Larry:

Yes, the Long Tom.

PSP#35039. You get 10 tires & wheels cast separately -- WW2/Korea era. Actually to be correct, I think the tires include wheel hubs cast together & you get a separate "wheel cover". Regardless, they are very nice -- good detail & not much junk on 'em.

$25 from Mission Models, but I think I got all they had.
You might try other places.

Hey John, you're building a Long Tom or an 8" howitzer too, right? Where'd you get those replacement wheels? I'm building for WWII also, and I may wind up getting those. Give me a review! Are they a mess or cleanly cast? Are they just wheels or do they have the tires cast on?

I hadn't planned on using the PE on the gun, and I'm glad I didn't invest he money now. Thanks.

OTOH, not much else has happened because of numerous interruptions. I am working the gun tube, the carriage, the trails, the bogies, and the limber in parallel with emphasis on the limber.

On the Limber I'm trying to upgrade the detail by adding air brake hose & etc. I'll cover the details of that when I have pix to post ...

The Eduard PE is really un-necessary. The AFV Club molding is fine & crisp (despite sinkholes & etc) and can be brought into scale with a little sanding stick easier than screwing with the PE. And since the Eduard PE does nothing to help me add the missing detail, well ....

Haven't updated the web site yet, wanted more progress ....

Larry,

The color of the close-up pics are more or less what the actuual colors are. The one with the dio has the light farther away so it appears that the color is much darker.

About finishing these things...I kinda agree with you there Larry. With kids around the house, it seems harder to give these kits time. My own schedule for this build has been very much delayed and I can't seem to find enough time anymore...

Anyway, thanks. I managed to paint some figs last night but no major progress there.

Not sure it matters too much, as my scratchbuilt Panzerwerfer has literally dozens of innaccuracies, I just needed a starting point.

Hoping my SiG 33 will be all dio'd up by the end of the week.

How's that big gun going Larry?

Matt

It's not. I peeter out. I can't seem to finish anything. Well, I have three kids, so there are some things I finish. Smile [:)]

I'm going to try to get a lot done tonight. Yeah right.

Hey Matt, for what it's worth:

http://www.verlinden-productions.com/vp_htm_0401_0800/vp0703.htm

I know the casings are accurate -- I've read references to them being feldgrau (although I seem to recall them having text stamped on them in white letters). I dunno about the rockets themselves. Wouldn't they have been color coded? There were several different kinds of rockets.

Sorry not to be of more help.

Yup, scarf it up in Thundergod's post a few items up. It's a khaki howitzer.

Dwight, wow, looks terrific! Question though. There is a huge difference in the darkness of the two pictures above. Which one is a more accurate representation of the color of the model?

Oh my it seems like this thing is taking me forever to build. I could never find enough time to sit down and really work on it. Anyway, I have so far applied some sort of weathering on the gun and the bogeys. I hope I can have time to do the figures, tonight.

OK here is how she looks for now:

And just trying out the base of the dio:

Hmmmm. I don't know but I think I am in for another dirty dio...

Big Smile [:D]

Laugh [(-D]

I can laugh at it! When you are as clumsy as I am, you learn to.

It is all fixed up. by the way, I am going to start a base for it tomorrow. The sooner it is glued down, the better.

How about a bomb crater dio and just scatter the pieces about?

What's that? Not Funny!!! What-da-ya-mean, 'Not Funny'????

Cheers! Andy

Oh no! Happens to the best of us, and it happens to me too. Tongue [:P] Imagine how I felt after spending literally days building, painting and weathering my Friuli panther treads and then being literally unable to make them fit on the kit. Stiff upper lip and all that!

Good golly, Ms. Molly! Here's what I wrote before in response to Scorn's question:

Scorn, there is tons of time -- til July! And this is open to all. And the subject is a great weekender. Pick up a six pounder, build it over the weekend, paint it desert sand and you are done!

And all of that clearly means, no, Scorn may not join the Group Build. Laugh [(-D]

Yes, anyone can join! You can join on June 30, do your kit in a day, and be a full-fledged Towed Gun maven!

Thank you very much petbat, the posted pic helps a LOT in clearing this up. I had allready created interior framework supporting the top, so this weekend hopefully I'll have time to continue on this. I have to modify the kit parts to the folded down position, but that shouldn't be too difficult.
Last night, all I had time for was to airbrush all the flat black pieces of the two kits. If anything, I'll at least start work on the dio base.

Hi gang.

Came home from a long day at work today, all ready to give my SiG 33 a clear flat, and then claim my badge......

But...

I late change in the weather had blown my gun off my workbench (I work outside).
Damage was minimal. One wheel broke off, and the gun shield was slightly askew. I reglued both, and then had the brainwave of holding the shield in place with a rubber band, which was promptly provided by my flatmate. Unfortunately, after a long days driving, I was tired, and whilst carrying out my brainwave, I dropped it.

Dislodged the main carriage.
Rebroke the wheel.
Broke a handle.
Broke a tiedown thingy.
Chipped the paint.
Broke, and lost, a scratchbuilt breech handle.
Broke the shield.
Broke the scratch detailed sight.

I was fairly distraught, but tried to keep my sense of humour intact, laughed at my clumsiness, and set about repairs whilst I still was in shock! (My flatmate made me a strong coffee!)

I have mostly fixed and touched it up, and it looks okay, I will do the balance tomorrow.
Then I am going to make a simple base, pose a couple of frankenfigures, and try and put this one to bed.

Blush [:I]Hope you people don't think I'm trawling for sympathy; it was all my own stupid fault afterall, just wanted to share one of those horrid little mishaps that occur from time to time, and let you know that I pushed on!Smile [:)]

Hopefully I can show you all pics in a couple of days; I was/is very happy with it!

Welcome aboard Scorn!

Matt

Scorn,
On the last page (or earlier somewhere) I read someone say "welcome to the gb" to you.... but if you missed it, then please jump in now.

Some people work faster than others, some build more complex pieces than others. Either way the GB has a span of time (i forget when it ends) but its not done yet Tongue [:P]

I am also building Russian pieces (zis3 and (2) 45mm at guns in defense)

Tigerman,

I know exactly what you mean. The other problem is that I am in the Small AFV GB and D-Day GB, too.

Well, I guess I have to stop using them badges, he-he-he.

Ran into some problems with my paint supply last weekend so was never able to get anything done. Just got the paints yesterday and started the weathering last night.

May have gone overboard on the dirt, too. Oh well I just try to see how it would look with the whole dio set-up.

BTW, it is good that we have selected the official badge for the GB.
