I've got the Verlinden set of Kelly, Big Joe, Oddball, and Crap-Game (Dunno why Crap-Game is in that set since he was wounded earlier and wasn't in the scene, but oh well...... Is your set the one with Oddball, Moriarity, and Turk?

yup.. it is.. I was thinking about getting the Formations conversion,,but its $60.00.. I got the tank.. and the crew, just not sure how much I wanna scratch,, to make Oddball's tank...

Hans, from what i remember they did a pretty good job on those t-34's/Tigers So you are welcom to go either way.As long as the paint scheme is right from the movie.

Yeah they did.. If it weren't for the T-34 tracks and the fact that the turrets were rather over-sized for the chasis, they'd have been  dead-ringers...  I was only about ten or so when the movie came out, and in my mind, they WERE Tigers, lol...  I'd just built a Lindberg (I think) 1/72 Tiger, see... So I was the German Armor expert in my neighborhood, lol...

So here's the plan... I'm gonna do the Tamiya Tiger kit I got for the build...  However, I'm torn whether to do the scene of Kelly, Big Joe, and Oddba talking with the Feldwebel, and the scene in which Oddball's Sherman hits the second Tiger in the azz with the paint shell..  Anyone have a preference?  I'm kinda partial to the latter, but then I wouldn't get get to use the Big Joe figure Oddball was in the hatch, and Kelley was manning the fifty while standing on the rear deck...

There're just too many good scenes from that movie to model, lol... One could "Storyboard" the whole movie in 1/35th scale dioramas, lol..  Starting with the Tiger gunning down the *** Oberst...

humm.. I just got the Jaguar Oddball crew.... Surprise

I forget that it is summer time on your side of the world. While we have been having summer like days here along the coast of So Cal, the nights are quite cool to remind us that it is still Jauary...Cool

After much deliberation on this, I would like to join in with a Monogram 1/48 F9F in the markings of William Holden/Lt Brubaker from The Bridges at Toko Ri.

as interesting and fun as this sounds, I must bow-out.  I no longer have kits at my disposal for this build.

I am considering this, i was poking around and found a old Polar Lights Black Beauty (the car not the horse) in my stash. It was not started and with the recent release (today) of the Green Hornet i figure this is a fitting GB =).

Ill let you know by Monday.

 p38jl:

hi,,! please add me..!

my 2 possible builds, or both.. Mad Max's Black Interceptor from Road Warrior, and or Oddball's tank from Kelly's Heroes..

For Oddball's Sherman,Formations makes a beautiful conversion kit but it cost about $100.00 and Jaguar actually makes a figures kit for the guys.

PS: my Revell M-47 and AFV Tracks arrived yesterday !!

ya! I've seen that.. from Formations themselves it was about $60,, I got the Jaguar crew the other day.. I'mn debating the conversion,, ( if my snowplowing jobs pay up soon.. I might )

First off please excuse my lack of attendance here the last couple of weeks, family commitments in the post christmas summer thing.

If I havnt havnt added you yet to the build list I will in the next week.

Hans, from what i remember they did a pretty good job on those t-34's/Tigers So you are welcom to go either way.As long as the paint scheme is right from the movie.

Kugai, mod a SA-330 or use a Hind again they did a pretty good job of modding it. As long as the paint scheme is right from the movie.

Hans, Kugai and anyone else, My main thing about it being right was for example with the above mentioned Top Gun aircraft those planes are easily availible in kit form the challenge is getting the paintwork and markings accurate to the movie not just the "its a tomcat from Top Gun" Though I think most people here would be above that.

Its "the Spirit" we want not the cop out and not the rivet counting. Its to have FUN.

Let me get back to you on that.  The Hind is one of the ideas I have in mind, but there are others that I might choose.  Among them are the Airwolf ( maybe with the Redwolf paint scheme ), the MiG/"Wing Commander" fighter or Trek "Kitbash Party" options, and a submarine from the cartoon Metalocalypse ( closest real-world design was a typhoon, but with ominous red lighting ).

Yet another that's related to the Hind idea is the med shuttle from Firefly.

Too...many...options! Bang Head

I guess we're both waiting for the judge's call on this question:

"Does it have to be the actual behind-the-scenes equipment as a starter with modifications, or will a kit of what it was supposed to be do?"

Reckon so... But we got plenty of time before the start-date, so I won't rattle his cage just yet, lol..

While I'm thinking about it, I found a site with some good pics of the Red Dawn "Hind"... Need it?

