Latch,
remember, despite the growing post count and the itchiness of the members,
we don't start for anoher month!

so, who knows?

Sorry everyone,

I'm going to have to watch this one from the side lines.

I thought I could participate, but things at work are not going to allow me to commit.

Best of luck to everyone, and have a great build!!!

Well, the SIG 33 was around that weight -- though in the upper end. It weighed a little less than 2 tons. I don't think the RSO would have had a lot of trouble pulling it., but the better vehicle would be the SdKfZ 11. I'll bet the RSO was put into service towing the SiG33 though -- the Germans made more RSO's than they did SdKfZ 11's (not including Hanomag's of course).

nice pick of the sdkfz from AFV towing a field artillery piece.

I'm still (somewhat) patiently waiting for my ICM kit. Stupid allanger charged my credit card, so at least I know money is out of my pocket. Now if only I had the kit...

Thanks Petbat!

I checked out the Sdkfz 11's today at the LHS. They look good, but I mught just have to see how the budget is going in April! Checked out a couple of the Italeri truck kits, and they were probably a bit more realistically priced. Would be nice to do something other than a half, track; I have made several, am making one now, and have two planned! I should really branch out a bit!!!

If you want to go halftrack, the SdKfz 11 as recommended already is a great choice to partner the Sig 33 (AFV club make an early and late 11) as it was rated at 2.72 tonnes (3 tons), and towed the leFH 18 105mm field pieces easily. Just make sure you don't get the SdKfz 11 that is fitted out for use as a nebelwerfer support vehicle!!!

If not, Italeri make Blitzes and Mercedes for a reasonable amount, so they could be an option.

I don't see why not. The primary use of the RSO was as a prime mover for towed gunfs. If I had to choose one vehicle though, I think I'ld go with the SdKfz 11. I think AFV Club makes one.

The Italeri Opel Blitz, Mercedes, and Maultier are all fairly nice kits at very reasonable prices. If you're down to those three, you won't be disappointed

Usually a large truck like a Mercedes, Magrias or Opel (the Italeri Blitz would be okay). Halftracks seem to be used for transporting AT guns rather than artillery, of course exceptions did exist.

Yeah, I think that's right. I think they did use the SdKfZ 11 fairly regularly to haul the SiG33, though, as it was a pretty heavy gun for its intended purpose, which was a rather awkward situation for all involved. Tongue [:P] But horses and trucks were used all the time too.

It was pulled by a variety of things -- trucks, light half tracks, and horse teams. I'll see if I can find out if there was a designated prime mover, but I don't think there was.

You are a bad man Larry!

Does anyone know off the top of their head what the Germans used to tow the 15cm Sig33 field gun?

I'm still waiting for my ICM kit to come in. I'm getting a little worried actually. I ordered off the site, and got a confirmation, but also got some stupid discout that was dated with an exiration date PRIOR TO MY ORDER DATE?!? So I hope everything went smoothly with it.

Hey Peter, you are certainly in the right continent for replacement tracks for the RSO! IIRC WWI Productions makes them, and if they are anything like the Pershing treads I have, you will love them.

Looking forward to seeing what you will come up with!

Wow, so many messages in here! Have been busy with other projects so I have not checked in here for a little while... Big mistake! Anyway, my Italian project got relegated to oblivion, for the time being in any case, and I'm working on a little diorama that will feature amongst other things a Puppchen ant-tank weapon and its towing vehicle. I should have 'on the go' pics very soon. At the moment I'm busy chopping away (you'll see what I mean soon!!)Evil [}:)] This is of course 1/76.

Petbat, you are a lucky so and so. I was patting myself on the back for getting a Kommando Panzer and a Sdkfz for $30!

I have a Pak 40 in the cupboard which I may do for the build, but I am still got my eyes peeled for something a bit different.

Get any bruises for your trouble?

Went to my club meeting on Saturday, and one of the guys was selling off kits to make room for new ones. I got the Tamiya SdZfz 7 with the updated crew (to go with my 88), the Italeri RSO towing Pak 40 and the Tamiya Stug 3 G all for AUD $60 (about $45 USD). The Stug alone is $60 AUD at my LHS.

You sould have seen it, arms and elbows going everywhere, almost as bad as a post christmas sale crush, except not a handbag to be seen.Tongue [:P] Missed out on the Acadamy M12 and M51 by a cat's whisker, they were at the other end of the table. Can't complain though or I would just be too greedy.

I was going to do my Krupp Protze and 3.7mm for this build, but now am undecided what am I going to build. I'll need replacement tracks for the SdKfz 7 and RSO, so availability may still point me to the Krupp. Besides no one else seems to be doing that combo.

Sorry Mark, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything. Nice build on your gun. Hey if you got anything else you still can jump in the group build.

OK folks,

As I've jumped the gun and finished WAY early, I've posted the pics in a separate thread rather than this one... here's the link:
