ARMOR - Towed Gun Group Build (ends 7/1/04)

Boyd, since you have so many kits that qualify for the build, just build one now, but it won't count towards the group build. You'll still have more to choose from.

Thanks Zokissima and Stephen for your comments. It just got harder. Too many choices. Is the Revell Demag available anywhere? I was thinking maybe that towing a Pak 38.

I've been a little excited about this group build (it'll be my first one). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to check in recently and participate in these discussions (little thing called the Ph.D. Candidacy exams got in the way, but that's behind me now

Anyways, I've been so excited about this that I can't seem to stop buying kits! A few weeks ago, I picked up the two german AA guns I mentioned in an earlier post (the Flak 37 and Flakverling 38, along with the British Universal weapons carrier). Then I was in Hobby lobby on an errand for the wife, and I picked up a Pak 40. THEN I was BACK in Hobby Lobby (just because this time) and I picked up the British Quad tractor and 25 pounder!

I've got two problems right now: first, I don't know which kit(s) to build for this group build and, second, if this thing doesn't start soon, my wife will divorce me and I'll be broke from buying new towed arty kits! April 1 can't get here soon enough!

Hey, anyone got any good references for any of the above (preferably online ones, so I don't have to pay for books... I do want to keep my wife, afterall...

Lol, yeah I'm awful tempted to start too. Gotta start the M1A1 first though, and finish it before I start any of these.
I put together some pieces of the flak 43,so maybe I'll go with that being towed by the demag

i actually started this kit awhile back but i needed the weekend group build & this one 2 help motivate me 2 work on it some more !
BTW, this is a braille scale item, the completed dio will b about 6 inches square.

I agree, it's not a bad kit at all. Even the originall revell kit was fairly decent, with semi-individual track links, good panel lines, good definition on the parts. I may actually end up building that for this build. Not sure yet tho

I've done the kit and its not that bad.I think they cleaned up the molds or retooled them.I didn't think it was to bad a kit.-----------Stephen

The italeri demag is just a repackaged revell model (that's what I've been told anyways)
their nebelwerfer I don't know anytihng about. I assume the combo is just the packaging of these two units. THe demag is a nice model, but I don't know anything about the neberwerfer

If it Robert, and I was thinking it might be, then I wouldn't touch it with 10 ft. exacto knife.

Everytime I think I know what I'm going to get, something else pops in my head. I vote for a half-track group build when this is finished, even though you could build one for this. LOL Oh Larry, I wish you woulda said gun build. Aaarggh.

This one sounds like a blast, so I think I'm in this. Probably won't manage to start on time, since this is coinciding with the M1 abrams build. But whatever, it'll be fun.
I was thinking of doing either an italeri flak 43 being towed by the revell demag 7 OR doing a tamiya 88mm gun flak being towed by the italeri opel maultier.
Suggestions?

Kenneth: You definetly made the right call on the precharge , I have found when I do that at a local store , it always seems to miraculously go on back order for well lets see FOREVER!!!! , so I will not do that anymore , nor would I recommend anyone else do it !

My experience with internet hobbies has been good , they got the stuff to me real quick , so i would have to recommend them . I do also believe that letting you know and follow your shipment is key to doing good business on the net ( which they also do BTW ) you know tracking # and the like , just to give you piece of mind .

I thought it might be a typo, but nobody else has one. Has anyone ordered from internethobbies? I saw some stuff there.

Tigerman, Luck my they won't let me have it.... It seems they want me to prepay for all the stuff I have ordered (a lot) before they will ship it... I was like "howabout no! Before they only charge me when an item is shipped not when it is ordered ..... dangit!!!

Tigerman, what currency was that Pak 40. $80! The AFV club Pak 43/41 is only $40 AUD ($31USD).

All these talk about starting early is making my hands itchy. He-he-he. Actually I need something to keep my sanity intact right now that I am doing a ship. So please don't condemn me if I start already....

The color i chosen is dessert yellow and i will have some black lining all over it, I have started just a little on it, but that is becuase my Lizardqing2 that is was going on now, but then I realized it wasn't until April of when the group build is to start. , and now in March chris is going to the model show and I was thinking about going to bring my towed gun build, not sure what to do yet I'll keep informed.

Yeah the chopper alone is a build in and of it self!

Kenneth, remember the Pak 40 from AFV? Well on www.discountplasticmodels.com they had it on backorder for only $79.99! Must be the real deal. Guess I will get the German 105mm late.

i am still having trouble finidng the correct Chinook, and the M198 is still out of stock, so if worst comes to worst, i might build instead a black hawk with a 105 under it instead, i know that both those kits exists

I think i'll go ahead and get started on my Gun Tractor and 25 pounder to Littlemoe. I f I start early I should actually finish it! I still haven't decided on color. It will have to be desert sand or something else other than OD if I can find another color option...
