then airbrush inside. I would image the humidity levels would be a bit better. I use the bathroom. Tile floors are easier to clean!!

...Or try your hand at brush-painting!

I used to like those PSA birds! I remember them quite well and fondly! But the Bearcat sounds like a perfect weekend build too!

I've decided to go with the Bearcat - 2 reasons why - the Electra has a complex paint scheme and I don't know that I can finish it over the weekend, so  I'm going to do the Bearcat - scheme undecided as yet ...

The fan base?  I equate them with most of the criminals I deal with on a daily basis on patrol. I have booked more Raiders hats into prisoner property than I can count. Just part of the 'thug life' mentality in my experience. But the Chargers never did anything for me. Yes, they are closer to my home than SF, but if its SF vs SD, I'm rooting for the 9ers...Wink

I have to agree about the Oakland fan base ... Oakland vs San Diego has been a problematic rivalry since the AFL days - waaay back when !! ...

Weather is turning rather ugly here ... s'posed to be in the mid-30's tonight ... guess I'll be spraying paint in the bath should it continue through the weekend ... too cold for the garage for sure ...

Razordws I gotta say I have a great baby sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She told me if its too cold or raining this weekend I could paint in the kitchen with the airbrush !!!!!!!! Surprise Her kindness has pushed me over the edge, so I would like to jump in with a 1/48 Testers Ryan PT-20 Trainer in NMF fuse with yellow wings.

Randy So many to build.......So little time

not the entire set up, just the airbrush, compressor, and paint. (And model of course!). NO fancy spray booth needed, a cardboard box does just fine. Remember to turn the bathroom fan on too, if you have one. As long as you arent spraying lacquers, you should be good to go!

Vetteman,  I'll add you to the list.  Welcome aboard!  Woohoo!

Guys, I switched to acrylics paints a long time ago.  Painting inside the house is not an issue as there are no noxious fumes and as long as I don't make a mess everywhere the wife never knows.  Acrylics also don't have issues with humidity and they dry quickly which helps when you are doing speed builds like this.  You just have make sure you wash all the greasy fingerprints off before you paint and be careful when you pull any masking off.

It is almost 11pm here but I am heading down to my bench to get started on my build.  Pics at midnight!  PropellerPropellerPropeller

Oh, and I decided my little La 5 is too lame so I am adding a 1/72 Italeri M20 armoured car as well!  PropellerPropellerPropeller

LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!!!  Toast

I don't know if I'd go that far. I've had good luck with them since I made the switch. But heat & "lack of humidity" will play havoc with them, I seem to remember DoogsATX - in Texas - having issues with them drying in the air while on their way to the model in question, getting really pebbly. Luckily neither of us suffer from a lack of humidity. Big Smile

(BTW, hello from the other coast!!)

Vance, actually, we do get pretty dry here in the BC interior during the summer but I also paint in the basement so it is more humid down there.  I find adding a few drops of Tamiya thinner helps to keep the tip dry issue at bay.

Well, stayed up later than I planned to so I was too tired to post images of my start.

The La 5 is a bagged kit from a friend so no box art.  I futured the canopy and assembled the cockpit.  Hope to start painting after running some errands this morning.

The M20 is a nice little kit.  It has the fast assembly option for wargammers but I won't cheat!  Stick out tongue  The plastic is pretty soft on this kit, almost like vinyl.  Same thing, hope to get some paint on it after errands this morning.

Dave - you're doing a twofer? Ballsy! Cool

Thinking may schedule may be such that I start in tonight (rather than tomorrow) and finish up Saturday. Either way, will throw up some pre-pics before the glue starts flowing. Yes

Dave,

Sorry for the delay in declaring a build, but I still haven't decided....my weekend schedule is going to be hectic at best.  Probably won't get started until Saturday evening, finish (at least that's the plan) Monday evening.  Next weekend is out, so it's either this or nothing.

Drying time is not the issue with humidity for me and my airbrush. It is the buildup of moisture in the compresor and "spitting" of said mosture during the airbrushing that is. Yesterday when I airbrushed using MM Acryls and their thinner, it had a noticible odor, no more or less offensive than any enamels I use.  I will continue to use both types of paints, but I much prefer enamels just for reasons like no need for extra surface prep and care in masking removal. Better going on, more resistant to coming off. Wink Airbrushing in the bathrooms here is out due to lighting and space factors. So weather will be my big deciding factor on a go/no go for this weekend.

To late to join? (Didn't know until today if I was moving this weekend or not)

Can build either an academy 1/72 Helldiver or Tamiya Porsche King Tiger (with metal barrel and workable tracks)

Quick update.  I'm 23 hours in and I am not as far along as I would like to be.  Feel like crap tonight and having a hard time getting motivated.  Anyway, here is where I am at.  Hope to get a couple more hours in tonight before bed.

The La 5. major assembly complete.  engine is painted and ready to go on with the front cowl.  Need to mask windows and fill some seams before I can paint.

The M20 is looking more positive.  Just have to add the suspension and wheels and touch up the paint before adding the fiddly bits.

Dave, thanks!

Ok going to go with the Academy SB2C Helldiver. Personally I would prefer the tiger But have to go house hunting tomorrow (Saturday) morning and since I would have to do the zim on the tiger I figure not enough time (considering the time for workable tracks as well not gonna happen)  :(

Will put some pics up soon

Andrew, looking forward to that build as it is in my stash.  I'll update the front page.

I'm calling it a night.  Spent the last couple of hours working on just the La 5 and it is pretty much ready for paint in the morning. Still got a gap under the canopy but I'll fix that in the morning.

Alright, obviously I'm still at work today but I can upload by box / sprue shots right!

There she is - the classic box & slightly curled decal sheets - I'm crossing my fingers & hoping I can use the Swiss crosses. I'll have to do a test with something off of the RAF sheet.

And the parts / sprue. The shapes look good. Undercarriage & cockpit are a wash though, I will definitely be posing this wheels-up & canopy painted over from the inside. Looking for ward to starting tonight!

Okay, here's the box...

IMG_0214.jpg

And here's the parts...

IMG_0214.jpg

Form the "15th anniversary" sticker, you can tell this thing was put out a while ago, since the original Macross series came out in Japan back in '81.

My plan is to paint it up in the two-tone gray paint scheme with orange-red and black trim seen in Macross Plus.  The "decals" that come with the kit are actually foil stickers, I'll be painting the insignia on it ( relatively easy, since Bandai was kind enough to include the locations in recessed outlines ).

I'll actually start working on it this evening after I get my son over here for visitation.  He's talking about joining us and building either the Spirit of St. Louis or Earhart's Electra.

Alright!  Good to see others breaking sprue.  Propeller

I got the paint on the La 5 this morning.  I have since given it a coat of future and will let that dry while I work on the M20 some more.

Only 12 hours to go for me!  Whistling

Hi Everyone:

I've decided to go with the 1/48 Fb Bearcat ... we're having off and on showers and the humidity is sky high, so painting would be a problem ...

Here's a photo of the box and bagged kit ... I'm going to start Saturday night right around 9 PM and hope to be finished up by Monday night at 8:59 PM ...

Everyone, have a great and hectic weekend ...
