You guys are all doing an awesome job. I am truly sorry I can't build more right now, but after the summer I'll get cracking. By the way, I will not be able to build or post during most of the summer, so if I don't respond to something, I am not here, but I will get back to you sometime in mid-august .

Great work everyone!

Chazzer, thanks for posting that pic, I've read that guy's story at EnglishRussia.   We 'Muricans tend to think that we won the war, forgetting about the staggering losses suffered by the Russians.

I was going to paint the underside of my MiG 3 last night, but my compressor seems to have mysteriously died 24 hours after AB'ing the panel shading.  Campbell-Hausfeld "Built to Last" my butt....

Ozzman, can you add me with a CyberHobby 1/32 T-34/76?

Well I have fallen in love with the idea of this GB and the subject, so here we go..........

Well last Sunday evening I sat down and started  on the kit, the 150 track links cleaned up very easily and have a snap together feel to them, the kind remind me of the older model kasten sets in colour and presentation and of course workability. Three hours roughly had the tracks ready.

the tractor has a lower hull spotless clean and beautifully produced, in this shot I have added front details and exhausts and final drive housings.

The drive sproxkets had a fair amount of floash but that is no major inconvenience.

Some of the major components,

THe Tarp.

The bonnet, a beautiful piece.

The Cab again excellently done.

THe return rollers just snapped in place for the moment there is six of these sets and more on the suspension assemblies which gives you a total of 20 return rollers.

The underside of the flat bed, this is the only place I have encountered ejector pin marks and filled them. There is more on the back of the suspension assemblies but they are almost invisible.

The flat bed assembled, the interior parts are not glued in yet.

Just a quick shot of what we are looking at so far,

Now for the intensive/boring bit, 64 road wheels.

These glue together in pairs and are mounted in sets of four.

This is the suspension assembly, two springs which literally clip in place and two return rollers, there is pin marks on the back of these but they will be hidden by the hull.

The progress so far, not glued up for the moment because I need to spray in sub assemblies.

All together so far this accounts for just under 10 hours work.

This is an expensive kit €38.

Maybe not as expensive as a new Tamiya or Dragon release. The quality is certainly up there. Its a great subject, and on another note I have never recommended a kit that would be great for a first armour build but this is. I love it.

Thanks for looking in.

Terry.

If cross overs are allowed can I join with my 1/72 Airfix Mig 15?

I've just started it for the Mig Alley GB.

Failing that, put me down for an AZ Models 1/72 Mig 17.

Terry, thanks for that photo- it certainly looks intriguing and I'll mull it over as I look for a new AB compressor.  What book is that out of?  I'm always looking for good color profiles for future builds.

Are you going to add many details to that tractor, or straight OOB?   It is a sturdy looking machine.

Started the T-34/76 on Friday night, I'm not documenting it nearly as much as the MiG as I was caught up in a building frenzy... turret is almost finished, superstructure is on the hull, road wheels and suspension are done and I've got several more hours of the fiddly bits to put on and it'll be ready for paint.  Of all the CyberHobby/DML kits I've done, this one is easily one of the simplest, most straight-forward builds out there, especially if you forego the PE.   It seems that 1/3 of the parts aren't used on this version- I've got 3 or 4 different engine louvers, back plates, hatches and whatnot for the spares box.   This kit even has an aluminum barrel on the Dragon card, plus one solid plastic barrel and another 2-piece plastic barrel...  I think that I'll use the aluminum barrel with the contest seam.

Late tommorow night ought to see the assembly completed on this weekender....  I'm running out of Russians!

Put me down for both then.

Here's where I am with the Mig 15.

I've used the Eduard Zoom set for this build, not sure why as the canopy will be staying closed.

Fuselage halves are now joined and drying on the bench.

OK, I can't stand it anymore.  Big Smile  I haven't touched a model in a long while, but this GB might be the stimulis I need to get the paint stirring.  Dug this piece out of the basement stash and  hopefully the photo will show up properly.  I did some preliminary research on the vehicle's actions in Afghanistan.  I've also checked on the Ertl kit and cringed when I read about the problems concerning multi-section plastic tracks.  So if you've got room for another AFV, I'll give it a go.

Great starts here!! Cool

jrb53 long time not see an original Esci box Bow Down

Lots of veichles now here. Hope to get one little somenthing in 1/72 before GB end.

A little resume of the ka-18 with last updates , just yesterday closed the fuselage.

complete box pieces

the giant

sprues in detail, a pure short run kit (ok , surely better than old aeroclub short kits)

one of rotors glued, at least the plastic work good with tamiya plastic glue and the rotor have good bendind tollerance.

four seat helicopter he is, i will modify all seats in height and detail it.

control tail surfaces, these pieces not too bad, only lots of attention on sandig and gluing in right place. original pins need to be modified with better holes

partial cockpit finished

i'll put the helo in a rural diorama, used the only type of civilian i have, preiser 1/87 figures .

in a first time i was convinced to use original ip, but one of few pictures that you can find on the web is about the ip, Wrong, then scratch the new with 3 layer of plastic

Original controls replaced

the top control stic is just wrapped with a tape piece and fixed with ca glue

Even for the clear i convinced to use original piece, but after various try with a candle and clear plastic sheet the new piece is really better than original

original on the left

and the new one with structure scribbed, really clear Yes the difficult will be on fix it with some glue.

latest updated , figures finished and gluing the fuselage

under tape pressure after gluing... proportion with mig-31 are really ***!

lots of putty probably needed

that's all for now

Some mighty fine scratch work going on for such a small subject!

