Hi Howard, great tip on using the signboard material, Here we call it "Correx" and I have lots of it left from a RC slope glider I built.......score!

I know exactly what you mean with the "sealing up" of the door hindges for para ops. During my time as a loadmaster in the SAAF I recall it being done with what at the time looked allot like green duct tape LOL!

Looking good Trey!  I hope the canopy fits well for you.  That's a lot of glass.

I spent the last few sessions assembling the wings and flaps and started on the engine nacelles.  The fit has been really good.  There are a lot of ejector pin marks on the landing gear parts to clean up though.  Some are going to be hard to reach.

Thanks Kevin! Unfortunately the kit supplied canopy assembly has a huge mold blemish so I ordered a Squadron Crystal clear replacement ,fit wise its gonna take some tweaking. I did get the gun assemblies in order and the tail feathers on .

Trey- Looking good man!!!Toast I need to add a Ju-88 or derivatives to my stash. 

Theuns- What would we do without putty and sandpaper ?Yes  Kind of like building a P-38. The Hudson or Ventura is another I've thought of adding to my lineup. Always liked the classic lines of  the aircraft. Looking forward to see how this turns out.

 I've got the base interior green painted in my Goony bird, but then went out of town for the weekend so I didn't get to work on it for a couple days. Currently adding the insulation blankets and other details to the inside of the fuselage halves before closing it up. Will have some WIP pics in a day or two.

BTW- The mention of a possible dio with my C-47 reminded me of a display practice I used to do. 

Since I generally don't have the space to display a diorama ,especially for a model the size of a 1/48 C-47, an alternative is to place related figures and hardware alongside the shelf displays. Adds a sense of scale and activity to an otherwise static shelf display.

Well I recon I would have allot more fun with this darn model  LOL!

I absolutely hate to do these mundain jobs that don't give allot of visual progress fast! I rebuild classic airplanes for a living and there are enough of those tipes of jobs on them not to come home and do it here aswell!

Must be my short attention span getting in the way LOL!

I will beat this model ,I will putty it to death! It may even become a 1/48 scale after I'mm done with it.........

TREYZX10R… I've gotta stop watching what you are building, it makes me want to add (whatever you are building) to my stash! The cockpit area is looking good buddy. The pointy wingtips on this one are growing on me.

Theuns… putty / sandpaper / rinse / repeat. I haven't seen many Hudsons built up, looking forward to seeing the final product.

Looks like I'm finally going to get my Lancaster build cranked up this week.   I'm going to get the cockpit going this week and have a relatively free weekend ahead, so should make some decent progress.

Stick with it Theuns!  Once you get a nice finish on it, all that puttying and sanding will be worth it.

I got the wings and flaps glued together.  Most of the seams have been sanded smooth and I am happy to report that I have used very little putty on this build.....sorry Theuns Stick out tongue

I hit a huge snag with the replacemnet Canopy,I just could'nt get the fit correct at the major seam between the nose section and the mainAngry no matter what I tried !! Well wound up deforming it worse than the kit supplied one! To add injury to insult I had already masked it! I wet sanded and buffed out 85% of the blemish on the kit supplied canopy sections then transfered the masks. The fit still is'nt great but considering the 188 almost took flight into the nearest wall at one point in the struggle I'll live with itSuper Angry I'm close to being ready to paint and still have'nt decided on a scheme,leaning toward a black bottom and squiggle topside of some sort just not finding many good pics on line and my books are hopeless on the 188.Anyway here is the progress so far...........

I haven't posted any progress pics in a while so he ya go.  I snapped a few shots of the wing assemblies and the fuselage as they currently sit.  They are not quite done as there are a few small spots in need of attention.  The flaps aren't glued in.  I just dry fitted them in, which obviously has a good fit, and took a few mock up photos.

Trey-  Just look at all the wing on that Junkers. Reminds me of the wings on the high altitude RB-57 Canberras.

 I've got some update WIP pics of the C-47.

First some pics of the unpainted little doo-dads here and there to jazz up the interior a bit more.

Interior painted ,ready to wear and weather.

Found some luster paste while cleaning out my desk drawer. Forgot I had this stuff. Works great for drybrusing highlights and scuffs. Not sure if this can still be found at the art supply stores ,but there's probably something similar. It's in paste form and dampening the brush with thinner/turpentine will allow the crush to pickup a heavier load of the paste.  

 

 

 

 

Weathered with watercolor washes,drybrushed with ModelMakerz rubble dust pigment and ground pastels for a dusty dirty look.

 

 

 

 

A few pics to show why I detail the interiors ( beside my own knowing it's there ). 

Even with an model without  a huge greenhouse canopy as Trey's 188, one can still look through various windows,  hatches, etc. I like having the interior be more than an empty shell, even if you can't really see exactly, the detail inside. 

 

 

 

Overall competed fuselage.

 I still need to do up the inside surface of the doors before tacking them in place. Then on to the wings and engines.

That is some awesome interior detail on the C47!  Absolutely beautiful..  What did you use for the inside lining in the cockpit ad tail compartments?  I can never get the instrument panels to be that neat and sharp.  What method did you use to detail them?

Keep up the great work.  I can hardly wait to se this baby completed.

Thanks Rich. The inside lining in the forward cabin/flight deck is kitchen foil pressed down over window screen , then trimmed om the diagonal. You can find pics of he process on page 33 of this GB. Page 36 shows where I cut narrow strips of plastic for the ribs and stringers in the aft cabin. Other details made with little bits of sprue, sheet plastic, and thread. I used monofiliment  nylon thread colored silver with a sharpie marker for the static jump line. 

 The kit has a printed film with the gauge faces to affix to the backside of a clear IP. I used a drop of white glue to mask the gauge faces on the clear part , painted black.then popped off the spots of dried glue. A very light drybrush of aluminum, and tiny dot of the appropriate colors applied very carefully with a 10 0 spotting brush. Another method is ,sharpen the tip of a toothpick to a fine point. Dip only the sharpened tip into the paint of your choosing , blot of any excess. Then use the tooth pick as a very fine tip pen. I also will put a few random dots of red , green or yellow here and there to give the impression of different switches and lights . Makes for some nice contrast with all the OD, int. green, and black. Most of all just have to be patient  and keep a steady hand.
