There are no limits on the paint scheme and markings.  They don't even have to be real.  The idea is to make one crazy wild aircraft with truly awesome paint and markings, accuracy and authenticity are out the window on this one.

QUESTION......are we limiting it to WW2 camo/paint schemes...cause I wanted to dress up a F-117 with WW1 lozenge camo....that would be wild.....

C

well that answers my questions....F-117 with Lozenge it is.....

c

dont know yet.....but most likely 1/48....I will do some research and see...any suggestions...I usually stick to Tami-gawa kits...

Go ahead and ink me down for Tamiya 1/48 F-117 in that Black/white splinter camo I was thinking for the Allison Mustang. I figured the Nighthawk needs more funny triangular shapes on it.

It looks like Two Bobs knew this GB was coming. They have 3 sheets done up for USN Centenial Aircraft. F-18s and Prowlers in various stages of WWII USN blues. The Prowler looks pretty cool with the early Blue/Gray markings. http://twobobs.net/index1.html

Those are pretty awesome! Though shame on the USN for not doing a yellow-winger!

Also, the Texas ANG dressed up an F-16 a few years back for their 90th anniversary. Hasegawa makes a kit with the markings.

Put me down for a 1/48 Revell F-15E. Not sure the livery yet, but I'm leaning toward a 56th FG scheme...

Either the D-bubbletops...

or their P-47M camo...love the distinctive colors, and the NMF leading edges on the wings would look crazy awesome on an F-15.

Okay, 1/48 on both.

No sweat, my friend.. I edited it three times, lol.. Photobucket's running a little slow for me on this rig and I had to switch computers twice to upload the badge ...

BTW, those two kits I mentioned are both 1/48th Revellogram...

 Hans von Hammer:

Here's a rough idea of the Group Badge I came up with earlier this morning for the GB I had in mind..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/HansvonHammer/Drawings/th_WW2CamoGroupBuild.jpg?t=1299789078

Don't mind the badge but I think it's too specific. This isn't strictly geared to putting a modern jet into WWII clothing...at least, that isn't the way I interpreted it.

I think that the two ideas are just different enough that we could do them in two separate builds since your idea is a bit more specialized, and in my build, camo or even markings at all aren't necessary.  I'll probably spend some quality time later on with my 3D software coming up with a badge.  I have a couple of ideas.

Mine was little different than yours, in that I was gonna make it modern jets (Meaning post-Cold War only)... Wanted to keep away from cross-overs that way, like when the F4U-4/5 was being redesignated as the AU-1 Corsair and AD Skyraider becoming the A-1 and grey over white vs overall Dark Sea Blue...

Putting the WW2 birds into modern grey isn't something I'd considered...

If ya want, I can tweak this badge a bit more to fit your build, Sparrow..

That said, I'll jump in with an F/A 18 and/or the F-4C Phantom.  Which depends on which kit has the most parts left in the box, as I have a tendancy to rob jet kits of interesting detail parts for WW2 birds, lol...

I'm thinking about the changes a little bit, changing the low-vis side background to a Navy Three-tone with light grey star & bars, and the WW2 side with a background of Dark Gull grey (or rather, the MS Paint equivilent) with a red center meatball to go along with the star & bar... Also, will change the name to  the "Wild Wings" logo...

Shall I proceed?

However, that is a great idea for another GB, maybe combine it with a vice versa, (ww2 painted modern, I love the boring grey on grey with grey trim!.....a digi-camo 51???!!!!)

I may jump in here later on, got a few to wrap up first!

No Problem, just let me know what you decide on.

This is a great idea! I'd like to join in, not sure what I want to do. Some contenders would be AM's 1/48 Allison Mustang done in black/white splinter camo, Tamiya's 1/48 F-117 in Camo TBD (Though not sure I want to use the only Nighthawk in my stash for this). Need to peruse the stash. I'll kick this idea around some.

Yup..  It is OK

so, it will be OK to have modern planes flying in WW2 colors?

That was sort of the original spark - modern warplanes carrying WWII-style livery instead of the oh-so-exciting Light Ghost Gray.

Interesting Idea, Sparrow.. Almost sounds like something I'd come up with...Wink

One more question...is this paint scheme suppose to be completely fictitious or can you take a real scheme and apply it to a subject that would otherwise never have worn it? I'm game either way, just curious....

Yes, I agree totally, I was just wondering if he intended one way or another. A while back I did an F-14 in a Japanese WWII mottle scheme...

It was a lot of fun, so I will definitely be doing this, I just haven't figured out what yet...

That would be allowable, but the idea is to build a kit that is really out there with wild markings.  Of course, if you dressed an FA-18 up in early WWII Luftwaffe colors like an early FW190 or ME109, that would e considered at least partially wild.
