Thanks everyone for your kind words.  It has been a lot of fun and we'll have some more this weekend.  I'll see what the wife and kids are up to and maybe I'll jump in again too (what am I saying Surprise).

Scott:  Absolutely you can have the badge as long as you finish your build soonish rather than latish.  I'll let you decide what that translates to.  Wink

Andrew:  I love the Yolkwulffe 190.  I've seen the Corsair one done a couple of times but this is the first Butcher Egg I've seen and I really like it.  You did a smashing job!  Gives me some ideas for next Easter!

I'm still here! I may be the 51 year old who foolishly entered a Sprint instead of a walking event but I'm adding details to start fleshing it out. Right now the cargo bed.

Got the mask off.  Here are those final pics.

My son was over after school today and apparently has been inspired to try and be an unofficial participant next week.  He's talking about trying to get his X-3 kit together when he's with me this weekend.

Don:  That is looking real cool.  I can't believe you are scratch building this whole thing and don't talk to me about getting old.  I hit 47 today!  Dead

Kugai:  Thanks for the final pics and if your son wants to jump in there will be nothing unofficial about it.  Gotta get these kids involved in something other than video games.

Happy birthday Dave

When I was a kid, mostly kids built models

now I am an old man, mostly old men build models

:-)  just goes to show I was born at the right time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE!

And thank you for being the host you've been for this GB!Yes

A lil more-

I wanted that 'organic' look for the suspension backbone so I sculpted it and then blended it to the bottom.

EDIT for further updates without another post.

Started to add detail underneath.

The cargo bed needs some tie-downs. Could have just been like 'grab handles' but I wanted them recessed into the floor. Set about to make such. Needed an upper lip too so they could sit more flush.

And here are the four tie downs sunk into the bed and still operable.

Razordws,

Thank you for letting me participate again for a subsequent weekend build. Really loved doing this one and i am just as eager to do my next build.

After looking at what i had in my stash i decided on Italeri's F86E in 1/48 scale. Bit dated (ex Esci kit) but it has an extensive decalsheet that is certainly worth the extra moneySmile

See ya next weekend i guess.

Oh and btw,

Each and everyone of you has shown amazing work and persistence on creating such quality in such short notice. My special praise goes out to Hutchhd with his Focke Wulf and Dioramator with his equally stunning Panther. They are awesome!Bow DownToast

Well I do have my Faun SLT-56, parts count almost 1000, 1 part every three minutes, thats doable isnt it? (whos needs food, sleep, and paint) Blind Fold. Honestly I will be sitting it out but I do promise to check in 2-3 times a day and keep up.

Well got the final coat of paint on the Buff last night about to start decaling now, comments on kit with final build.

Well its done, not a kit I would suggest to anyone on a limited time scale and not one for standard decals either. The kit instructions say 1990, while the decals say 1988 and they showed it. I picked up the kit for $15 early this year when a local toy shop was having a clearing sale from cleaning out the back of their wharehouse (also picked up some kits that were actual bargins) so I'm not to supprised at its age. A huge error is the suggested paint scheme gave a date of 1981 with included AGM-28 Hound missles which were phased out in the late 70's. The paint scheme I is a possible fictional one as I'm not sure if the overall gunship grey came in before this squadron was transferred to B-1's in 1987 (I know some had green/gunship grey at the same time and some had pure gunship grey in 1988 so its plausible). Also I do note the error in coloured national insignia (I didnt have low vis at correct size) also yes nose art is over sized, under old camo types it would of been tail art, low vis it had to become nose art. As for the Wing decals Ick! huge and solid, I think the other versions I've seen that use 2-4 decals would of been much better (beside the fact that due to age they tore easy Angry but did go down okish if it wasnt for that. I would like to build another b-52 but either in 1/144 or maybe Tamiyas 1/100 version, 1/72 might be a little big. Overall not unhappy with the result as it looks like a Low-vis Buff from my desk/work bench about 4' away.

First pic shows the wonderful wing decals and discolouring to paint under

WHOA!!!  I thought Kugai's B-2 looked big but this is huge.  Can't imagine doing one in 1/72 but it would look cool hanging from the ceiling.  Thanks for sticking with it and finishing up quickly Andrew.  Cool

I like the idea of voting on which model completed in the allowed time frame turned out best. Scale and complexity of paint scheme should count for effort points. How about a points system like this:

Basic construction                                /  25

Complexity & execution of paint         /  25

Degree of difficulty & scale                 /   25

Scratch building & extras                    /   15

Quality & amount of WIP's                   /   10

_________________________________

=                                                                  100%

Each participant shall assign a % for each completed build, not for their own entry(s) and a average can be calculated from the totals.

Just a idea in the spirit of friendly competition, whats your thoughts fellas?

That's a gutsy undertaking in a weekend. It would be a good effort to get it done in two months. You're right, it looks every bit a buff.

This is an outstanding effort .

Cheers

Koenigwolf:  Yeesh! You even got time for puttying in there from the looks of it ( a step I had to skip due to time issues )!

razordws- NP's thanks for hosting again.

Taxtp & Kugai- If I had of spent as much time sanding as I should of, and taking more care I might of taken two months. Looks great a from a coupleof feet, closer you can pick out the bad sanding/shaping/lack of time issues.

Beautiful build P-38.  I can't believe you built that in a matter of days!!!  I have heard that this kit is a challenge and you threw in a conversion as well.  Bow Down Bow Down Bow Down

Love the gloss black look with the chromate green contrast drawing the eye to the details but you want to go back and look at the shiny black, then look at details again etc great work.

p38jl,

Gloss black is the ultimate shine for any vehicle or in your case aircraft. Excellent work and finish to your project.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it.. the black is just plain ol' Testors Gloss black..

As for the fit issues, there not major in my mind, mostly just sanding down some edges to make sure the parts fit better , and some test fitting before glueing. Realy just some basic skills...Boom alingment that alot of people talk about was minimum and I just glued one boom to the stabiliser, and after it set up, just slightly pulled on the other to pull it into its designated area, and glued it.. very minor..

Haha!  I love your enthusiasm Richard.  Looking forward to your next effort.

I was going to commit to jumping in again as I thought I had tomorrow (Friday) fairly free of distractions so I was going to do a Friday/Saturday build but the Boss called and wants me to go in for a couple of hours.  Boo Hoo  I need the money though so it's a good thing.  I will be keeping track of all you though so good luck!

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to bail out of the 2nd weekend reluctantly too. I am playing sport all day tomorrow and feel that I should spend some extra time with my wife and kids around that. However I would love to be having another crack, it just doesn't quite fit this weekend. I'll just keep plodding on with some 'slow' builds.

Cheers

Ok,... the inconvenient nuisance called "work" is out of the way and my weekend just started. Time for weekend madness fun pt.2Big Smile

Just took a moment to take a few pics of what i have to work with. Last pic of the decalsheet shows time and date:

Not much parts so lotsa time to concentrate on the filling and sanding as well as the extensive decals:

Actually the sprues were not bagged, only the clear parts. Hope the parts are not scratched or something...

And the best part of the kit:

See you next update!Wink

p38jl,

No badge that I know of for the second weekend (except for Bondoman, should he complete the challenge).  Jump in anyway, you know you want to.

Dear Frank's Boss,

Can Frank come out and play?
