Well I see that the build is still soldering along well. It's been a while since I got to update so here we go.

Wow I can't believe it's been so long since I got an update in, well I've been pretty busy and I can guess that I'm on the final run .

Well on with the pics.

The guns track units.

The limber so far...

The main gun assembly.

The loading crane, it is a little beauty..

The tractor is still in subasssemblies at this stae but has since been assembled into one unit.

The metal effect on the tractors tracks I still have to weather them.

Some weathering in the flat bed, I am going with the assumption that mucky boots will leave all kinds of crap that will eventually wash around the flatbed.

The tractor assembled, the tarp has been cut in twqo, I intend to use milliput to create an effect where the tarp has been folded back half way........not 100% sure if I want to go down that road yet.

The rifling in the barrel

THis is what everything will look like when finished, 20inches long approx.

Thanks again for looking in,

Terry.

Posted this in Aircraft and forgot to put it here.  Fast and easy kit.  What next??  bsyamato I had a Revell Bear but built it last year.  I want to get a Trumpy Bear next time.

Nice little quick build kit.  Just a couple hours over three nights.  They sure make some weird looking planes over there.  Fit wasn't bad, all 8 or so decals went on fine.  Chris

Bsyamato, nice job on the little helo.Yes

Terry, that prime mover looks stunning. I'm really looking forward to seeing it and the gun complete.

Chris, nice looking Mig. I am assuming that it's a Mig?

It's been a while since my last post, but I have made a fair bit of progress..

The homebuilt splitter went in OK, as did the pit, with a bit of Blutack for ballast.

As noted previously the fit of the wings was not great either with the upper and lower sections, or their attachment to the fuselage.

Note the amount of filler!

...I got the fuselage together without any major need for filler, just a touch of Mr Surfacer here and there.

I also drilled locating holes for the rear stabs.

This added some strength to the butt joints once the brass wire was inserted.

The fit of the wings to the fuselage was poor, and I ended up cutting off the mounting tabs and sanding the wing flush.

Even so I ended up with a fairly decent fit on top, but with the need to insert strip styrene into the lower joints.

Once everything was together and re-scribed, time for a guide coat of flat black to show any imperfections, and there were lots, which I then had to go back and correct.

The canopy took a fair bit of work with Mr Surfacer to fair it in, and more annoyingly the forward section cracked as I masked it up!

Once I was happy everything was as good as I was going to get it, time for a coat of gloss black.

This was polished to remove any obvious imperfections, then a coat of Tamiya Metallic Grey applied.

This was then masked ready for a coat of Tamiya Chrome Silver. As usual I used two shades of metallic to create some contrast in the final paint finish.

Since those photos were taken the model has been decalled and a wash applied.

Hopefully I'll get to post some more pics tomorrow night.

Karl

Italeri MiG-23 Cuban Air Force. Sorry this is the best I can doEmbarrassed I hope the photos are OK, I am having trouble posting them!! I had to source the tail markings from a MiG-29, as I botched up the kit onesCensored At the moment I am having a fight with my SU-15, as it needed plenty of sanding!!! I will prime it soon to see if there is any more to doHmm

bsyamato - Keep an eye out on Fleabay religiously for a couple of weeks & you may be able to pick one up at a fraction of the normal price (that's where the Blackjack came from).

Some lovely work going on here people, I will echo what has been said about you weathering terry35.

I'm still swamped with a plethora of sub-assemblies & sub-sub-assemblies at the moment & not getting the bench time I would like - I'll hopefully post some progress in the next few days

it's new for me this site, i'll take a look after Stick out tongue

back on the ka-18 diorama:

after the black paint of terrain i give a light earth mix and after drybrush and mix before enamels dry with lots of mixed light brown , white, light yellow and so on. Then put with white glue some grass and stone.

Working with the kamov without rotors (don't glue it again) to check his space in the scene. some advice tips to improve the diorama? in mind to put some raw fence and some tall grass

Bsyamoto the Ka18 looks brilliant, I am constantly amazed by what people can achieve in the smaller scales.

Echo the su85 looks cool congrats on a great build.

Karl your metal work is really convincing well done.

I wish everybody all the best in their progress and to any body on the east coast of the US be safe and I hope everybody gets through this hurricane.

Do I want to add an 1/32 Su-27B Flanker to this GB?..... I'm just itching to start this kit, which will take forever and a day to complete.

Gave away the MiG 3 today, gave it to a guy who has more shelf space than I.

**sorry, but the Su-27B must wait as I've just signed on to another GB...**

Slow progress as usual (first to start & possibly last to finish....). I've managed to get most of the wings, flaps, slats & lift dumpers finished & should hopefully get the fuselage buttoned up at some point  in the next 18 years;

The upper & lower forward fuselage parts had some fit issues as previously mentioned;

To sort this I had planned to weld some styrene sheet along the inside length of the upper fuselage side wall & as far round the blended wing root as possible, but on closer inspection noticed that the cockpit floor & side panels fitted that tightly that there wasn't enough spaceConfused

After a bit of head scratching I cut the hidden area of the cockpit floor where the rear consoles are mounted, flattened down some thick sprue & welded it in, giving me a couple of big locator's, which pulled the upper half in enough to give an acceptable joint - it's by no means perfect & there will still be a bit of tidying to be done when it's completed, but is a fair bit better;

While I was at this I removed a strange raised panel on the upper cockpit side (the pink bit is where it was) & rescribed some of the consequent damage. It looks as if someone at Trumpeter was possibly looking at photos of the Blackjack with the rear cockpit side window blinds in the down position & with the blinds being white missed the rear windows altogether, hence the fix & strange raised section?

Now that it's getting close to the point of closing the fuselage up, I'm really pretty stumped about how to join the 4 main fuselage parts. I'm repeating here, but Trumpeter would have you join the upper cockpit section to the upper fuselage section, likewise for the bottom & then join the two "complete" upper & lower halves together - I don't know why, but it looks like a recipe for disaster to me.

I was going to join the cockpit & fuselage sections separately & then join the completed cockpit to the complete fuselage, but I notice that curvature of the upper blended surface doesn't match perfectly between front & rear & will rely on adhesive holding everything flat & smooth........

I think I'll have to do a fair bit of taping & dry fitting to decide on the best method, but any tips or experience regarding similar issues would be appreciated.

huge plane huge corection needed , just try lots on dry fittings before glue .

a possible tip is to drill in some strategic point the fuselage gluing surface and put some metal pin to avoid unwished movements: the gluing surfase seems enough large to allow this. Good work at all Yes

Thank bsyamato, I'll have a look at that. I'm also thinking that I could use some sprue to assist alignment in the same way as I did with the cockpit section.

Cheers.

Well I'm calling on this one for the  moment, I can only go so far because of the fragility of the gun and I have decided to wait until a base i made to finish this one off. All I really need to do is add a few final pieces and tidy up the weathering and bring it all together.

Well on with the pic's....

I think people prefer pics to a page of typing...

I need to get in with the pastels and pigments, plus a small amount of highlighting on the tracks etc. So far I have really just carried out a couple of washes and oversprayed with a very dilute mix of lifecolour dust.

Thanks for looking,

Terry.

Ozzman, would it be possible to add the completed kits page number on the main page?  It would make it a lot easier to check out all the completed ones.

There is some great build/building here.

Ditto

also want to put in another kit, the mig 23 1/72 from airfix!!

the sprues

houston we have a cockpit!!!!

but i'm sure i'll use only the ip (if the instruments location are corrects)

test fittings

this time the clear canopy fit decently! only the frames are too weak printed, i'll cut in two after.

not too bad the gears but not comparable to the hasegawa/academy flogger kit

raised panels naturally, but this thime i'll rescribe all.

First work on the exhaust

after i'll scratch the afterburner chamber, i did theses works watching the TV in the kitchen, then i used only cutters and glue.

opened the air intakes below part

also the 80% of panel lines was rescribbed and the front gear well was opened (two millimeters of dept don't seems so real Sad )

At first looking when brought this kit i don't like too much (paid 3 or 4  € ) but it take more intresting with the mods opportunity Stick out tongue , plus the plastic is really good despite the orrible silver color (why used this color on kits??)

that's all for the kitchen session