Have the passengers just been to MacDonalds - Macdonalds or have they been to the King?

Thanks ozzman for cranking up this GB.  The WIP from the group are really impressive (and intimidating for a beginner like me).  Bow Down

Is it too late to join theparty?  I'm finishing up a 1/72 Il-2 Sturmovic (pics on the way in another thread) and next on the block is a 1/72 I-5 biplane from ICM.  If it's not too late, I'll post some box 'n' sprue shots tonight.  I hope to start the build this weekend.

Cheers,

--Jeff

Welcome to the new-comers to this GB and an update on my Made in the USSR product line...

I got a new compressor- a reasonably priced, but LOUD Campbell-Hausfeld 1 gallon pancake job from Wally-World- it's a step up from my old one as I can now control the output psi with a greater degree of accuracy.  So that means that I got the basic paint on my MiG 3 today ;- topside is a blend of MM acrylic Medium Green and Olive Drab, and then lightened a touch for shading, which didn't show up... I can't decide if I want to go back and add more tonal variation or not.  Underside is um....  RLM 78.   A/C panel shading is still a mystery to me- it seems that a heavy hand is better than a deft touch when doing this.

I got all of the assembly completed to the T-34/76 today, so it is ready for painting.  I'll add a set of Friuls as I don't much care for MagicTracks.   I used the bare minimum of kit-supplied PE as I was speed-building this one.  I still can't believe that this kit is DML and not Tamiya for the ease of assembly.

So that's all for now, I don't know what I'll get done this week as I'm on the late shift and have to go the dragstrip all of Friday and Saturday.

Wohoo, I'm in!  These are my first pictures on this forum, so hopefully I performed the correct incantations.

Here's what I'm building:

It's so dainty!

I really like the box art, so I'm going to try and build it as close to that as I can.  According to the text, this is "The second prototype of I-5 -- the personal aircraft of Red Army Air Force Chief J. Alksnis, 1931".  I think it's this guy's aircraft:  Yakov Alksnis

Too bad the kit did not include a pilot figure.

Jeff, that is going to look so cool- I've never done a biplane myself.

Bsyamato, no, they're just dry-fitted for to photo.  They'll be painted the easy way, no worries.

T-62A progress:

Not proceeding as fast as I might on this.  No specific reason.  Here's some photos of model primed in flat black.

Will follow with Model Master Russian Armor Green thinned 50/50.

The flat black doesn't lend itself to photos.  The MM Russian Armor Green is a really nasty green,  I think I'll try a 50/50 mix with MMTan and apply it to the upper surfaces of the model.  Maybe that will simulate some weathering and dust.

Thanks for looking.

Mike, is the small turret antenna bent?   Kinda looks that way in the top pic.   I usually break something off during the painting- that MiG's antenna has been glued back twice now....lucky I found it the second time.  Still gotta find the tail wheel, which went MIA sometime on Saturday.Super Angry

Isn't Herr Feldmarschall historically out of place?

The Feldmarshall stands where he wishes. Wink

Re the antenna -- I was going to replace it with stretched sprue later on.

Your MiGis looking very good.  Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the props, but I'm not too happy with the paint right now- I had put down flat black along all of the major panel lines, and then started to add the green in very light passes inside the lines with the intent of getting those lovely dark areas on the lines and nada for the effort.  I might as well just blast it with one wet coat and get the same result....   hopefully I can regain that effect with Tamiya Clear Smoke once I get all of the decals on...

Stretched sprue- I've never had any luck with that, so I use stiff wire instead.  Hopefully you'll get a better result.

Aber Naturlich, mein Feldmarshall, Entschuldigung Sie Mir!

You've recommended Tamiya Clear Smoke before.  I really must try it.  I'm going to let the Russian Armor Green set for another evening and tomorrow try some lighter mixes applied over the upper surfaces.

These GB's force me out of my comfort zone to try new things.  I'm glad Ozzman set this up.

How do you guys get those photos to come out so crisp?  Mine look like crap. Crying

Started the BMP tonight and found some "battle damage."  Looks like it took a hit just above the rear door.  And since it appears to have been an ejector pin punching through, I tried a piece of sprue for a plug.  Seems like it might hold.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:100:0]

Also drilled out holes through the teeth of the drive sprockets, there are only 54 of them.  I had noticed this in some BMP photos and I was afraid someone would flame me if I left them solid.  I tried to show the comparison in  a photo, but it was one of the really crappy ones.  The idler wheels were no problem.  I also distressed the roadwheels a little and put a few chips on the edges.  Below is the result of tongiht's labor.  I know, it doesn't seem like much, but I spent half my time looking for my old tools. Embarrassed

jrb:

1 -- photos, just lucky; any skill I exhibit in either kit building or photography is a result pf luck. Embarrassed

2 -- Looks like you've solved your problem very well, I'd have never thought of that. Yes

3 -- looking forward to more WIP photos; I've got a couple of BMP's in the 25 year stash, almost built one for this GB, but changed my mind.

Cheers! Toast
