I think he has built a few.  I seem to remember my Sister telling me that on the phone once.  I think that would be cool.  I know how much working with models has helped me get some manual dexterity back after my aneurysm.  It might help him a bit too.  At the very least, it would give him something to do while he recuperates.  He’s liable to be bedridden for quite some time.  I am seriously thinking of selling off some of my collection to help them out.  I’ll talk to my sister and see if she would like that.

I have a 1/32 F86, but off hand, I don’t remember which one.  I always thought that the ESCI was meaner looking too.  Although the Monogram was the only one I could get my hands on as a kid. Lol.  Oh and all of my fuzzy balls of stupid are accounted for. So you must have a local felinoid denizen, stalking your kits.  Lol  I wouldn’t have the ambition or remaining skill to do a modification like that.  I hate putty and putty hates me. Lol

It was nothing Rich, I donated just one haircut.

I don't know if Nick builds kits, but if he does, I'd be happy to donate a kit.

That Escii is a nice rendition of the Sabre. I like the triangular intake, it gives

the Sabre a mean look. Your details are looking very good.

I want to use the Esci or Monogram intakes as templates for my 1/32

kits, not because they are the most accurate, but it gives the Sabre a

real nice aggressive look. I have a big 1/32 Hasegawa with a round intake,

and unfortunately, I think one of Rich's cats paid me a visit and crashed it

on the floor!...lol....

I want to re-putty the intake to look more like the Esci.

LOL...thought it was your cat man.......

I hear you Rich, when you start comparing hospital bills to kits it becomes overwhelming......

I don't know, it would be nice to see him gravitate to this hobby during his recuperation, it

might help him as it has you.

Keep us posted, he might have something in mind not in your stash.

Berny pulled a guy outa' the mud in Vietnam, and he helped a guy survive.

I saw that Berny always tried to give more than he took. A lot of guys here

are like that.

I'm no hero, I'm not risking my life here like Berny, or Ken's dad did to save others,

but if there is a small thing I can do to help Nick or Susan, that is fine with me.

Maybe a kit or so, let me know.

Hey, straight up, I never thought I would see times so tough as they are now.

It was always just a story my folks told me.

I am sorry to say that I have made little to no progress on any of my hopeful builds.  Time and energy haven't aligned lately.  Oh well, ther is always tonight!

Well.  I got a bit done today.  The canopy sections are on, ans masked.  The entire plane has gotten it's first coat of chrome silver, over a gray primer and some black detail lining to pre-shade the recessed panel lines.  It's hard to see the detail in the photos because the flash tends to wash everything out.  The next coat will be a thinned coat of aircraft aluminum.   I see the checkered flag in sight on this one finally.  Here's the latest images.

This is pre paint.  You can see some of the panel detailing.  I was trying for a non uniform look.  I let my lovely and talented Daughter do the detailing, once I showed her how.  She did a great job.

Here's a side view pre-paint.

And the bottom panels..

Post paint.  The paint on this side went on a bit thicker than intended, but once dry, it should flatten out.  I might need to go over the panel lines with a semi sharp scribing tool to renew the detail.

Yeh, the same thing happened on the bottom.  I have a feeling, I may need to do a lot of cleaning and sanding with this one.

Same issue on this side.  I'll wait and see how it dries before I panic...

This shows the landing gear doors and air brakes.  That's it for tonight folks.

It strikes me that the F-86's horizontal tail section is incredibly tiny in comparison to the rest of the aircraft.

I've always thought so too.  The whole series of Sabres relied on a very brute force approach to speed, and some extent maneuverability. So I guess the rear control surfaces weren't all that important. lol...

The shiny chrome finish actually settled down pretty good.  Tomorrow I will get to the final finish and assembly.  Then Detailing and Decals on Tuesday,a nd finish up gloss-cote on Wednesday.  Then she is done and it's time to move onto the next project.... Whatever that ends up being....

If I remember correctly, the whole stab moved, not just the elevators.  The B-52 does that.

Yeah, lessons learned from the Bell-X1. Still, when compared to other aircraft, even of the same era. Its quite small.

The Sabre is still looking nice and shiny, Rich.  Keep up the good work.  Yes

I've made some progress on the TF-102 and posted pics on the Veteran's GB this time.  I'm working the TF on both Berny's GB and the Vet's GB.  See p. 19 of the Vet's build - didn't want to have to post a duplicate here.

