Recite the litanies, fire up the Gellar field, a poo storm is coming
Check out my blog here.

tamiya 1/48 mosquito $20+ shipping
hobby boss 1/48 F-105G. wings and fuselage cut from sprue. $40+ shipping.
Badge grabbed, thanks for hosting this GB. I'm building another Airfix kit (HMS Amazon) over on the Falklands/Malvinas GB, so I'll post the odd picture here just to keep it bubbling along.
I hope that Airfix do well out of this and do some more new British ship kits, particularly subs. Then again, I hope they do more 1/32 car kits, and more aircraft, and...
Cheers
Tony
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
Great job on the sub taxtp
Well done, ill get that front page update. Feel free to grab the badge any time.
Fine work Taxp
rtoo speed makes ugly results, too relax don't make results
taxtp
Hey, it's smiling at me!!!! Nice work. I've never tried my hand at a submarine, may have to give it a go at some point.
On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister
My HMS Trafalgar has come together pretty quickly. I need to do a second coat on the prop, and one or two little touch ups around it, and maybe accentuate the panel lines some more, although they show up better to the naked eye than they do under my terrible photographic skills. It's near enough to being done that I'm calling it.
Note that it's not attached to the stand, so the lean is temporary :)
Overall I'd say it's a very pleasant kit, and one that certainly makes me enthusiastic about trying some more of new 'New' Airfix releases.
out of the scout i have the little cayuse from italeri but next time will look for huge russian copters
Good bunch of helos there. I like to see collections like that. Maybe I should build some more...
bsyamato age coming on i hope nothing serious Vance
age coming on
i hope nothing serious Vance
I'm sure a few days home will cure it!
That's a nice-looking bunch of helicopters bsyamato! I need to sit down without anyone else at the house & get my Heinkel finished up here soon. Maybe I feel a "sick day" coming on ~cough cough~
Nice work on the little Trafalgar
build more helicopter Taxtp ,it's too funny
This is the result of 20 years of helicopters ,all in 1/72
After looking better to the scout engine ii replaced the exhausts too!! are totally wrong on the kit
First attempt
and the second was better
now it's time to fill the engine with lots of cables and conductors
Good progress on the Scout. I built that thing many many years ago, in fact, it's the only 1/72 Helo I've ever attempted.
I've got the Trafalgar to the decal stage. Here's some photos in it's gloss black coat, with fresh decals. It will get a coat of dullcote and some shading and weathering with chalk pastels in the next 48 hours or so.
Looks way too shiny right now, but I think it will be quite striking in black. The other subs I've built are shades of grey.
This is the first time I've used Mr Mark Setter as a decal setting agent. It looks to be quite a good product.
Scout updates
Tail rotor striped
And start to add pieces on the engine
The first light prime revealed a couple of spots that needed some tidy up...
Hopefully this next prime won't show any more.
Thanks for the pic. The photo depicted on the box art shows a really distinctive tiled effect on the conning tower. The photo here illustrates what I'm trying to say, and also shows some tile like detail on the hull.
I think the seam I filled is meant to be separation, however it is is really wide and uneven and can't be left as such. I've use the fill and wipe method, so the fill is slightly recessed and will be treated with a black wash to highlight it.
The skin of the sub is surprisingly smooth. What your seeing in the "Tiled" effect is actually variations in the colour of the skin.
Unless your talking about the decking?
That seam you filled. Are you sure it was a seam and not the gap between the prop hub and the fuselage (or whatever its called on a sub)
Thanks. here's a pic. The white thing under the Conning tower is a bit of plastic card I've used to replace a part that I couldn't find. Not sure if I lost it or it was missing, but probably the former.
You can just make out a white line of putty in front of the prop, that's a pretty ugly seam.
Other than that, I'd say I was surprised that the kit doesn't depict the tiled effect visible on the real craft, but it goes together easily enough.
It'll give it a prime tonight, to see how it goes.
Eventually I'll spray it 'near black', so that I can use pure black for the panel lines and weather accordingly.
yeah sure. Ill update the front page.
Wow, this is a fantastic GB. I've been working on their 1/350 HMS Trafalgar submarine. Could I sign up please ? I've done most of the construction, but that's only a couple of hours work, it's a simple kit. It's completely bald and unpainted at this stage, and there are still some seams to clean up. The kit was released in July 2010.
Yes, I was mixing my own olive-green colour for that & once sprayed on & dried next to the other green... way more brown than I had planned on. This isn't a contest-build by any means, so I'm just going to leave it as it is.
Good updates Vance strange thing about the use of the upper brown
No, actually she's very good with the "look, don't touch" rule. Almost always makes an appearance during any particular kit build for an inspection. Hangs out for a few minutes & leaves without touching. Like she's reporting back to someone...
Very nice Vance! Looks like the agent is planning which part to eat...at least that is what mine does

NOW it's an official build, having been inspected by an agent...
I decided to skip the airbrush & go manual on the mottling, going with airbrush-thinned paint on a qitip, dabbing it on randomly. I'm not convinced I love it yet, but consider a 1/72 groundcrewman with a spray gun - how tight would the pattern really look?? I may overspray the mottle with a thin RLM 65 to tone it down some.
Landing gear & wheels are done, need to take pics. I've started masking the cockpit glass, hoping to finish that up tonight.
Nice work guys. Front page is updated.
Griffin RRB and Vance - Great work on both models. Vance - you mentioned the green overspray - you could always re-mask it.

I could remask... or I can be happy with what I have!
