Sorry for th delay in writing, but I was out of home for the weekend.

On april 19th 1982 the first two SUEs 3-A-202 and 3-A-204  were deployed to the southern base of Almirante Quijada, on Tierra del Fuego, the next day th units 3-A-203 and 3-A-205 were deployed too, all the personal and th spares as well as th weapons were sended in several logistc flights.

Because of th French gouverment embargo, the unit 3-A-201 were used as a temporary fount of spares.

The units 202 and 203 were used in both atacks, against HMS Sheffield and th Atlantic Conveyor, and th 202 (according to Argentina) was used in an atack againt the HMS Invencible on may 30th

I´m going to build the 202 (I belive).

If you can DON¨T use th kit´decals, are almost totally wrong, all the stencils are in a wrong colour, incomplete, th sun on the tail should be golden, not yellow, the escruadrilla badge, is wrong in size and register. if yo can get one set of Aerocalcas, wich is a complment of the kit´s decals (you still have to use th anchos and th code numbrs) or Condordecals, wich s a complete set and allow you to build any SUE, but thy are a little thick.

mmm effectively decals from kit are a.. little too coloured

i'll do a search tomorrow contacting all stores that i use for model shopping. ok for 202 , i'll remove from list.

I discovered this night that original mould of academy super etendard is from italeri but this sounds a little strange for me, panel lines are so good..

Vance i heard even about helle super etendard, sure you want to build this kit??

continuing on nozzles, used the dremel to refine and breaked one

plastic patch and continue on second nozzle (x4 ..)

that's all for now, about finishing a mech so i'll have more space on workbench

bsyamato, looks like you have some work to do on that cockpit! For the nozzles, you are drilling out the vents & replacing them? Very nice upgrade.

I´m not in my home now but giveme a couple of days and I will read my book about the SUE to let you know wich machines were involvel in the project, I belive that must be 201 to 206, And I´m sure that the 202 was involved in the two more significative acttions of those planes during the war wich were the attack on the Sheffield and the Atlantic Conveyor.

The kit´s decals are almost useless, I recomend you to get an aftermarket set, www.condordecals.com.ar as one.

ahh! i'll try to find myself some infield pictures of it , if someone need try to search on flickr or others picture sharing sites, dismissed harriers are in good number around the world.

Then, my harrier landed on my workbench after two or three minutes hovering on it (too traffic on the workbench, or must call a big mess ).

Escorted by a revell luftwaffe f-4f phantom II in 1/72 (off topic, but again shocked for thevell of detail of this plane thinking to built it soon)

The harrier kit from italeri should be an old esci mould (unfortunetely failed italian brand ).

apparently it's a very good kit for this scale, noticed finest panel lines than the newest super etendard kit

I'll need to not do primer layer, the risk is to cover these lines:

kit provides airbrake options nicely done.

The ejction seat compared to the aeroclub one

mmmm   should keep the original from kit?

choosing to use the aeroclub piece this is the first obstacle

the piece don't fit on the cockpit tub . And the plastic of cockpit walls are too wide, what to do is put all original cockpit pieces onto nearest trash, improve the cockpit walls and scratch the rest ()

on the nozzles i started the firts mod

drilled a first hole

orizontal separation of these pieces make an easier way to refine it.

that's all for the daily hobby hour (first 45 minuted used to contemple the phantom kit  )

The carriers did carry their own Sea Harriers, FRS.1's i believe. The RAF's GR.3 were carried down on container ships, at least some were. Then they were transferd to the carriers.

ops  I did the wrong question about gr3... i refered to a possible diorama, i need some in field pics if the gr3 was used out of carriers . Actually i see only gr3 on carriers in this war. No fear, i'll need to search again on my aircraft library, sure i have something in an aviation enciclopedia about falkland war, and surely some article on mags for the .. 20° years anniversary. 

I just had a look, Mikey's Harrier pics are on page 10 of this thread. No cockpit photos though, they were afraid he'd try to start her up!

bsyamato I think that counts as the first progress pics. Afraid i don't have any Harrier pics, but Scorpio put some up a while back of an aircraft in a museum in Newq Zealand. He had some great pics on there, should be a real help. Can't recall if it was in this thread or the other one, but i am sure he will point you in the right direction.

Well not starting, just planning and discuss about the super etendard specify plane.

I found in my mess stock the old academy kit frozen about 15 years ago.

To save some space i put more than a kit in a box . used to store the decals and clear parts in more safe places, the again i miss the decals .On the instruction is reported the plane numbered zero-one on the nose, but at the war time only five etendard was delivered, so the number of etendard right for this GB are only five .

For others that build the super etendard please speak about which specific plane intentioned to build , to avoid same plane in the GB

(in the same box spitfire mk xvi from matchbox and a very raw kit:ms-406 from smer)

Already started at the time some tipe of detailing. Scratched the forward wheels weel (i think i'll remove and restart it) holed airbrakes. Unfortunately the wings was already glued  so no flaps mod (or will be hard to do) Some alluminium already done on landing gear and weels ....

Even cockpit was glued but i'll scratch all ,ejection seat included (the original it's very ugly).

For the rest the kit is great, Panel lines seems correct and finely engraved .Because i use brushes for painting i'll need to re-engrave all panel lines to avoid disappearing of it ..

For the Harrier in mind to do some extra work but need to find more references

Probably oriented to put it in a ground diorama (if the gr3 was used from ground bases in this conflict). Also found on my stock two martin baker broughted for a matchbox two seat jaguar (but after seen the kit I preferred to save it )

I am off today to see some of the Islands own shock troops, also known as King Penguins, so i might pick up some modelling insperation there.

Does anyone have that old 1/12 scale Falklands King Penguins that Airfix released in '82? I'll be a little slow off the start as I finish up some other kits, but I shouldn't be too far behind.

I just picked up a copy of UK magazine Classic Aircraft (Feb issue) with a 10-page feature on Harriers, includes a few bits on the Falklands deployment.

We are just few hours of the 29th anniversary of the Argentine landing in the Falklands / Malvinas.

A british movie with some humor and historical inaccuracies reports the first hours of the conflict in the South Atlantic. Unfortunately the first part is no longer available.

Just leave both aircraft, For harrier i have already the ejection seat, only i must check the status of super etendard, i leave it started in a box for very long time, i fear decals decadence.

I can add or remove whatever you like, we won't bother you if you miss one. (Take off the Harrier for now right?) It's a pretty rough list - I'm hoping to get all three of mine done over the time we have!

oh.. Vance you put me with both aircraft.. i hope be able to finish both pieces ..

Welcome aboard guys. And roger, no need to be embarressed, i amalso doing a matchbox kit as that was what i had. Infact i think we could do our own Matchbox GB at this rate.

I can't recall who it was, but someone mention about doing a yellow Sea King from down here. The two here now havejust had special markings applied to celebrate 70 years of RAF search and rescue. They have only been added in the last coupleof days. I will get some pics and post them when i can for anyone who might want to try something different.

Indeed....It's 1/72 scale and the stock markings also include one for the Indian Air Force (or Navy?) I'm currently reading Jeff Ethell &  Alfred Price's fine book on about the air war in the Falkland, "Air War South Atlantic." That inspired me to join the group build plus I remember the Falklands War very well and have read many books on the topic. Looking forward to see everyone's contributions.

That Matchbox is a 1/72 I'm guessing?

If it's not too late I would like to join this build. I have in my collection a Matchbox Sea Harrier that I'd like to build. I know there's better kits out there of it but since I already have it.....

After a session about a month ago, I ran around for the better part of 4 hours with a piece of styrene sheet glued to my elbow without noticing...

Hahahahaaa...kind of funny, considering I managed to do that last week while working on a C-47. Good thing I have a solid stock of debonder!

Just don't superglue anything to yourself!
