Okay folks.  the new Badge for participants is up and available in the first thread message.  So zip back to page one and snag yourselves a copy.  I hope you like it.  I designed in in Carrara 3D since I couldn't find any stock images that were wild enough. lol

Rich,

There's the rub, I'm not sure if it's really 'wild' enough.

I'll go with it as a default option but with two weeks to go I'll see if I can come up with something more extreme Wink

Sounds great.  Keep in mind that for this build, you don't want it even close to accurate.  You want crazy wild markings and even AM parts if you can find them.  Imagine a Sopwith Camel with 4 Vulcan Cannons attached to the wingtips, all decked out in Cobalt Blue and Orange. (don't laugh I had a bike those colors when I was a kid...  Looked cool).  It doesn't have to be practical at all.  Just whatever your imagination can come up with.

Good Luck.

Rich

(don't worry about the start date.  You should have plenty of time during the build.  The start date is just an earliest day you can start for the build..)

Gamera

Rich,

It's the 1/48th Hasegawa kit. I picked up an Eduard ZOOM PE set for it but otherwise I would be going out-of--box.

The decals are from Hussar- the third aircraft from the top in this link.

Not sure if I can start on April 1st but other than some Luftwaffe interior paint everything is ready to go.

Thanks!

Go for it.  This one is all about non-comformity and showing our artistic sides.  The kits do not have to be accurate or authentically marked.  We want just the opposite, so get wild my friend.

Rich

(PS, what scale and brand kit?)

Rich: I picked up some decals for a captured RAF Bf-109E a couple of months ago. The plane was used for comparision flights and training. It was repainted with a RAF paint scheme, British roundels, and a bright yellow underbelly. Unlike the F-14 which I'd have to buy (and I really don't need to add anything new to my stash) I've got all the parts I need for the RAF 109 right now. The 109 is a pretty colourful aircraft though it actually did exist, does it fit in with the GB? Your judgement call sir.

Your skills are probably better than mine are nowadays. lol

Hmmm..  Okay.  I was thinking of removing that restriction anyways.  Let's see what kind of weird markings you can give it.  You picked a tough kit.  In some ways, biplanes like this one are harder to do than later aircraft.  Because they are so small and simple, errors and imperfections show more on them.  Go for it.

Ok, the Phantom has been given it's first glue-to-part step... We're off!

Jeez, I forgot how big this sucker is... Haven't built this kit since 1979, when I was doing my first (and only) "Jet Phase", trying to build one of each type of jet aircraft Dad flew during his career...  Monogram was kindly relesing exactly the right kits at the time, too..

This bird is onna need a diorama to show it off properly, and that's gonna make it as big as my P-61 dio, lol...

Yup..  You are in for the F4.  I may be doing that F102 if I can think of a color scheme that will go well with it.

Hey Rich, I don't know if you took me as "officially" in this one or not - Revell's 1/48 F4 Phantom is the subject, in something more interesting than gray over gray...

You're all set.  I'm dying to see that Corsair.  Remember, the wilder the better.

Just came across this build,, I probably am biting off more than I can build..but this sounds fun!

Sign me up for a 1/48 Revell F4U-4 Corsair in "Flying Leathernecks" demonstration team colors...yeah they are only in my head....

I also have a Testors Plated 1/48 F8F Bearcat been figuring what to do with, so put me down for that also...

Thanks!!

Ordered the Tamiya P-47M. Been planning to build one anyway, and figure I'll steal the kit decals for the A-10, then use aftermarket markings on the -M.

It's a 1/32 with an astounding lack of detail, which makes it a perfect palette for a Wild Wings AC.

Sounds good.  Is that 1/48 or 1/32?

OK - I can do a GB that doesn't involve accurate references! Put me in for a big Testor's YF-22A in a scheme that would get me laughed off anyplace else. I've been wanting to desecrate this old kit ever since I "won" it on Ebay, back before there were any real F-22 kits available. After looking at the Coloridos-en-Cielo slide show, I'm sure it'll fit right in!

I love that movie.  And yes, it was the Nimitz with Kirk Douglas commanding it.  I thinnk that color scheme would look awesome on any modern jet. lol

Gamera

I've read good reviews of the Italiei 1/48th A-10. I may be a re-boxing of another kit though.

Really like the idea of this GB but can't commit since I've got over thirty half-completed projects lying around and made a New Year's Resolution to FINISH something instead of starting something new. And I'm going to try to hold myself to it. Still maybe this summer or autumn I might be able to drop in before the end date.

I was thinking about the '80s movie 'The Final Countdown' where the USN carrier (I think she was the Nimitz) goes back though time to just before the Pearl Harbour attack. I was thinking 'what if the Nimitz stayed in '41 and they painted the F-14s in the USN tri-colour blue and white???'

That sounds cool.  I am still not totally decided, but I am leaning towards the Revell F100 in 1/48 scale if I can find one on eBay cheap enough.  Probably totally custom markings.

doogs, nice camo on the Warthog. There also seems to be something funny lookin' about that canopy too! Wink

That would be my mom's fault...

What survives of my old collection is with my parents in Arizona, and the dry climate plays havoc with delicate parts. She does her best to "reposition" things, but inevitably goes and does something like putting the canopy back on backwards.

I'm getting really excited for this GB. I think the blue/blue P-47M camo is going to look great on the A-10, especially with the red rings on the engine pods and the NMF undersides and leading edges. Think I'm going to go all the way with yellow chromate gear bays, dull dark green in the cockpit, etc!

The pilot obviously left that one in reverse gear. I kinda wish I had some pics of my originals. I remember a 1/48 Me262 that I built one, I think it was a Lindberg kit(?). It came molded in a dark green, for the camo I added hand-brushed splotches of metallic emerald green... Ick! I'll blame that one on my Irish lineage!

Well, I'm not planning on dropping coin on either any time soon!

Monogram for me on this build! It'll also be a chance to revisit a kit I built as a kid (well, teenager) and see how my skills have improved:
