Tigerman,

Yeah I know, actually when I introduced myself to the forums a month or two ago i mentioned I was working on a towed gun, so the originator of this thread (sorry, can't put my finger on the name just now) pointed me in the direction of this group build.

I do realise it begins in April, although as I only just finished the kit I thought you guys might not mind if I posted some pics even though I'm early.

Tell you what, I'll post them in a separate thread, with a link in this one.
Problem solved!

Actually Mark, the group build is to commence on Arpril 15. This is for new builds only.

Howdy all,

Is this the right place to post pics of our finished Towed Gun models???
I haven't read the thread in YONKS, so I might've lost the plot a little... let me know, and if it's all good I'll throw up a few nice pictures of my project.

Cheers,
Mark

Hey Boyd, if you are looking for a published reference, try German Flak in WWII by Werner Muller. Has lots of photos of German FLAK guns that you won't find anywhere else.

Hey all,

I asked this question before, but the discussion took a different turn, so I didn't get a response, so I'll try again.

Does anyone have references or sites with good photos of German WWII towed arty, particularly the AA stuff, like the Flak 37 and Flak 38? I'm trying to figure out how accurate the Tamiya kits are and to get some ideas for my build.

Thanks...

I got the link up today muzzleflash88. Thanks! The interior looks surprisingly detailed. I was actually thinking of doing mine with the top folded down!

muzzleflash, I was unable to open the buildup link. I open it, but I get a no content page with this message: This User Hasn't
Moved in yet.
I'd love to see the buildup, if you have a chance to look at what's wrong with the link. Maybe it's just isolated to me, but I doubt it.

hey ILuv3ggs, which helicopter are you referring to?
I like your idea. I was playing call of duty a couple of days ago and there is a scene in there fairly reminiscent of what you are speking of, except it was set in an airfield. That game is absolutely amazing, I think I'll use it for ideas for my own dio :)

All i can say is whoa, that helicopter is huge, and sadly, proberly too hard for my skill level Sad [:(] thanks for the idea tho, i'll add it to the list of future things to model and create

I've thought of a new idea tho, was thinking of having a German AT gun and its crew on a bank on the side of a road, maybe with an MG nest to one side as well, this would be a first for me diorama and figure speaking wise tho Black Eye [B)]

Frosty,
it might be your browser.
i have the same problem when i am on my home PC, but from work i have no difficulty.

All,
on the 'Russian Front' , i have the SU-122 available.
it is the Italeri 1/35, molded in Irish Spring. i mean wxy looking green styrene.
Big Smile [:D]

but i also have the British Quad Gun tractor w/ 25 pounder,
the tamiya 88mm, a tamiya Pak 35/36 37mm.

depending on my workload come April, i will figure out what to build.
if i have lots of time, i might go big or do a few kits,
otherwise it will be whatever looks simplest!

Thanks for the link Jon.

I've seen the Demag w/nebelwerfer at a few shops, has me tempted muzzleflash. I just don't know if i want to fiddle with all those wheels. There were plenty on the old Panther.

Still holding out for AFV's Pak 40.

Someone else said they were unable to find the kit online. It's a fun build I hope you find one.

Good luck, have fun,

I still have not completely decided myself. I have the 88mm gun flak from tamiya along with their 8ton halftrack. I want to build a dio for this build, so I'm undecided between this setup, a demag with a flak 43 (I'd use the tamiya figures from one of the other sets) or the serbian artillery crew set. The only problem with that one is that I don't know where I could find appropriate figures. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok, so I'm a bit slowww. Anyone on this group build building that AFV Club 88mm Pak 43/41 kit which has been recently released? I've just put my order in at GreatModels for one, plus a Tamiya Sd Kfz 7 8-ton Half-track. Was wondering if anyone could give a quick review of the 88mm Pak kit?

Thanks in advance!

Yep. I read the review that was a link FROM THEIR OWN SITE. No markings. It's kind of a pi$$0**, but whatever. At least it'll let me parctice making markings. I don't know if I want to hand paint the lettering though. Anyone know where I can pick up Cyrillic decals, or stencils.
Hmm..maybe I could just make my own :)

Yer kiddin' me! So they just repackage the gun and truck and don't give you new decals? Censored [censored]Censored [censored]Censored [censored]Censored [censored]!!!

Just went over to Alanger to take a look at the ICM kits. Ended up ordering the Artillery of the Serbian Army, Kosovo 1999. Absolutely great price. All of their kits are on sale till March 12th, so I got a really good price on this package. I think I will end up building it here.

Hehe, I'm really getting excited for this build now :)

Maybe I'll pick that up. Probably not for this build, but I still want that kit. It looked really nice. Any place on the net I can get it for fairly cheap?
I think I'll go with the demag towing the flak 43 for this, since I want to build a dio for it, and this will save me some real-estate on my display shelf(ves) :)

Sounds like the ICM gun and truck combo. They are packaging the heck out of those two kits. It's actually a Russian gun too, the 100mm AT gun from way back in WWII. The truck is a post-war vehicle. Apparently they are a popular pair in the satellite countries of the former USSR. One package has the combo fighting with the Serbs in Kossovo, another has them fighting for the Northern Alliance in the "anti-terrorist operations" in Afghanistan. (For the northern alliance, I'm not sure how strongly the "war on terror" resonates. Tongue [:P])

Probably just different decals, which is actually a great idea. The kits themselves are supposed to be truly top-notch offerings. ICM has a very good reputation.

hey maffen, that c7p is a great idea. I can't wait to see that getting built up. I've never built anything from Mirage, so feel free to comment on it.
I imagine the kit at 320 pieces for something of that size to be a fairly complicated build.
Kudos for doing the different thing.
There is one kit I was looking at, don't recall whom it was from. Russian truck towing a piece of Serbian artillery. Anyone know?
That looked fairly interesting as well.

still keen tho, and i am sure i'll find something

Hey, how about the Rooskies? An Mi-4 carrying some russian gun? You could do it as some African country's chopper, for the various bush wars, or maybe Cubans in Angola (this is off the top of my head, and you'd need to do some research, a'course).

Trumpeter makes a Mi-4 in 1/35th scale. It must be pretty darned big! Here's a link to a build-up. I'll bet some of the poorer countries it was supplied to used it to move guns around.

Totally cool. That is exactly what I had in mind when I started this group build! I'd actually like to do a Japanese artillery piece, but the kits available are mostly expensive, hard to get and fiddly all-metal builds. I considered an Italian gun too, but I didn't find anything. I'll bet there is a resin kit of some Italian towed gun though. I stopped looking for more obscure pieces, though, when I fell in love with the Mack NO truck and started hunting for the Azimut kit.
