on time with the other 8 being very close to finishing.  This compares to 22 participants last year with 18 models completed (two by the same person) though I did not keep track of how many were finished on time though I believe it is fairly close to the same number as this year.  I think the total number of completed builds this time around will be much higher though.  Keep at it guys.

This has been AWESOME and I want to thank everyone for  their participation and for making this so much fun for everyone involved.  I will seriously consider doing another weekend build in February but that will depend largely on the mood of SWMBO!  Haha!

Completed builds:

Richard:  Your Trumpy Mig looks great and I think you are going to be hard pressed to do something better next weekend but I'm going to love seeing you try. 

Jules:  I love the paint job on the staff car.  It really looks the part with all the preshading and everything and if you do the Kubelwagon next weekend I'm sure it will look spectacular too.

Bob:  After  false start you really came through on the Rat Rod in a big way.  That interior was great and brought back some memories of the 60's (yes, I remember the 60's).

Jeff & Nick:  What can I say.  Nick banged out the fastest build and Jeff polished off a NMF Mustang on top of it.  Awesome!

Stikpusher:  The KV looks great and with a little weathering it will really pop.  The texturing effect on the turret is a technique that I am going to file away for future reference.

Dupes:  The Abrams looks stunning with some nice shading effects that look great with the desert buff.

Railfan:  That is the first model railway build I've seen done in the weekend GB or on FSM period I think.  Hope we get to see more of your work in the future.

Brett:  The Panther looks stunning too.  To tackle a three colour camo in 48 hours is ambitious but you totally pulled it off.

Hutch:  Pulling off a mottled 1/48 aircraft build in 48 hours is pretty ambitious too but you also pulled it off nicley.  Bonus for the spinner spiral!

Tony:  Yet another ambitious build.  It sure looks great in the pics.

Suppressionfire:  I've done some 1/144 aircraft builds but you've taken tiny scale to a whole new level.

Kugai:  Final pics man, I want final pics!!!  Lol!  It's still a big model for a small scale and it turned out great.

Hope that is everyone.  I know some of you are/were very close to being done and I'm just waiting for the finished pics.  Keep at it guys and keep those pics coming.  We really want to see those builds done.

I am sure I speak for all in saying thanks for hosting this event.  Your level of engagement and enthusiasm is second to none...  I had a lot of fun doing this build and it showed me I don't have to over think and over work my builds to get a nice look.  Again...thanks....

The 3 colour camo job was a bit of a challenge. but I don't do it because it is easy, I do it because it is hard.
testing the limits of my endurance and ability. (and it does leave me with an amazing feeling of achievement afterwards)

So next year, I might look at the Dora rail gun............ scratchbuilt in 1/16 scale. LOL

I've seen a few railroad builds floating around in the FSM forums, but they are few and far between (the last one I saw was about a year or 2 ago.)

I'll definately try to get in next year with another railroad model.

I have to echo what others have said and thank Dave once again for putting this together. This is such a fun thing to do. Ain't it amazing what we can pull off when we have a proverbial gun to the head?

Anyway, me and Nick are on the hook again next weekend so Bill isn't building all alone. I will be building a Tamiya 1/35 Kampfpanzer Leopard and Nick will be building Revell 1/100 F-15 Eagle.

After that I, like many of you, will go back to taking 18 months to finish some thing that we have all proved can be banged out in 48 hours...

My 2nd year trying this GB and while I got a further than last time (barely got the cockpit of my P-39.) I stilled didn't finish. So here are the pics of where I'm at so far.