Thanks, Buzz

Maybe it's a North American thing:

Another thing I noticed is that Esci's vertical is a few thou' smaller than the Monogram version, and the stabs are definitely smaller than Monogram.

That, coupled with the fish-eye effect make Rich's tail section look small.

I hope Rich doesn' take offense to someone saying that....lol....

here's Mick Evans' rendition of the F-84G:

and a shot of the later F-84F's:

You can't miss the sail on the tail of that bird! -I can smell 'chrome' just looking at that beauty!

I heard someone on the MC say that the Sabre had a relatively large wing surface, so while it wasn't as maneuverable as the MIG-15, it was unstable enough to dog-fight the 15, if you call radar controlled kills at half a mile a 'dogfight,' that is.

Pretty jet, in any case:

Shishh, those rear stabs are tiny Scorpio.....

I forgot:

The Monogram 1/48 F-86's horizontal stab is a full 1" at the root, and Esci's is only 31/32. Esci's is also shorter by a full 1/16' shorter, as measured center-of-root to center-of-tip.

So that makes a small stab, even smaller,,,,,,Brutay......

Yeh Dom.  They do look skinny.  The F84 series is an odd one.  They really should have all had a different model number since they are very different from one another.  I have the exhaust cone on now on the Sabre.  Now I am going to do the yellow striping.  I am thinking of using chrome yellow, or insignia yellow.  I just haven't decided which yet.  I have to mask off the entire rest of the plane first though, including the landing gear bays and air breaks.  Then it's time to put on all the little doors and landing gear bits, then decal and one final glosscote layer.

Rich;

My first best guess is Insignia yellow......

It tends to the red side of the Chroma chart...a bit orange in hue....

Chromate tends to the blue side.....a bit green in hue.....

Most of the photo samples and box tops I've seen look a slight bit on the orange side.

In Flanders Field

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae

Today in Austalia and New Zealand we celebrate ANZAC day. We remember those who have fallen.

Rich & Scorpio;

Vera died two weeks ago.

she was an ardent antilstalinist, and there were three, yes, three,

gatherings. One was for the masses. One was for the family.

One was for close friends. As you know, this is what always happens.

I missed a gathering two weeks ago, so spit on me commrades!?!?!

They burned her to ashes just last week. Friends to gather this weekend.

I mentioned to Rich in the PM's she was going to die of cancer.

She was adamant that she was not going to pass.

She died, even without God's permission!

She hated Stalin even more than my bald-spot.

I can't keep up.....dropping like flies.....

Stalin proactively associated bayonets with trouser seams.

She is gone, we live, Horilka! (vodka)

Sorry Rich if I didn't mention it.

I know at least part of what you're going though, I lost my surviving grandpa and my favorite uncle last year. It's not quite the same though since both were in their 80s and had lived a long and full life. I hate to see anyone die young. My sympathies with you and the family Dom.

Well, the Sabre gave me a bit of bother today.  Not actually the kit.  I masked her and put on the insignia Yellow using a used Badger 105 that I got for small change on eBay a while back.  This was my first time using this brush, and I didn't notice until it was too late, that there was a significant overspray that got on the wings, so I had to let everything dry, then remask and reshoot most of the silver.   I will take off the masking tomorrow and see how it came out.  Hopefully I won't have any more paint issues.  I'll post images when I have the energy and this migraine goes away.

Well, here's some images.

Here it is with the initial body chrome done.

Wings masked and painted.  You can sort of see some of the overspray

It's easier to see the overspray in this one.

This is after putting a new coat of chrome on the wings.  Just a little touch up needed on the yellow.

And lastly, a side view of the pretty much completed paint job.  I plan on giving it a good buffing to bring out more shine in the chrome and even it out a bit.   Now assembly of the little remaining bits can be done.

Well.  Thanks to my Wife's dumb cat, I had to strip down the entire plane and start painting again from scratch.  I was removing some paint from inside the airbrake slots, and her cat jumped up on my work bench wanting to be patted.  In the process, she managed to get ELO (Easy Lift Off) all over the place, including the nicely dried Sabre.  It's amazing how fast that stuff will take off enamel.  I just hope it doesn't ruin the plastic.  This is an older kit, and the plastic is a bit brittle.  I am going to have to let it dry and rinse it a few times, so I won't be able to repaint it for a few days.  I might start another kit while I am waiting.  Maybe my 1/32 Sabre...Hmmm.

Anyone want a soon to be shaved slightly  used cat? lol
