Way Too Many Props GB April 18, 2011 - Extended to July 28, 2012
Posted by B17Pilot on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 1:27 PM

After interest was stated in the aircraft forum, I'm starting the official thread here.  It will be my first GB has host, so bear with me, if I missed something.  Start date will be April 18 (Doolittle Raid; also clears up some other GBs) to run for a year, since some of these multi engine birds can take a while.

Rules:

  • Any scale, any era, any type (fighter, bomber, transport, etc.)
  • Out of box or as much AM sets that will fit into the aircraft
  • One engine turning one prop and has to be at least two (Wright Flyer will not work, since only one engine turned both props; Tu-95 will work cause there are four engines, each turning two props a piece)
  • Must be mainly powered by props but must have multiple props, so late models of the B-36 (six turning, four burning) is allowed; but one jet and one prop is not
  • Turbo props, like the C-130, are allowed
  • No jets, like the B-52
  • Propliners definitely included
  • Builds less than 50% are allowed
  • Crossovers welcome
  • Post Pics of progress is a must
  • Conversions allowed if documented example exists, but must still fit the rules.  I.E. XB-38
  • No what ifs

Oh heck yes...sign me up!

1/48 Monogram B-25J glass-nose converted to a Marine PBJ-1J.

Also...anybody know of any AM detail sets for the Revellogram B-25s? Everything out there seems to be for the Accurate kits.

Actaully seeing as your allowing cross overs, which i haven't done before, stick me down for the kit i am building for my own  Mighty 8th GB. Its the Acedamy 1/72nd B-17F. Then dependng on how the year pans out, i may add something else later.

I was thinking of doing that Wing-Scale one as well, maybe.  90% of my stash is multi-engined birds.

Doogs, added your 1/48 PBJ

Bish, your B-17F is added

Don't see why you can't use the sets for the Accurate kit in the Revell one.  I put a set for the Hasegawa P-38 into the Academy kit, didn't use all of it though.

B17Pilot,

Put me down as a definite TBD.  I have a couple of the 1/48 AMT/Ertl A-20 kits (a -20G and -20J), a 1/72 Minicraft PB4Y-1 and will be getting one of the 1/32 WingScale B-25H's whenever they are released.  Those are the only spinny wingy things in the stash currently.

This is pretty tempting... it has been too long since I did one of those wierd things with wings on 'em.  Let me give it some thought.

Oh, and uhh...  It should be "Way TOO Many Props"...Whistling

Unless of course you are metaphorically speaking of going TO a place where there are many props... then it'd be good... Wink

Yea I think Eduard has the only J model specific AM sets out there, unless your looking at guns.  In that case Verlinden and Quickboost are there.  IMO the Monogram interior is good for the most part

I know I said either a B-25 or a B-24 in the Aircraft forum, but forget that.. I just ran across a couple of photos of a white-painted OA-10A!!

The aircraft's (the OA-10A is the Army's PBY-5A for you Sailors out there) from the AAF's 6th ERS based at Ie Shima in August of '45... There's also one of a "White Cat" from the 5th ERS/8th AF based at RAF Halesworth, England in '45... Pictured below:

Never having seen a "White Cat" before today (A least not that I remember), I think this is the way to get that Monogram PBY-5A I've had for 14-15 years out of the box finally... Boo-yahhhhh...

Now what kit....I have a B-17, B-24, B-25, B-26, B-29 and an E-2C Hawkeye that will suffice.  All are 1/48 scale.

I guess I will see how the roster plays out.

Doogs, nice badge, but it looks like you pulled a B17Pilot!  Can you fix the 'to' to 'too'?

He doesn't need to.  In the context of his badge, the word 'to' represents a modifier to imply moving from one place to another, rather than statement of quantity (as in 'too many...')

EDIT:  Ooops, looks like this already got sorted out...Stick out tongue