Mi-24 from "Red Dawn"?  ( which could be interesting, given it was some kind of European helicopter with added parts )

The "Hind As" were Aerospatial Pumas...

Thanks, Hans.  I guess we're both waiting for the judge's call on this question:

I tried starting this kind of GB about three years ago, but it fell flat..  My mistake was making it a Hollywood Diorama GB and participation wasn't exactly overwhelming because of that rule, lol....

I'd love to take a swing at this one though.. But I'd still want to do a diorama, in order to put the model in the proper context (Gotta keep those rivet-counters at bay, lol)...

As of right now, I'm thinking about doing the scene from Kelly's Heroes in which Kelly, Big Joe, and Oddball confront the Tiger and its TC in the town square... One issue though.. Is using a Tiger kit (rather than vis-modding a T-34 into one) within the rules?  It appears that you want the actual base-vehicles/aircraft to be used, which means using the T-34, in my particular case... Am I tracking?

It's not really an issue as far the actual build goes, as I can do it either way...  I just wanted to get clarification before I "destroy" a 30.00 Tiger kit, lol... Don't care about the T-34/75... They're cheap at Hobby Lobby, lol..

At any rate, you make the call, Andrew.. I've got other movie-model ideas too, so I'm not locked into this one particular scene, or even that particular movie...  I just wanna do something with "ground action" in order to break the aircraft-modeling chain I've been on lately...

I watched the movie , Operation Dumbo Drop last night , I quite enjoyed the whole film .

My brother copied a couple of reference pic's from the DVD into his computer for me ;

Here's one of the C-123K ...

I like this pic of the elephant on the back of the truck...

Airfix have some 1/72 scale QLT Trucks that are available ...

The trucks look similar to what's in the movie , so I ordered the Airfix kit .

I just need to find an elephant in 1/72 scale to ride in the back of the truck .

There was another scene from the movie which caught my interest regarding the C-123 Provider....

I had previously spent quite a bit of time searching the internet for reference pic's and info on the C-123 Provider to use on my current builds but untill I saw the movie I didn't realize that the radar/communications/crew chief sat up high in the cargo section of the plane .

I'll have to something similar on my build as well as the other 6 Mach 2 C-123 Providers in the stash .

I'm in but I got suckered into a similar build on another site and will hopefully have the Harold & Maude Jaguar Hearse I was thinking about for this GB completed before Feb. I was watching North by North West the other night and there was a neat Park Ranger station wagon used near the end of movie. I'm thinking about doing it for the GB.

Kugai.

If you are interested in Airwolf. Aoshima got a very nice 1/48 kit out(2 versions one with PE), they are also doing a 1/48 Blue Thunder(again one set with PE/Metal).

Both kits come with a stand for flight display and Crew.

Surprised so few people signing up as this type of GB covers all genres and there is no shortage of kits to chose from.

Can't agree more - the new Aoshima kit is lightyears ahead of the old AMT/Ertl kit. Only real problem is it had beautiful interior detail that unless you do a cut-away won't be seen in the finished model.

And the pilots are sharp too, though they both look more like Hawke. You'd have to use to putty to add more... um... padding to make one look like Dom.

You have several options with the C-123. Such great movie classics like Air America, or Operation Dumbo Drop, starring Danny Glover, Ray Liota, Dennis Leary and Doug E. Doug. Though the plane from Con Air would be a fitting tribute, considering the plane used in the movie crashed recently, killing all crew aboard.

http://wireupdate.com/local/authorities-identify-victims-of-alaska-con-air-movie-plane-crash/

As it happens Jon , I'm actually in the middle of building a collection of Air America Aircraft and Helicopters ;

All of the builds are started and some are close to masking for airbrushing , all of my wip pic's are over in the FSM Helicopter section . Thank's for the link on the Con Air C-123 , It's quite sad she crashed killing all on board .

I was thinking of picking up the Air America DVD and I haven't seen the movie Operation Dumbo Drop , so I look around for that DVD as well .

I have six Mach 2 C-123 Providers in the stash , two are about 90% complete with just the painting to do , one is for Air America the other is a HC-123B for the USCG .

As you say , I t would be a fitting tribute to build the Con Air C-123 , now that she's no longer with us .

So many choices, it's hard to pick just one.  I have Dragon's old (1997) AH-6J Little Bird from the 160th SOAR from "Black Hawk Down" but that seems too easy to pick.  Maybe a Patton tank painted "Dunkelgelb" with German markings from the 60s TV series "The Rat Patrol".

I'm in, just have to decide what to build.
